Mwahaha i got a finished commission from the lovely @smokbeast! If you guys love mers and gorgeous coloring please go get some art from them as well. Here's the art: ill be yapping beneath about him.

So i get this little itch every once in a blue moon. The character im hyperfixating on at that time immediately gets mermaid-ified. Hellboy was lucky enough to have ripped my heart out to keep it for himself this time.

When it comes to assigning mersonas to your favorite characters, sometimes it's an easy one and done, you can find eldritch mer people or beasts on pinterest or tumblr. OR you can find mermaid fanart of them to make it easy. But i felt like hellboy deserved a more... Intricate design than just slappin him with a fish and calling it good. Also i hadn't seen anybody do this yet so i wonder if I've finally had an original thought. :3

Hellmer's tail inspiration comes from a mix of oarfish, arapaima, coelecanth, and betta. It was determined ultimately by calling counsel among my friends by hiding my true intent by asking "what fish gives hellboy vibes?" Safe to say i was immediately figured out because this is about the twelvth time ive done it-

I wanted to give him an ancient and badass but still beautiful look because, what can i say. He's badass and beautiful and id absolutely let bro shoot out of the depth in endless open water to give me a heart attack-

For the coloring, the artist did an AMAZING job depicting his colorations from a reference i gave them of LAVA. (Cause hell is hot and i didnt just want to make him red and call it good.)

I know its not mermay but its like 20 or so days away so good enough for me. Maybe ill actually write for it this year and try to draw his cave :3
