Walker Independence, the prequel series that follows Cordell's ancestor, Abigail Walker, premieres Thursday, Oct. 6 on The CW. The spin-off
From the article:
These are just a couple of tidbits about Kai! There hasn't been a lot of information about Lawrence's character, so it was great to learn more about Kai!
Despite ending in January 2020, Green Arrow is still necessary in the Arrowverse.
Arrow, the CW‘s flagship DC show, debuted in 2012, and its popularity resulted in spin-offs galore, including The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Each Arrowverse show got its start on Arrow and over the years, the characters interacted often. But that ended when Arrow ended in January 2020.
With Stephen Amell, who portrayed Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, deciding to move on, the show came to a conclusion with the death of the green-hooded vigilante. But the absence of the Green Arrow leaves a gaping hole that will be difficult to fill, especially when the crossovers that are so popular air.
After a chilling and memorable performance by Darren Criss in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, the actor’s Emmy nomination surprised no one. Here are the moments that captured the television academy’s attention most…
Darren Criss took on the role of spree killer Andrew Cunanan in Ryan Murphy’s FX series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. The actor’s portrayal scored him a nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series category. Other actors in the race for the big prize include Antonio Banderas in Genius: Picasso, John Legend in Jesus Christ Superstar, and Jesse Plemons in Black Mirror. All worthy talent, but we’re betting Criss will take home the honor.
Below, we take a look back Criss’ best moments as Cunanan.
Cunanan is no “Easy Lover”
Episode two “Manhunt”
This episode features the first time we see Andrew Cunanan’s devilish tricks. He and Ronnie (Max Greenfield) find an older businessman who is down for some discreet fun with Cunanan. Unfortunately for him, Cunanan had a different idea of a good time. In a scene that looks right out of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, Cunanan covers the married man’s face in duct tape and turns up the volume to Phillip Bailey and Phil Collins’ “Easy Lover.” The man panics as he begins to suffocate, but Cunanan is busy dancing his heart out! He jumps on top of the man gasping for air and tells him to submit before cutting an air hole just in time.
A heartless Cunanan- Episode three “A Random Killing”
This entire episode showcases brilliant performances, but Darren Criss’ ruthless portrayal of Cunanan stands out. Out of all the episodes in the series, “A Random Killing,” is by far the most violent and difficult to watch. But to the cruel Cunanan, it’s just another day on his way to get to Gianni Versace.
Cunanan pumps it up – Episode four “House By The Lake”
After beating Jeff (Finn Wittrock) to death, Andrew takes off with David (Cody Fern). And instead of being afraid or feeling regret for his actions, Cunanan opens the car window and jams to Technotronic’s “Pump Up The Jam.”
Cunanan’s dad – Episode eight “Creator/Destroyer”
The moment Andrew Cunanan and Lizzie (Annaleigh Ashford) first meet is pretty fabulous! But the scene that steals the show in episode eight, “Creator/Destroyer,” is when Cunanan is forced to face the harsh reality of who his father, Modesto (Jon Jon Brinoes), really is. Angry, Cunanan tells his father he will never be like him, but he already was.
The finale – Episode nine, “Alone”
Cunanan, believing his father is coming to the rescue, sits tight with the television on. He somehow still imagines he’ll walk out of this with no consequences, but that hope quickly vanishes when his best friend Lizzie appears on television pleading Andrew to turn himself in. This is followed by an interview with David Madson’s father. Finally, the one person Cunanan still had love for, Modesto Cunanan, is on TV announcing a television program about his son, already cashing in on this tragedy. All of this breaks Cunanan as he realizes how alone he is.
Who are you rooting for? Are you hoping Darren Criss takes home the Emmy? The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards air Monday, September 17, on NBC.
Shadowhunters Fans Surpass 8 Million Tweets in Support of Season 4, Raise $5,500 for The Trevor Project
Hidden Remote. Marissa Massiano. June 11, 2018.
With close to 100,000 signatures, over 8 million tweets, and $5,500 raised for The Trevor Project. The Shadowhunters fandom continues to fight passionately for a season 4. Here’s how you can help #SaveShadowhunters!
I will be the first to admit that I never expected to be writing this article, not because I didn’t think the ShadowFam could reach 8 million tweets and coordinate a fundraiser in less than a week (I know they can), but because this season 4 cancellation of Shadowhunters was so incredibly unexpected. Did I listen to Ruelle on my drive home from work after I got the cancellation news? Yes. Did I get emotional when “This Is The Hunt” coincidentally played first after I switched Spotify to shuffle play? Also yes.
Because of the schedule for seasons 1 and 2, it seemed likely that season 3 would follow suit and premiere in early 2018, but when a date in late spring was announced at NYCC last year, it took fans by surprise. With season 3B originally scheduled for August (a date that is also a few months later than when 2B aired last year), this new jump all the way to spring 2019 feels like a slap in the face to many fans. It’s understandable that the network and the show’s creators would want to keep those final 2 extra episodes in succession with the rest of 3B, but it’s now possible that season 3 will be stretched out longer than an entire year. Not to mention, this Halloween special we heard about will likely also air in the spring.
We do have reasons to be grateful though. Unlike other shows who were canceled this year without a conclusion to the story, Shadowhunters will have another 3-4 weeks of filming for the additional, final two episodes, and we still have 12 new episodes to celebrate when they (finally) air next spring. But for hundreds of thousands of fans, a 12-episode season 3B as the series finale is just not acceptable, and they’ve united as a community worldwide to make their voice heard.
The strategy behind #SaveShadowhunters
And they’re not just tweeting and commenting; they’ve constructed a full-out website where they’ve compiled strategies and information about how to participate in the fight on and off social media for a renewal. In addition to the website, fans have also put together a 4-page Google doc with contacts, links, comment scripts and email templates for fans to use who are interested in contacting networks directly, along with a separate guide for Twitter strategy.
The hashtag #SaveShadowhunters trended in the #1 spot worldwide for hours following the cancellation news, continuing to rank worldwide over the next several days. Using Hashtracking, we’ve looked into just how many tweets have been posted so far from five of the most popular hashtags being used by the fandom and the totals surpass 8 million (as of Sunday, June 10).
#SaveShadowhunters is the most popular tag by far, with over 4.7 million tweets, and #PickUpShadowhunters follows with over 2.3 million. Twitter accounts dedicated specifically to the show have also united to create planned tweet sessions using alternative tags. So far, #NotOurLastHunt and #SaveTheShadowWorld are both close to .5 million tweets each, and #RenewShadowhunters also has a quarter of a million tweets.
Support from the Shadowhunters cast and crew
The Shadowhunters cast continues to fight and participate in the #SaveShadowhunters hashtag as well, and while I could post every single one of them here, it seems much more efficient and impactful to post this incredible photo collage filled with (just a portion of) the tweets from current and former cast members.
Focusing energy into The Trevor Project campaign
A Change.org petition was quickly started to gather signatures, and by the time this article is live on our site, it may have crossed 100,000 names. Wanting to do something impactful with the energy and passion from the surge of fans who took to social media out of anger for the shows’ cancellation, a donation page for The Trevor Project was also created and is being managed by a Shadowhunters entertainment news site called Basic Shadowhunters Stuff. As of Sunday, June 10, over $5,550 had been raised.
Brie Burnham of Basic Shadowhunters Stuff said that while their site wasn’t the first to come up with the idea of donating to The Trevor Project, they saw that many fans were starting to donate to the organization in honor of Shadowhunters. “We sort of realized that it would be more useful to have everyone giving in one place, so we consolidated it,” Burnham said.
“There was a lot of anger and frustration and hopelessness going around, and some fans started talking about how it would be useful to channel that anger into putting something good into the world, both to raise awareness and also showcase the generosity of the Shadowhunters fandom,” she explained. “We are passionate, dedicated, and worldwide and we wanted to show off the power of our fandom to do good.”
Contribute to the growing campaign HERE!
Fans who are donating to The Trevor Project, a campaign which has now been translated into multiple languages by Shadowhunters fans around the world, are also able to write a comment and share their experience as being part of the Shadowhunters fandom. After scrolling through just a few dozen posts, it’s very clear that the community that was created and developed around this fantasy series was about so much more than the Shadow World alone.
Showrunner Todd Slavkin has showed support for the fundraiser, but Freeform has been silent so far. Several fans reported that after they had posted the donation link on the official Shadowhunters Facebook page, that the links were later deleted. However, It’s unclear whether someone who runs the account is actually deleting the posts, or if Facebook is filtering them out as spam links without Freeform’s knowledge. Regardless, we hope that Freeform will help support the fundraising campaign by sharing the donation site on their official social media pages soon.
Have you participated in #SaveShadowhunters, signed the Change.org petition, and donated to The Trevor Project yet? What are you waiting for? Go show your support for this show and its inclusive, international community!
Fear the Walking Dead Interview: Lisandra Tena breaks down Lola’s past, her decision-making process, her role as the Water Queen, and the potential future.
With only a few episodes left in Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead, we had a lot to discuss as we sat down with star Lisandra Tena, who was kind enough to join us at Hidden Remote to discuss her role as Lola Guerrero, AKA the Water Queen, on Fear the Walking Dead.
Quite a bit is happening with her character at the moment. She’s managing the Gonzalez Dam, distribution of water to the surrounding city, a conflicting relationship with Efrain (Jesse Borrego) and Daniel (Ruben Blades), and has also recently entered into a trade partnership with the Broke Jaw Ranch via Madison (Kim Dickens).
Hidden Remote: Not much is known about Lola’s back story. How do you think her upbringing led her towards being a water utility officer and philanthropist?
Lisandra Tena: Well, I definitely know she’s hardworking. Her family is from Tijuana and [she] comes from a hardworking family. And it’s probably something she was raised with, being near the dam and all. My perspective on the character was that’s the reason why she does what she does. It’s because she was raised in that part of town. She’s very familiar with the people there, and with the way things work. It just came naturally to her. She just stuck around and kept working.
Hidden Remote: Lola is indirectly responsible for Pablito getting executed on the catwalk. In which way is her remorse guiding her decisions? Do you think it is?
Tena: I think it is to a certain degree. It’s probably not the first time this has happened. It’s probably the first time it happened in front of her, but she has been around Dante. She’s had to deal with him, which is why she is going through so much. It’s because of the things that he does. She’s been told of the things that he does, but this is the first time she’s seen it happen.
[Pablito’s death] has stuck with her and that’s why she’s firm and she’s hard-headed when it comes to not wanting to open up to the idea or accept the idea of having weapons as a tool to get people to do something for her.
Hidden Remote: Lola’s secret 5 p.m. water supply arrangement with Efrain may have been flawed from the start since Dante would obviously track usage and consumption. In what ways do you think Lola could have continued her efforts without getting caught?
Tena: I think it would have worked. It would have continued to work, but we brought in a new person to the group, which was Daniel, and I think that’s where we made the mistake. We don’t know him. He’s a stranger. We don’t know what his intentions were from the beginning. I think that’s where it went wrong. It would have stayed the same, to be honest, but I think that’s mainly where it went wrong. I don’t think the water distribution plan was flawed.
Dante is running the dam at that point, but that doesn’t mean he knows exactly how the dam works. Lola is the one who knows how it works, how much water they have, what needs to happen in order for it to be filtrated and available to drink. So, in that sense she has the upper hand because she can say anything. She can tell Dante everything is fine and there’s plenty of water.
Hidden Remote: Lola was clearly appalled by Daniel’s decision to reveal Efrain’s whereabouts. Why do you think Daniel made such a poor choice when countless others were available (i.e. he sees/hears something elsewhere, or has a hunch)? Does it reveal anything else about Daniel?
Tena: That’s a good question. Well, in the moment, you have to make a decision quickly. Especially then. Either he would have given up where the water was coming from or he would have given up the location of the person. So he had to make a quick decision. It may not have been the best decision, but that’s typically what you do [laughs] when there are high stakes and your adrenaline is rushing. You have to make a quick decision.
Maybe Daniel was thinking ahead of possibly taking Dante down? In the moment, the more natural and realistic situation is a quick decision.
Hidden Remote: Why do you believe Lola became the leader of the Gonzalez Dam, even though Daniel killed Dante?
Tena: Because she’s the one that has been there since the beginning. She was there before Dante. She knows how this water dam works. That’s her home. She’s been working there. She lives there. After the apocalypse, she stayed and she knows it really, really well. I think naturally that’s why she became the leader after Dante. The people trusted her. Not only because she’s a very caring and compassionate person, but because she knows what she’s doing and she knows how the dam works. And because she cares about the community.
Naturally she’s a leader. I believe she’s a leader. And she’s a person of servitude. So it all just came naturally. Because Daniel is such a new character in that place, it wouldn’t make sense for him to just take over. For them to team up makes more sense.
Hidden Remote: In “Minotaur,” problematic trading with other communities was mentioned. How will Lola react when other groups ask for an arrangement similar to the one she has made with the Broke Jaw Ranch?
Tena: I remember Lola reacting to Madison and saying it’s none of her business. The people will probably react, I imagine, with more aggression, more frustration. They’re thirsty. They’re hungry. Things are not well, but she’s trying her best. Although, maybe her best is not good enough.
That’s probably not even her thinking at that point. We’re semi under attack from the community, because they have this thinking that perhaps it’s not being run the same way as Dante was running it. She wants to make that known and clear, but it’s not working.
She’s finally giving in to Daniel’s suggestions on the deal. It also has to deal with they have Daniel’s daughter, so Lola is more inclined to accept something that gets Daniel’s daughter back, because she knows how it affects him. She knows he may leave her to go find his daughter.
Hidden Remote: Why did Lola demand that Ofelia show up at the Mexicali trading post exchange?
Tena: I think it’s for Daniel. Most certainly is for Daniel and for him to stay at the dam. And also to establish some trust between Madison and Lola. If Madison comes through with what she said, she knows she can trust this person. Since Dante has been running the dam, she has been on guard. She’s trying to hang on tight and not lose control, and make good decisions. She needs Daniel there.
Hidden Remote: I noticed you recently retweeted several things related to humanitarian efforts in Puerto Rico and Mexico. How do your personal convictions make it easier to portray Lola?
Tena: It’s hard. It’s personal. My family is Mexican, but they all basically live in the States now. I was recently in Mexico City doing a press junket for the show and the people that I met were really wonderful. I had a really great experience. I got to walk around and really see the city. That was the first time that I’d gone to Mexico City. I’ve been to Northern Mexico many times as a child. It’s deeply personal because I know the people there. I know Mexican culture. I’m Mexican-American. It’s really, really sad, but it’s nice to know that they are strong. The people are really strong. People care for one another and you see them doing all that they can. All of their efforts will eventually be rewarding.
And my portrayal of Lola is one of strength that Mexican people carry. Like Lola, they also care for one another and think about serving other people. Others are thought of before the self.
Hidden Remote: When Daniel inevitably leaves, will Lola be able to hold the Gonzalez Dam without her enforcer?
Tena: Wait, wait, wait (laughing). So you’re assuming? Do I think Lola can take control or handle this water dam without Daniel?
Hidden Remote: I’m also asking if you think Daniel is going to leave.
Tena: I don’t think he’ll leave. I gotta be careful. I think Lola needs Daniel to run the dam. I think she desperately needs him. Efrain is not helping run this. I say this because Efrain is a person who just wants to free the water. He wants everyone to have the water, but that’s not realistic. It won’t last long. Then we’re screwed.
She definitely understands the value of the dam and what it means. So, when it comes to bargaining and supplying the water to the community, because she’s not a violent person and Daniel is. zHe’s trained and understands the world outside of the dam, he can help her run this dam.
Hidden Remote: If this were real, and you were in Lola’s shoes, what would you personally choose to do knowing the pitfalls of each scenario?
Tena: Oooh, that’s a good one. I would definitely side with Daniel when it comes to having weapons for protection.
Hidden Remote: Because of your tweets and previous answers, I thought you were going to side with Lola.
Tena: No, I’m definitely a much more experienced person, living out in the world. I’ve experienced a lot. Not to be boastful or arrogant, but I’ve experienced quite a bit so that’s why I have that perspective. [It supports] the choice that I would make [to] actually have the weapons. I would definitely protect the dam in that way.
Obviously I’m not a violent person, but if need be, especially in that circumstance, in the apocalypse, I’d be more realistic than a dreamer (laughs).
That’s Lola’s life. She’s been at the dam. So she doesn’t really understand full how the world works in this time, the apocalypse, and violent people that you can meet. She has not experienced that. She doesn’t really understand how it works and how people turn especially under this circumstance. I think that’s the only things she’s missing right now is a lack of understanding of what it really is like, and that’s why Daniel is there to help her with that.
~
A huge thanks goes out to Lisandra Tena for the interview. Her portrayal of Lola may end up being what keeps Fear the Walking Dead going in the near future. Will her kind heart continue to rule? Or, will she turn to the dark side as a water baroness?
Long live the Water Queen!
Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
