Shen Yuan as the Protagonist of a Choose Your Own Adventure Harem Drama

Born to merchants, Shen Yuan is sold to the Emperor’s palace as a Eunuch when his family falls upon hard times. When he arrives, he’s evaluated and, found to be quite attractive, instead becomes a one of His Majesty’s few male concubines.

Due to lacking any political backing, Shen Yuan is assigned the lowest rank and is given the courtesy name of Adaptable Attendant Zhusun. Highly educated but lacking any training in cultivation, Shen Yuan is unable to protect himself in the Emperor’s harem of vicious beauties. If he wants to survive, he must claw, scheme and betray his way into security, favor, and power. Whether he’ll find love is another question entirely.

Main Love Interests:

Throughout the entire playthrough Shen Yuan will accumulate Ambition Points and Heart Points. These are gained by developing relationship with the two main love interests, helping the love interest with their goals and removing romantic competition. The amount of Ambition and Heart points will help determine what ending Shen Yuan will achieve.

Luo Bingge

Heavenly Demon Emperor of the three realms, his reign is unstable and full of strife, but has led to immense military victories never before achieved by past rulers. His goal is to unite the realms in hopes of finally achieving peace. He is cold and dismissive even to his concubines but especially to Shen Yuan, who looks like the Advisor who tormented and tried to have him killed as a child.

Shen Yuan assists Bingge by exposing schemers, helping cull rebellions, and providing him with valuable allies.

To gain Bingge’s favor, Shen Yuan must prove he is different in every way from Shen Qingqiu. Luo Bingge must believe that Shen Yuan is akin to a resourceful, tender-hearted, and utterly devoted maiden. He will never be able to trust Shen Yuan otherwise.

Luo Bingmei

The Prince of Qing, tasked with guarding what remains of Cang Qiong Mountain and helping conquer the empire, burns with jealousy at his brother: the Emperor. His goal is to take the throne by destabilizing his brother’s reign further, winning over the court by any means necessary and killing or imprisoning his brother. He’s paranoid, certain that it’s only a matter of time before his brother disposes of him and for good reason. He trusts no one but puts up a facade that’s charming and somewhat emotional.

Shen Yuan helps Bingmei by distracting/sabotaging Bingge, spying and removing allies from the Emperor’s side.

To develop a romantic relationship with Bingmei, Shen Yuan must prove his loyalty. Luo Bingmei knows Shen Yuan can be cunning and cruel, and thus will lose trust in him should Shen Yuan pretend to be otherwise.

Introductory Phase:

The Introductory Phase will allow Shen Yuan to gain favor with different concubines and gain skill points. At the end of this phase, the player will tally their points, which will indicate which plotline to start on.

Chapter 1: The Selection

Shen Yuan has to pass rigorous testing before he can step into the palace. Fifth Advisor Qi Qingqi is the one who picked Shen Yuan from the selection of the Eunuchs, and decided to oversee his interview for the Harem as well.

He’s asked a series of questions. Why his family sent him to the palace? What are Shen Yuans ambitions? She asks about his travels with his family, as they’re merchants, asking about where he’s been. She asks about Shen Yuans talents, if Shen Yuan knows how to read and write, whether Shen Yuan has any skill in spiritual or physical cultivation and, if so, how developed is he? She asks about his connections, if he knows anyone in the palace, if they’d be willing to vouch for him?

Being caught out in a lie will result in Shen Yuan’s torture and death.

Chapter 2: Entering the Palace

He finally enters the palace and is brought to the Attendant Training Hall. 27 new Attendants were chosen, and there are only 6 rooms available. Shen Yuan has to choose who to share a room with:

Devoted Attendant Chahua

As they’re the only two new male concubines, Attendant Chahua seems to want to room with Shen Yuan. Shen Yuan isn’t so sure that’s a good idea. Attendant Chahua is a fierce demon who’s escaped from the Abyss and is all alone in the world. He’s much stronger than Shen Yuan and knows it. He wants something for himself, and is determined to win the Emperor’s love and favor.

He’s willing to work with and protect Shen Yuan but only so long as he accepts his inferiority and submits himself to Attendant Chahua. Shen Yuan can bite his lip and bear with it so long as the relationship is beneficial to him (Resilience Points). He can also outright refuse, and gain Attendant Chahua’s ire (Tenacity Points).

No matter what path Shen Yuan chooses, Attendant Chahua will eventually be promoted to the Consort of Worthiness when the previous falls ill and dies. Shen Yuan can be trusted or hated by Attendant Chahua.

Refined Attendant Lanhua

A senior, noble daughter who’s tasked with training the new attendants. When her family’s territory was lost in one of Luo Bingge’s acquisitions, Attendant Lanhua was taken into the palace to work for ten years.

One day, Shen Yuan lingers after their sewing lesson and hears his instructor considering putting Attendant Lanhua up for promotion, as she’s caught the fleeting interest of the Emperor. Shen Yuan knows all she wants is to quietly do her work and survive until her servitude finishes. Shen Yuan can support her in that wish (Prestige Points), or he can convince their instructor to promote her (Strategy Points).

If the instructor decides to suggest Attendant Lanhua’s promotion, she will become the Lady of the Wise Crane and fall pregnant. If she doesn’t, she will quietly fade into the background and return to her family in a few years.

Resilient Attendant Yinxing

A senior, male concubine who is tasked with training the new attendants. He seems pleasant, and compliments Shen Yuan’s handsomeness.

The Attendants are responsible for everything that requires tending to, from the cooking to the laundry and the cleaning. Each Attendant is assigned a list of tasks in the morning, to be done before lessons. Yinxing is very helpful in showing Shen Yuan the ropes. He opens up about his stay in the palace. How being picked as a concubine was a dream come true, even if he never managed to catch his majesty’s eye. The next day Attendant Yinxing asks Shen Yuan if he’d be willing to take one of his morning duties, as the Instructors need his help with something. The chores in question are: Carrying and heating water for the bathhouse or Scrubbing the Instruction Hall.

Attendant Yinxing gifts him a painted silk fan in return for his help. This is revealed to be an act of sabotage, as the Emperor so loathes folding fans that he’s banned them from the Palace. The Consort of Preciousness catches Shen Yuan with the fan and scars his face with boiling hot tea. He’s sent to serve at the Cold Palace until the end of his (considerably short) life.

Proud Attendant Meihua

A young maiden who enters the palace already jaded. She’s much smaller and plainer compared the other attendants, who treat her poorly. She distains Shen Yuan upon meeting.

Shen Yuan tries to make conversation and she ignores him completely. Shen Yuan tries to protect her from the other Attendants but she berates him. Due to his proximity to her, he also ends up a target of the other attendants. He can suffer alone (Resilience Points) or keep trying to befriend her (Tenacity Points).

The harassment gets to the point where Shen Yuan is tied, gagged and locked in a chest where air is slowly running out. If Attendant Meihua becomes fond enough of Shen Yuan, she catch the other attendants trapping him and reveal her not inconsiderable skill in cultivation to open the chest. If she doesn’t, Shen Yuan will be forced to think quickly and save himself. When he becomes a higher ranking concubine, Attendant Meihua will be assigned to his palace.

Fortuitous Attendant Mudan

A beauty beyond comparison in the Attendant ranks, this sister will make it far! She supposedly comes from a well of family, yet for some reason has entered as an Attendant.

Living with Attendant Mudan is somewhat uncomfortable. She’s incredibly jumpy and quite a bit awkward. She explains that she was confined to her family’s estate for the majority of her life, and that she ran away to join the Harem. She knows her family must be looking for her. Shen Yuan can send a letter to them telling them where she is, or he can keep the information to himself.

But apparently not all is what she seems. After weeks of rooming with Attendant Mudan, Shen Yuan alerts the guards that she’s gone missing! An investigation is started, and Shen Yuan, as her roommate, is under suspicion. They find a skinned body at the bottom of the well, and discover it actually belonged to Shen Yuan! The skinner demon is put to death by being burned alive.

Immortal Attendant Juhua

A lady cultivator who, lacking connections, entered the palace as an attendant. She has hopes of climbing the ranks of the harem and bringing honor to her family.

One night, Shen Yuan catches an Unknown Eunuch leaving a letter for Attendant Juhua, which reveals her as a spy for a group of rebelling cultivators. Shen Yuan can either gather proof and present it to a Palace Official (Prestige Points) or he can steal the note and save it for a later time (Strategy Points).

Turning Attendant Juhua in will result in her torture and hanging. Stealing the note will give him future opportunities to blackmail Attendant Juhua.

Been watching Empresses in the Palace, or, The Legend of Zhen Huan (后宫·甄嬛传; Hòu Gōng · Zhēn Huán Chuán) and really enjoying it. An Lingrong is my fave. She's so cute and pretty, and I love watching her get slowly corrupted by harem politics and pressures, constantly finding ways in which she can fight to stay ahead. She's a babygirl. She's a bitch. She's pure of heart. She's rotten to the core. She's naïve and devoted. She's solipsistic and conniving. She's perfect.

Look, maybe I've just watched way too many harem dramas but I have an idea for a project set in ATLA-verse that just won't leave my mind. I need a palace drama set in the fire nation palace about one of the previous fire lord's and things that went down during his reign. I need his children to all be screwing each other over in order to get the throne (they could be full siblings or half siblings). I need political intrigues, assassination attempts, scheming advisors, forbidden romance, rags to riches storyline. Basically all the stuff you'd see in a typical palace drama + dragons and firebending. I'm going for magnificent century + house of the dragon/game of thrones + road to empress + avatar the last airbender (duh) vibes. Based on what kind of story you want to tell, you could have the avatar be the protagonist or one of the main characters or a side character or a minor character or someone who's only mentioned but never seen. Like does anyone else see the vision or have I gone crazy?

Had to look up the definition of concubine cause I didn't want to accidentally misuse the word and I found out about consorts and thought that they (as in the Prowl family and Deepstrider) would work better as consorts because they're higher ranking but at the same time concubines were expected to bear children, concubines could actually become consorts if they gave birth to a boy

I wouldn't mind taking them all as wives but the consort/concubine thing came up in my mind first so maybe they're concubines then consorts 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 wives, or maybe Prowl would be the wife while the others are consorts considering wives get political/ruling power while consorts have symbolic power

Look, I love some silly intrigue drama, okay? Deepstrider maybe isn't initially part of the weird trio, but he's eventually adopted into it. Slowly. Prowl's the only one who like actually knows him, which isn't weird for Delta and Tangent, but still. Prowl doesn't hate him, which automatically bumps him up the list.

.. they've got bigger problems anyways. I don't know how something like this could happen, but mm. I'll be honest I can't stop thinking about silly CN harem drama novels. They're so bad and they fascinate me. Making Prowl your first wife implies giving him control over the household, which may be more than you want to do if you uh.. (cough) abducted him. Head consort might work for a temporary fancy title.. or try anyway. You said you're "here for a fun time, not a long time" yourself.

Concubines can be bought, gifts, political leverage.. those, the more important they or their connections are, the party organizing it might argue they deserve a distinguished ranking or placement as a consort instead. But since these guys might not have too much importance (anymore), it really is up to their theoretical duties and your whim as to what rank they are.

Honestly, maybe you're degenerate enough to not give them any sort of status until you've knocked them all up for the first time. It should distract them briefly, and maybe even Prowl works up from concubine. Have you considered being an even weirder individual with more 'spouses' than your Cybertronian spouses. r they just your recent indulgence. They'll live much longer than most of them. And bond more. Shame about the violence.

Trying to kill you and getting rewarded with slapstick scenarios might give Prowl an aneurysm. His resources are limited, but he's still a military strategist, and every failure just makes him loom more. He doesn't like doing his dirty work himself, but enough frustration, and your 'wife' might try to kill you with his bare hands.

Blocking off or plugging Prowl's spike because he's just an incubator and doesn't need it.. honestly, he doesn't really care. You could have it removed, broken into a spike-pussy, use it like a handle or invert it, force it to get hard, and simultaneously not allow it to pressurize outwards. Constantly walking around, filled with his own spike..

Primus.. body mod stuff. Putting blocks on their mods that could hurt you, leaving them with blunt servos and dead weight inbuilt weapons. But also making them 'sexier' by uncovering their pouches or outright removing their array panels. Maybe putting in an override so you can open them whenever..

I'll be honest, I just like plugs and doing weird shit with interface arrays. Slotting a vibrating plug that's all pretty and functional into his spike housing when you make him your official wife. He can clench on it, occasionally drip the weakest little stream of transfluid, but it's fixed into place so he can't push it out. Hrngh. Little. Exhibitionism moment because that's (one of) his symbol of being a wife, y’know? He's allowed- or required to show it off.

That's annoying enough, trying to balance his image with what they are allowed to wear and reference the circumstances he's absorbed where different standards are acceptable. The actual plug doesn't bother him too much- other than the looks. Maybe there's a little o-ring or d-ring set into it where you could clip it to something. It's appeareance represents you or your establishment in one way or another.

The issue is when you turn it on. Do you use it like a clicker, a reward? A summoning bell? Do you press on it when you want him to pay attention to something, or do you give him the vibrations as a distraction? It's humiliating and he's learning to suppress his reaction to it, but just.. leaving it on while he's stranding next to you all nice and official like- like he would've as the autobot tactical commander, the SIC.

Fuck.. doing practically the opposite to Deepstrider's spike- because it's so pretty. Keeping his spike permanently hard and inflated so you can look at it and play with it properly. Kinda just turning him into a walking dildo. I kinda think they all deserve some kinda piercing that you can latch a leash onto. Handful of chains leading to spikes and valves.

Having Deepstrider or something at your feet instead.. not a really politically advantageous match. He's neurotic and intelligent and obviously ill. But his forge does its job, and he's the one allowed to stay overnight with you- the others only if they're absolutely exhausted.

It's because he's the least likely to dig his way through your alien chassis with whatever he can find, his bare servos, his denta. If you push him far enough, stress him out enough, that'll change, though. He's not very tolerant or sociable when he's mid-carriage. If you fuck up then, Deepstrider might not feel too bad. Probably a concubine initially who earns consort status for his fertility. Any rises in rank or a promotion after that is probably pressured by a white painted hand on your shoulder.

Tangent is just enough of an aft under the pleasant face he puts on to be tolerable to take care of, but not the favorite. He's coping by taking it too seriously, so he's probably gonna go around doing whatever Prowl asks him to do between actually playing concubine/consort. He'll be your set piece, sure. Might encourage you to sleep with him when he's bored, but as much as he might seem like a decent mech to rant to, he's pretty much unsympathetic more than less.

Deltashock is your handsome consort- shiny wings and steady servos. She's not a wife because no one is pushing for it, probably only this far for her even voice and ability to nod and look like she's interested. She's not exactly in the position to fill her normal domme angle, not in a way that isn't strictly regulated and tense enough to kill her appetite. Most likely to frag other people, honestly. She doesn't have a huge interface drive, but she knows how to take advantage of what she has. It's anywhere from touching the rest of your harem without asking to tempting your friends, visitors, to come into her little boudoir.

What are you gonna do to punish her? Demote her? Take away her Prowl privileges? She knows you're too fascinated with her to really hurt her. Combined.. They're all really hot and really awful. To make it work without frustrating murder plots.. gotta have a big alt universe where it's vaguely normalized, and then give them things to do they actually like. Or your harem will band together, quarter up your body, play mournful, and dip before anyone can move them to another location.

Getting Prowl to willingly marry you is a process, and you gotta have some benefit, even if it's just a friend of yours he might find useful. Marrying his sparklings.. you gotta play that carefully. If you take them all into your household at the same time, maybe you could try to convince him consorts get treated better than vassals or what are technically bastard children. Just try to dodge the 'going to obligated to frag them stupid and knock them up' part in conversation.

Woe, terrible wife drama be upon ye. Deepstrider's charge flares are probably being ignored or handled by another concubine or consort. Maybe even your wife, if he's lucky. Prowl isn't supposed to be sharing a berth with you- for very good reasons, so he just recharges with everyone else.

Wrote this on and off all day. Tired. The quality isn't 100% but I promise I thought about it so hard.

I want Prowl so bad it's merely rubbing off on all of you. /lh

My Hero Harem Academia

 - Watching ruyi’s royal love in the palace and My Hero Academia resulted in me organizing 1a into harem ranks? because reasons I guess....my ranks may be off, I don’t have them memorized and just found a list. This is for fun, plus who doesn’t love coming up with totally random lists.

Emperor - Izuku Midoriya

Empress - Momo Yaorarozu - highest ranked/responsible for managing the harem -  Huánghòu

Imperial Noble Consort  (Huáng Guìfēi)    - Shoto Todoroki - often the most loved of the emperor

- several would be higher ranked but there weren’t enough spaces, as according to the list there is a limited number of certain ranks...

As I was doing this I came up with the idea that the whole class had been binge watching harem dramas, and Mina and Tooru come up with the idea to assign ranks and Mina’s salty at Bakugou for some reason so names Izuku as Emperor, their is a debate whether Iida or Yaoyarozu should be empress...granted when Mina and Tooru realize that by general hanging out patterns they are lower ranked they both jump at Izuku (who is trying very hard to not be part of this conversation after his appointment to emperor) demanding he love them and raise their ranks, while Iida is pointing out that they gave themselves that rank! They did make Izuku say who he thought embodied the virtues of the 4 consort ranks so he kinda chose those...

Izuku isn’t sure what is happening or why, but even Yaomomo is going along with it so he supposes it’s okay.

Momo is kinda having fun, and maybe a tiny bit happy that she beat Tenya for the Empress spot. She cheekily gets herself a Phoenix Hair stick  that she wears in her ponytail. 

Shouto just sits there lightly smoldering in embarrassed delight as Izuku did not deny his importance to him or his positioning in the rankings.

Iida thinks it’s inappropriate to be ranking themselves, especially for a harem, but can’t help but be chuffed to be so high up.

Ochako is happy she’s high up (this shows that everyone knows she and Izuku are besties), but feels a bit wistful that Shouto is the Imperial Noble Consort.

Bakugou is steaming at being ranked last, after not getting to be emperor, and tries to demand Agni Kai (everyone’s laughing wrong show!) to get further up the rankings. He doesn’t want to care but damn if he’s going to loose! (also, after a while he really begins to think about his ranking, and that, maybe, those extra’s had a point in putting him down here...

Mineta was horrified to be in a harem, a mixed harem at that and then to find out he doesn’t get a rank and is “in the cold palace” has him sulking and Sero’s like, “what did you expect dude, you’re a total creeper?”

Aizawa may come in to tell them lights out and they refer to him as the dowager empress, he’s not unpacking that nope...

Then Monoma hears about it and demands to know why 1b wasn’t included...
