Prompt 20 - Centaur

After much swearing and pacing, they were finally calm enough to discuss what to do next. 

“I say we capture the rat, take him to a nice secluded spot and get him to call his master. Then we kill them both,” Regulus said matter-of-factly, barely blinking at the horrified expressions on the marauder's faces. 

“Or maybe we won’t do that,” Sirius said slowly, turning away from his brother and concentrating on Remus. 

“Fine, we use him to lure Voldemort out into the open. We kill Voldemort and throw the rat into the path of a stampeding Centaur, then let nature take its course.” Regulus countered. 

“For the last time, Regulus, we are not using him as bait!” Sirius growled at his brother. 

“Well, actually, it’s not a bad idea,” Remus said calmly. Sirius couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He looked at Remus and gave him a look, saying ‘What the heck?’ 

“Not the murder part,” He rolled his eyes. “I mean using Peter as bait. Make him tell Voldemort that he’s got information or something, and draw the snake out,” Well, when Remus put it that way, it sounded like a decent plan.  

“Think we should follow him for a bit. Just to see where he’s going. He thinks he’s fooled us all, so he won’t be expecting a tail. Especially one of us,” James piped in. He’d been pretty quiet for the entire discussion, but Sirius could see the utter devastation in his eyes from Peter’s betrayal. 

“Okay,” Sirius agreed, Remus and Regulus followed suit. 

They followed him for days, with nothing out of the ordinary happening, but then, Peter changed his routine. He travelled to Knockturn Alley and met up with none other than Lucius Malfoy. Peter passed him a scroll of parchment and left. Sirius was hot on his tail. 

Sirius took a shortcut and waited at the mouth of an alleyway that he knew Peter was about to walk past. 

“Hello, Peter,” He crooned as Peter came into view. He didn’t give the shocked man time to react. He conjured ropes to tie him up and apparated to the edge of their forest. Peter was about to wish he’d never betrayed them.
