Today after lunch with some awesome people, two ladies stopped me while I was walking out of the restaurant: "We saw your tee shirt and wanted to ask what its from." I told them it was from a band, Silent Planet, that writes songs about topics that matter, like how we treat one another and not forgetting or repeating wounds made in our history. They looked so encouraged hearing me explain why I respected what they were about, and how they write their song lyrics educationally (I used 'Native Blood' as an example, such as the reference to a quote attributed to Chief Seattle of the Suquamish tribe- that listeners could look up and learn more) and how Garrett @silentgarrett, their vocalist, was also a Masters student who has studied these issues- things that I agree people should really care about. "We couldn't read the top with your hair down to know if it was something you were for or not, but we like it," she told me. I thanked her (first of all 😂) for saying my hair is 'long' enough now to cover anything, and then assured her that I was definitely FOR the message of what's on my shirt, which is why I wear it openly. It was awesome to have someone else appreciate it and be willing to spark a conversation with a stranger about it. Moments like today is why I appreciate @silentplanetband existing and making meaningful connections like this happen.
