ABO DunkMaekar
Omega!Widowed!Maekar who is forced to attend Ashford with his beloved Alpha brother. Baelor has always been a very good older brother to Maekar, Baelor has always been an advocate for Maekar being able to do things. I think in this omegaverse Maekar has fought in wars, much in the same way there has always been women dragon riders, but omegas are not expected to get a formal position of political power. He loved Dyanna and bore her children but she passed away and he’s sad, but he won’t remarry (nor does King Daeron ever really intend to because Maekar is just not the sort that is worth the fuss of marrying, so few benefits due to his prickly personality). Still, that doesn’t mean he’s not lonely. He has his walls up because he has been judged his entire life for not being a delicate omega. That does mean it’s hard for him to let others in. It would have to take someone brave enough to try. Or someone stupid.
Age reversal and omegaverse au, Dunk is older and is the half brother to Daeron the good. They grow up together, Dunk is his good brother alongside Brynden Rivers, they train together, learn letters and numbers together and even share all their worries and fears with one another. Daeron names him his sword and they are always seen in each other's company, sharing stories and telling jokes. Daeron names him Ser Duncan the Tall and says he is the people's champion.
Dunk is there when Daeron II Targaryen marries Myriah Martell. He is present when Baelor, Aerys, Rhaegal, and Maeker are born. He saw them through their infancy, childhood and then their teenage faze eventually he saw them as men grown.
Unfortunately his nephews inherited their Targaryen inclination towards family members, in particular, Dunk himself. Dunk is as always oblivious when it comes to romantic overtures.
It starts with Baelor saying when he is older he will marry Dunk and make him a proper Targaryen wife, then Aerys says he'll accompany Dunk into the shared bathing quarters and read to him, Rhaegal drags Dunk into dancing and making merry all the time, Maeker challenges him everyday and is relentless in making Dunk cross swords with him. Dunk just thinks their being good Targaryen Princes and that they like to keep up with their family members in all manner of ways, he does not notice when they start marking him in their scents or when other courtiers get scared away from their overzealous peacocking.
Daeron is the one who gets to spend the most time with Dunk obviously and his children think that it is extremely unfair (screw the fact that he is king, am I right? His children think so) they whine and throw tantrums whenever Dunk is away for too long (going on political journeys to settle disputes or beat down any Blackfyre riots). When Dunk comes back his time is completely monopolised by Daeron, Myriah and their children. His only spare time is spent soothing his horses and when he goes to sleep.
i actually enjoy the break of class between maekar and dunk, and dunk receiving no punishment for it.
dunk himself never really addresses or treats maekar as a prince. when he first meets him, it's when he is spying on the targaryens and while he fumbles around with his words and all, his honorifics and respectful tone are toward baelor. the one he regards as a prince and treats as such is baelor. the one dunk speaks to as if he is addressing someone from the royal family is baelor, nor maekar.
toward the end, when maekar and dunk have their conversations, dunk addresses maekar very informally. Specifically when Maekar offers Dunk a place at Summerhall, Dunk, "I'm done with princes", would be taken awfully by almost any other Targaryen man. Meaning, other Targaryen royalty would've seen Dunk's tone as very dismissive and disrespectful given what Maekar just offered Dunk, but Maekar, did not get upset. He just, accepted it. If I were to say one thing he probably was upset on behalf of Egg, which is most likely one of the reasons he refused to allow Egg to go with Dunk. Because while he didn't feel Dunk insulted him with that, 'I'm done with princes' line, despite Maekar's offer being genuine and displaying his own vulnerability during his grief, Maekar probably knew Egg was listening.
Another thing I notice is that aside from Aerion, the Maekarlings themselves also break class and protocol with Dunk in a similar way to their father. They talk to Dunk like he is one of them or they are one of him, Daeron is drinking and speaking to Dunk and there are no honorifics or anything used, he just doesn't gaf. And then there is Egg. (it is a huge contrast to Valaar whom is very dismissive and short with Dunk, and treats him as a Targaryen prince would normally treat a small folk. And Dunk also views/addresses him as a prince. )
but the point is that, while maekar struggles with his own classism, dunk often time speaks to him out of turn and also addresses maekar as if he is not speaking to a prince. even more so after the death of baelor, the formalities are just not there, on both ends.
after dunk initially pulls the 'im done with princes line', he goes back to seek out maekar and HE, requests Maekar's presence. A small folk not only requests an audience with the prince, but he is granted it without having to go through any hoops and aside from Maekar being petty on Egg's behalf, there is still a breaking of class and formalities. Dunk is not talking to Maekar like a prince, and while Maekar does deny Dunk taking Egg on his journey first by saying, 'he is the blood of the dragon', he quickly refutes that and says, 'he's my las son'. a vulnerability that is rare for a prince to display to a commoner. and he is on the verge of tears when he is saying this.
the point is that while there is a thin veil of prince/small folk between those two, the lack of formalities and respect toward a prince between them is very unique. because they speak toward the end as equals, and even beofre, when Dunk is referring to the brother's in an honorific way as if he is speaking to nobility, it is usually Baelor he is speaking to. He views Baelor as a prince, as this untouchable and pure being that is on a different plane than him and everyone else. Almost a madonna like figure.
But Dunk does not view Maekar in that light, nor addresses him as such. His talks and the way he regards Maekar is a lot more human and equal and Maekar never does anything to correct the way he is addressed by Dunk in such a casual way.
I'm just flowing with AKOTSK ideas rn so here we go again!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So imagine an a/b/o AU where Duncan grew up at court as the son of a minor lord.
Over the years he and the older Targaryen children bond so well that you can rarely find one all alone; servants and members of the family or court often talk of finding them all sneaking pastries from the kitchens, creating the loudest table at dinners, playing games and laying in the gardens speaking High Valyrian (they all taught Duncan how to speak it as soon as they could do it fluently), or making up their own kinds of archery/sparring/riding competitions.
And when the younger dragon's are born one after the other, and Duncan can be found holding or playing with the pups more often then their nurses/parents!
Daeron, Aerion, and Valarr all age into beautiful, light-haired alphas worthy of the name Targaryen, and they comfort an unpresented Duncan as time goes by, comfortable in the theory that he was simply a Beta or a late bloomer.
Life is good, court is still strange and somewhat foreign to Duncan, but its okay so long as he can remain with his dragons.
But life changes.
On the morning of his 19th nameday, Duncan presents as an Omega when the whole keep thought him to be a Beta. The news spreads all throughout the Red Keep by mid morning - how could such a large boy turn out to be blessed by the Mother? Why had it taken so long for the Seven to bless him so?
Word reaches the royal family as they break their fast. Queen Myriah is ecstatic, another omega to join her, King Daeron is polite in his astonishment but whispers his prayer that the boy makes it through his presentation with little to no pain.
Baelor and Maeker agree with him but are indifferent to the news as a whole, but they do notice how quiet Daeron, Aerion, and Valarr are as they exchange glances across the table, words passing with a single shared look between the three of them. The brothers dismiss it as worry for their friend and leave it at that.
The children - Aegon, Matarys, Daella, and Rhae - are too young to full understand, but they are happy either way.
A few days later and Duncan has recovered enough to rejoin his friends in the garden. The dragons go to greet him but before they can get any words out, the smell of patchouli and musk floats over to them on the breeze to steal the breath from their lungs.
They had all thought him comely before, but with his new scent coupled with that of the coppery hair that brushed his shoulders, the freckles that danced across his skin like constellations, his eyes of pure summer-sky blue, and the strength that grew more physically obvious as days went by - well, lets just say, Duncan was something carved by the Seven themselves and blessed by the Mother and Maiden themselves. It was difficult to stare at such beauty for too long, but it hurt just as much to look away.
They all continue on with the way life was, with Duncan only being stolen away a few times a day to take lessons on "how to be a good omega".
And one day, when its obvious by the suns position that he is set to be taken away to a musty library and sat at a too small desk for a few hours as a tutor talks in a monotone voice on the best ways to keep house, Aerion comes up with the great idea to steal Duncan away first.
They flee on horseback when they hear his tutor calling for him. They go swimming in a safer, more secluded part of the Blackwater Rush.
But Duncan is blind to Aerion's wandering eyes as he undresses, the blush that sits high on Valarr's cheeks when he watches Duncan climb out of the river with water dripping from his pale, freckled skin, and the warm glances that Daeron keeps throwing at him as they lay naked to dry in the sun.
Life goes on, with Duncan never catching on to the longing, and sometimes lustful, gazes his friends shoot his way.
During a feast held to honour something, Duncan is dressed in a manner befitting a royal event - its not a gown, but its as close as it could get. It's a beautiful outfit in forest green that's branded with the elm tree of his house, with chains and brocades of gold and a star coronet.
He catches the eye of many, but none more that House Targaryen. Rightfully so, Daeron, Aerion, and Valarr are bewildered and ashamed at the way their bodies react to the sight of their friend, but what they don't see is the reaction Duncan has garnered from Maekar and Baelor. They too are ashamed at their own reactions, both physically and mentally, but it is all washed away and replaced with want and jealousy when they notice Duncan laughing and dancing with a certain alpha stag.
In that moment, each and everyone of Duncan's suitors (whether that be father, uncle, nephew, son, or even horny stag) decides to make it his life mission to earn Duncan's loyalty and love.
Who will our beautiful, honourable Duncan choose?

Wow okay that took some serious brain effort to type out. I'm sorry that was so long and probably very difficult to read, at some point it stopped being the outline of an idea and turned into me basically telling you the story lol. I did rush the ending a little, i wanted to focus on Maekar, Lyonel, and Baelor a lot more but i cannot focus on the time and i have to leave soon, but who knows maybe i'll revisit this.
I would love to see this as a more fleshed out AU, and i honestly got this idea as a more Hedgestorm idea, but i haven't really written it like that (very strange for me) and you dont have to either!
Anyway, if you find this "idea" at all interesting, please feel free to write or draw something about it, just remember to please give a little credit, doesn't have to be anything big, just a little tag or something <3
Omega Maekar who cannot lose his last son to Alpha Ser Duncan... he must keep Egg at Summerhall somehow... so he does the obvious thing and... baby-traps Dunk.
