@lura-valentine made some fantastic lineart and offered to let me render it, which was incredibly sweet (😭) and a lot of fun (🥰). I didn’t bother defining a light source; this was a vibes-only colour experiment because life is already doing the most, and I needed something low-stakes to hyperfocus on. Since this one’s higher fidelity than my usual tiny comfort canvas, I had the opportunity to break the neck ring into proper loon bands and add more white along the leading edge of Kaskel’s wings. What we’re not gonna do is discuss the layer count. I’m pretending I didn’t see it.

It’s not deep. I just needed a break before my brain melted.

Was working on a fic banner for my next Dabihawks, then this happened, and I figured it deserved its own post. I haven’t decided on a team name yet, so the emblem isn’t complete. A bit about it: I rely heavily on the default library brushes Indigo, Syrup, and Elphinstone. That makes Inkbleed absolute chaos for me, but I found myself really drawn to it for this banner and this story. This is also single-layer lineart and single-layer rendered. Why? Because I hate myself, I guess /lh. Actually, it was good practice not to overthink line placement and to let myself accept being messy. Anyway, I’m excited about this story and will trade arc-completion focus with TORIMONO.

@lura-valentine took the heart I made for my TORIMONO banner and gave it cardiac function. Sharing because it’s adorable and perfect and I love it so much. 🥰

First time drawing Dabi. @lura-valentine kindly gave me a red line to help with the hair shape. Absolute lifesaver. Visual hierarchy was a bit of a challenge, and I am surprised to say this, but Hawks’ hair is basically a cheat code for this style. He’s got a lot of open “hair” and is trying to map that to natural follicle patterns, and the behavior of black dye (which is almost always blue or violet-based, unlike natural black hair) was a bit of a personal hell for me. Still working on a single layer with inkbleed to match my Hawks in the same style. It continues to be a menace, but it turned out well enough that I can use it for the AU banner. Maybe one of these days I’ll try to tackle Kas this way. It’s been great for line confidence and visual hierarchy.

I don’t usually post my art, but I’ve been making Kas emotes for Discord and... then this happened. So, here’s chibi Kas, featuring his emotional support loon plush. Since I fractured my fifth metacarpal in three places (plus a few tiny wrist bones), I’ve been trying to let myself draw without overthinking linework or lighting. It’s about the flow and retraining my hand to let go of the death grip and not press like the iPad has the gravitational pull of a small star. So this one’s just vibes and a winged disaster sitting on the floor.

Kas says he’s fine, and he’s absolutely lying.

I’ve been trying to explain what I mean when I call this style “deliciously crunchy”; it’s old internet slang meaning unpolished, raw, with bite. This man has color palette changes, so this time I separated the color layer from the line art... but didn’t consider separating the parts that remain static, like his clothing. 🙄 Anyway, here’s Kas being Kas.
