Sushi Hand Rolls
www.brenthofacker.com
Hand-roll party during our family Zoom: marinated tuna with sushi rice, cucumber, avocado, and scallions wrapped up in nori shells.
I was working to meet a deadline and decided to grab sushi from the supermarket. It was delicious, but I kinda didn’t expect all this plastic waste... It shouldn’t surprise me at this point but still.

Spicy Marinated Pork Belly Hand Rolls
Ine, 4672 York Blvd, Los Angeles (Highland Park), CA 90041
Ine calls itself a fusion Japanese bistro…the menu didn’t have much fusion but they do justice to the fresh, seasonal ingredients. They keep the flavors simple but thoughtful. From what I could tell, portions are smaller. The menu doesn’t have too many items, but they seem to take a quality over quantity approach.
For lunch, they had appetizers (e.g., edamame, oysters), salads, entrees (noodles, gyudon), desserts, and beverages.
Ine noodle ($14): a light homemade dashi, sea bream broth, topped with sweet soy-braised tofu skin, three fishballs, scallion, and finely shredded mushrooms. The wheat noodles were thin, firm, and straight. The broth wasn’t fishy. The broth had delicate flavors. I enjoyed the thin sheets of braised tofu skin. The fishballs were dense and chewy. They tasted like a lot of fishballs that I’ve had. I was expecting something more delicate. The elements were assembled and presented with care. It felt healthy and nourishing…something to be savored. It was small though. There is an option to add sea bream, but I’m sure the piece of fish would be small.
Genmai ice cream ($9): roasted brown rice ice cream, soy salt, brown rice flakes, wood sorrel, sour cherry reduction on the side. The ice cream was rich and dense. The brown rice flavor of the ice cream wasn’t that strong but the brown rice flakes added texture and lots of flavor. The cherry reduction had a tanginess that I enjoyed.
The restaurant is beautiful – white walls, framed art prints, dark wood tables, counter seating, tables around the sides. It has a Japanese look that’s minimal and elegant but still warm and cozy.

Wabi Nori
First, check out my Ride & Review video HERE: Wabi Nori is a new sushi hand roll place that just opened near us on the Lower East Side. They have a nice $10 cocktail happy hour, which also offers some reduced price snacks as well. We tried the karaage chicken, the fried calamari, and the soft shell crab. All of these were nice, but I think we liked the chicken and crab the best. They have…
