HapiMari
Happy Marriage aka HapiMari is a 2016 Jdrama (I just googled it and it was from a Mangaaaaa!! Any...). This is about a marriage contract that you may thought have started randomly, but it isn't. It is may also be the typical poor girl marries a rich man to pay their debts then the man has a complicated family. Well, it is but the complicated family is waaaay more complicated than what you can expect. SPOILERS ARE UP AHEAD.
So for our characters, let me start with Chiwa. Takanashi Chiwa, the girl who had no choice but to say yes to Hokuto's offer of marriage. But not at first, there were a few asking made before the yes was given. Next would be, Hokuto. Mamiya Hokuto, the most handsome bachelor according to the drama. The illegitimate son of the first son of the Mamiya Household. Family tree is a bit complicated but I'll share it later. (hopefully I don't forget). These two are the main cast, but I would include Yagami Yuu as well, he is the part-timer at Chiwa's work. Shirata Misaki is the ex-girlfriend of Hokuto. Souma is the ever loyal secretary of Hokuto. These are the names that I'll be mentioning below.
So I have fallen into the hole known as Kdramas or Asian drama. (I’m always looking for recommendations if anyone has any!) But I thought I’d maybe post my thoughts on the ones I’d watched.
So the first ones I watched were on Netflix:
Cinderella and the Four Knights-Cinderella story where a girl ends up living in a house with three men (who happen to be cousins to each other) following a fake relationship with one of them. 7/10- I just hated the 2nd leads, especially the girl. She whined so much. Really liked the lead girl and the push-pull of the main relationship. And the other two “knights” were my favorite. First Kdrama ever so little did I realize how many tropes were in this one.
Because this is my first life Man and woman enter a contract marriage and naturally, fall for each other. It also follows the woman’s two best friends and their relationships. 10/10 The three women in this are well rounded and understandable characters. Even the side characters are enjoyable, I never felt like there were too many plots and the story kept moving along in an enjoyable way. Also sucker punched me with the feminism. I was fully in this one and it was only my second drama to watch. I am a sucker for fake marriage so this one was just so great for me. Honestly, I loved all the characters in this one, which (as I know now) is a rarity.
Love 020- Falling in an online MMORPG and then in real life, 9/10 My first Chinese Drama and as a girl who games married to a computer programmer who likes to game with me, this struck all the chords with me. I loved the whole main couples journey. Also she totally trusted him and that makes me SUPER HAPPY! My only issue is that there’s a problematic thing with one of the side men. He sort of tries to catfish the main girl (only to be with her in real life) and thinks she’s cheating on him (cause their in game romance means something IRL?? Even though it was never discussed) So he tries to ruin stuff for the main female, until he finds out then truth. Then, he’s a jerk to the girl. The guy never really gets in trouble for trying to ruin the main character's life and that frustrates me.
Accidentally in Love 2nd Chinese drama Secret Rich Girl and Pop star fall in love while fighting. The secondary male character is just...*chef’s kiss* 8/10 First case of 2nd lead syndrome. But I actually loved this whole thing. I love a good bickering couple, although the ending felt a bit weird. All the rest of this, especially the main couples slow slide into love was so good.
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon Girl with strength super powers catches a serial killer and falls in love...but not with her crush. First drama I watched because everyone was recommending it online. 9/10 I really liked most of this, but I didn't the second lead's treatment of women kind of in general. But I loved the romance and found it fairly sweet. Warning: there is some weird fake gay thing going on that I never fully understood.
Following that I moved to Amazon Prime and watched
HapiMari (Happy Marriage) Jdrama-Marriage of convenience, Girl marries guy to clear her dad’s debts, guy marries girl to inherit the family business. 7/10 I really liked the idea of this and the start of it was good and very sexy. When he backs her into that wall…*fans self*, but once again, the ending just feels weirdly rushed after nothing happening for a few episodes.
I’m watching hapi mari the serial and I love it 😍 the sasusaku stan in myself just wants a sasusaku serial 💕 with actors maybe in a modern day AU 🤷🏻♀️ but Dean Fujioka gives me so much Sasuke feels 😂 he’s so lowkey and sassy xD I can’t take it. I’d love to see sasusaku dynamics as newly weds & more of sasuke teasing his wife 😭🤩
I love you. I don’t want to part with you. I don’t want to open the door ever again just to find you gone.
I really liked this drama, it was cute, funny, and frustrating; the typical shoujo combination. Except this drama was adapted from a manga, which was not shoujo, but instead a josei manga. I haven’t read the manga, but this drama adaption was very cute. I’m a sucker for arranged/forced marriages turned good.
