Climbed castle walls-

Carried scars of dragons

You held out your hand expectedly

And in your eyes,

I saw such a kindness.

We lingered in-between together,

Feeling like children-

Hidden from horrors,

And now you ask of me.

"Run away with me."

I hesitate,

You insist.

Yet I reach out my hand to meet yours,

And you disappear in smoke.

The quiet of the night and delicious breeze

Replaced with the roar of fire-

The waves of heat that engulf me once more,

And I can't help but laugh into the destruction.

The burning reminder has never let me down.

I flickered beside you,

Careful to keep your path clear.

A foolish mistake that will not be made again.

A lesson learned that if something was meant to burn,

Let it all fucking burn.

But you're not allowed to feel the paint strokes that were so carefully placed,

diligently framed.

Phil has been nervous about letting Dani go alone, even though everyone has assured her that it was going to be fine, that they have done it enough times to know the path by heart. Martyn had needed her to stay because it was going to be a busy week, but now Dani was late to return and none of it mattered.
