Do not forget who we are

While trying to find ourselves.

Never regret the choices we make

Even though at times we often do.

We may grow apart,

And I dare say we probably will;

When that time comes,

Just remember who we were

When we were together.

As for when we are apart,

Remember how new we are to ourselves

Without each-other, thanks to each-other.

I am me now because of it.

We will always be,

Do not forget.

There is space here.

There is space here,

From the tip of my fingers to the breath of G-d

Let there be light.

There is space in-between and all around,

For you and I and him and her and all.

One breath and suddenly the stars are closer,

Exhale and the sun has risen,

Blink and the world is gone.

There is space here to:

Create, love, dance, laugh, explore, live.

There is space out there,

Where time flows in directions unknown,

And where life still exists.

There is space here:

In my heart, of course.

I should have listened to my own advice.

“Don’t look for meaning, look for fulfillment.”

I should have listened.

It can be hard, sometimes,

To not seek meaning in a sphere of billions.

Anything can be my fulfillment,

But what does it mean?

I get it now, though!

I get it.

Don’t look for meaning.

Just be fulfilled.

Don’t look.

Just be.

I am halfway home tonight

And I remember you.

In the darkness and the rain,

Through this winter and this pain,

I remember you.

It hurts me now than when I lost you,

Because when I held you,

Goodbye was never than,

And goodbye was never goodbye until right now.

Halfway home and I remember you;

I remember you but you are no longer here,

And suddenly I am crying,

And suddenly I am screaming,

And I remember you.

Except this night is too cold,

And the rain keeps falling,

But I hope it never stops,

Because these tears keep coming.

You are gone, you are gone,

My friend.

I miss you, I miss you so much.

There is no halfway now,

Because my home was you,

And you are gone,

And tonight I remembered you.

I just wish I could say goodbye.

There are people in pain who promote the same pain,

And it hurts!

I am tired, mom.

You raised me to be strong—Oh how I try!—but I could only dream to be as strong as you.

These nights are long and filled with words;

The dull light of my laptop consumes me into a world of charts and statistics and foreign words written on more pages than the Odyssey.

Yet not so far away is the world of those stuck in a perpetual cycle of self-loathing and unhealthy desires,

And it draws me in to fight.

I always fight.

The need for confrontation is in my bones, the same ones that these eyeless, voiceless faces carve into their tiny boxes:

“You are undeserving, so feel my pain and suffer as you should.”

I cannot win this battle, but if I can take the hand of just one

Then perhaps it’s not too late for them.

This night I claim!

Flames of my ancestors burning above,

Shadows of souls moving below,

And the world is quiet now.

This night I claim!

Hours before the crest of dawn

That will silence the moon,

And the heavens call out my name.

This night I claim!

As the eyes of God regard me,

Bringing forth the richness of life,

And suddenly my path is becoming.

people want the world

until it burns.

they complain and sob,

place blame on others—

politicians as if they did not vote,

corporations as if they did not buy,

religion as if they do not believe.

pathetic, isn’t it?

how people want the world

until it’s at their feet,

then they burn it.
