people talk about apollo's dodgeball of prophecy but they don't talk about hermes's dodgeball of Sudden Loud Message
(this meme is my attempt to combat said seriousness)
does anyone else associate Hermes with raccoons or is that just me
I’ve been thinking a lot about Hermes lately. Mostly, I sense him when I work on my communication or read books. But I don’t really associate him with pranks, since I feel he doesn’t prank me often. But when he does, it’s awesome. XD Here are two pranks I can recall recently:
The first related to a career choice. Either I could stay a cheesemonger or pursue another job in a language school. I asked both Apollo and Hermes for specific signs to show me the most beneficial choice. For Hermes, I’d asked him to let me find - in public - a group of four pennies if the answer was to take the language school job and a group of four dimes if the answer was to stay a cheesemonger. Apollo had given me his sign to go ahead and take the job, but I didn’t see anything from Hermes. I wound up pursuing the language school job. When I got in on my first day and started tidying up my desk, I found four pennies stacked in the corner. XD I want to get a statue of Hermes for the desk and place them at the base. ^^
The other time was when I misplaced my phone. I rarely misplace my phone, when I do, I either know where it is or my family calls it and I always find it in a few minutes. So I lose my phone, my family calls it and I spend the next 20 MINUTES looking for it. I can hear it, but the sound is coming from the wall of my room? Turns out it was a few feet away from me, in the middle of the floor, (where I would never put or drop it) under a bunny slipper. This was immediately after I’d started associating Hermes with rabbits. I laughed and in the end thought it was quite an awesome prank. XD
I really adore him. 💕 He has such a joyful, friendly energy. Even though I’m naturally shy, he really helps me communicate better with others and makes me want to be a kinder person. Hermes really is amazing. 💕
Things from Home that Remind me of Hermes
i’m feeling homesick so here are some things i relate with Hermes that help me feel better about being away (UPG)
Thrifting/Second Hand Shops
especially getting trinkets and old things
Walking to the Post Office
Walking to Meet Friends
i don’t drive lol
Stealing from Walmart
The Farmers Market
I’m trying to draw Hermes roller skating because in my personal experience he very much enjoys it and has a pair of skates with wings on them. Keyword: trying. I only doodle so often 😂
Hermes: UPG Post
So I’ve been getting to know the Greek gods a little bit better and let me tell you, it’s been quite the ride.
Hermes is literally not at all what I expected. I mean, I don’t really know what I was expecting in the first place, but it wasn’t an energetic, comical, quirky guy who shows up at the most random times in the weirdest of places.
I first contacted Hermes on a whim, driving with one of my other Pagan friends. We were running super late to a meeting and me, suddenly remembering from that the Greek god of travel was Hermes, asked Hermes to help us out a bit.
We hit every single red light just as it turned.
Turns out, uh, my friend pretty much doubted that Hermes would do anything for us, since she’s not really into the Greek pantheon. Still, we offered up a leg of KFC chicken we bought earlier as a psuedo-offering, since we did after all ask for his help.
Fast-forward to a month later where I’m traveling by plane to New Jersey. Hermes pops up again in my head, and I get this sense of “I’ll help you out, kid, if you just get me a trinket from the airport.”
Fair enough. I walk into the airport looking for this mystery item and there it is: a stuffed rubber-duck plushie that’s dressed as the statue of liberty and quacks when you press it.
It was the most ridiculous, tourist-y thing I’d ever seen in my entire life. I was going back and forth from the booth because the mere thought of buying it embarrassed me, let alone carrying it with me back home and trying to explain to my parents why I bought something so silly. “Oh, yeah, mom. I got this as an offering to an ancient god that I can sometimes hear speaking to me in my head.”
Hermes is all but quiet, though. Literally felt him grinning at me the entire time I was trying to get the courage to go up to the cute cashier and buy this toy for him. He kept going through the same string of phrases in my head of “yes, that’s it, that’s the one, you should totally get it, isn’t it cool?”
Eventually I just sighed, admitted defeat, and bought the damn thing.
And that’s how I began talking to Hermes, the god with the mega-watt smile and master of mischief.
