A Sirius Black Fanfiction
Never in her 13-year-old life was Alexandra that scared of getting caught. Walking to the greenhouses under an invisibility cloak with another person was not so easy. She had to remind herself that it was her decision that lead to this.
About a month ago, when she had been helping out in the hospital wing, she had intruded on a sickly looking Remus Lupin, surrounded by his friends James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew and had unintentionally overheard their banter, learning that Lupin was a werewolf. That wasn’t so hard to believe since the boy had come with fresh scars after each full moon. However, she learned of how the other guys wanted to become animagi to help him get through this horrible experience, and that blew her mind. She had always known of them as arrogant young pranksters who liked to bother people, courtesy of her housemate and one of her only friends, Severus Snape. She decided to help them out because she had recently found a book in her family’s dusty but huge library, that guided through the process. It was partly also because she wanted to become an animagus herself. She had not wanted to broadcast this on the Wizarding Wireless Network, so she decided she would acquaint with one of them and just one.
Black was not good company throughout the walk for her. He kept muttering things, leading her to thinking of just running back to the dungeons. He had the time of his life, having snuck out under the cloak many time before. Opposing her plans, Black had decided that the best way to collect mandrakes for the animagi process was to steal from the greenhouses while the rest of the school was in blissful sleep.
After getting into the greenhouses, they took of the invisibility cloak off. They had to admit, the greenhouses looked heavenly in the night. The moonlight scattered by the glass roof bounced off the walls and lit up the plants with a radiant glow. However, their minds weren’t focusing on anything but each other. Staring into each other’s eyes, there was nothing awkward about it. Neither would admit, but they loved looking at each other. Too young to know the power of what they felt, but too old to not admire the other’s features. Soon they had to get to work and split ways, searching for the potted mandrakes.
Alexandra looked around the place. She couldn’t help but be captivated by the Asphodels and Dittany that held a soft luminosity. Her little trance was broken by the sound of a mandrake’s scream that sharply pierced through the silence that had been. She immediately ran towards the source to find Sirius Black trying to shut the mandrake’s cry. He had pulled the leaves but instead came the whole thing, uprooted. She ran to repot the crying plant, but Sirius’s try to shut the mandrake up by closing its mouth added fuel to the fire. She hurriedly repotted the dreaded mandrake as he was shaking his hand, hurt from the bite. She couldn’t even stop to grab some leaves and neither could he, as they ran out the greenhouses and behind the beech tree, taking cover from teachers that didn’t come. She was still looking out for any threats while she whisper-shouted to him, “What the hell were you thinking? Pulling out a mandrake? Do you know how much tro- “
She couldn’t continue as she saw him. He tried to act nonchalant, but she knew better.
She silently healed his hand, thankful for her time in the hospital wing, while he was looking down, embarrassed. She could see that his were slightly calloused and as the moments went on, she couldn’t keep an angry face, and it was just around him. He hated that he couldn’t stop putting her in trouble. Both looked at each other, she in a better mood than him, and she solely plopped down on the ground. She looked up, and he mirrored her actions after placing the cloak in the inside pocket of his jacket.
“That I was going to mess up? I don’t remember so”, He said, feeling sure that he had paid attention to the words she shared.
“No, not that. I was referring to how it was a bad idea to steal from greenhouses from the start. C’mon let’s go back.”
“I always have a plan, don’t worry too much about that.”
“It’s okay. Maybe this night wasn’t meant for us.”
As she was staring at the castle, he whispered so softly that only he could hear himself, “Maybe it was.”
