If you want to worship the gods of ancient Greece you need to research about ancient Greece 😱. If you want to worship the pop culture deities of Percy Jackson or Epic The Musical or whatever else then do that but don’t call yourself a HelPol please!

(This post isn’t to discourage anyone and again there are very easy ways of doing research especially now with so many resources free to access on the internet)

Little Rituals

Not every rituals needs to be complex and long. This year, I've started a ritual of praying in the morning when I open my living room blinds. My prayer goes like this:

Good morning great gods and goddesses above, below, and in between. Good morning Zeus Good morning Sophrosyne Good morning Khione (etc for whoever I wish to greet) May you bless me this day, and may my actions honor you. Khaire!

It's not much, but a small daily reminder of the gods' presence in my life has brought a lot of meaning every day.

Erebus is not telling you that there is no fear to be had in the dark. He is not there to console you and say that everything is okay- that there won't be something frightening staring back at you from the shadows.

Erebus is the knowledge that there Will be something scary looking back at you, waiting to pounce. He is the acceptance of inevitability, of knowing that sometimes we do have enemis lurking just out of eyesight.

But that inevitability comes with faith.

Faith that no matter what happens, the world moves on. That the sun will set and the moon will wax and wane and continue its course. That our enemies in the dark will never be large enough or powerful enough to sway everything that we are.

Erebus is the push to give yourself over to being vulnerable. To relinquish control. And to have faith that we can handle whatever comes to us in the night.
