How You Met My Rage

Dear HIMYM Sorry Excuses for Writers, If I wanted to have a penis slapped in my face, I would've gone to Thunder from Down Under.  This final episode was everything that most of the internet didn't...

It was sloppy.

The entire episode felt like one of those filler episodes where they just tell funny stories from back then as we're waiting for a big reveal/dramatic episode. Also, Ted totally regressed. We had already established that he and Robin were pretty unhealthy together-- when she was worrying over the locket and Ted finding it, she said more stuff about how she liked what he did for her, not whether or not she liked him. He didn't seem to ever really see HER, he completely idolized her and put her on a goddamn pedestal.

And Barney? Gross. First we see him throw away seasons of character development, then he gets a girl pregnant and the rest of the gang didn't even have the decency to use her name when they were waiting for her to birth a baby. And it's only after he has a daughter that he starts to "respect" women (which is a tired and sexist trope)-- if you can call the condescending, hypocritical lecture he gave "respect." Really? You don't care how women are treated until you pass along your DNA to one? Get out.

I'll say that Robin and Barney sometimes made me uncomfortable with how they emotionally manipulated each other, but at the end of the previous episode, they grew up. Ted was never able to grow up around Robin, and the fucking blue french horn just rubbed that in for me. Maybe it was a nice romantic gesture, but it was WAY overdone for someone who has been married, seen a wife die, and just told the story of how he met the mother of his children. And is barely getting back together from that on and off relationship from 25 years ago. 

Which leads me to another issue: the mother got a couple moments of screentime and then got used as a plot device to allow Ted to fulfill his dream of settling down and having kids. 

This finale was bullshit.

I don't use tumblr enough to have xkit, but I am considering getting it just to blacklist fucking himym.  I do not want to see anymore angry rants on why it sucked - mostly because it did suck, and there is not a damn thing the fans can do about it.  The writers screwed over their characters and their fans with what they did, and because they did it in the finale - they aren't going to suffer any repercussions.  I can't stand that.  They are assholes.  Stupid, delusional, assholes that fucked up a fictional work for NO reason.  What they did was blatantly disrespectful to fans that have been with the series for NINE YEARS. 

The only people still clinging to Ted/Robin were delusional fuckwads that need to be smacked across the face.  The entire point of the series was that sometimes it doesn't work out between that one you thought for sure was it.  The idea was that if you just hold tight and persevere and NOT obsess and be some sort of freak over this one girl who TOLD YOU NO ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS.  It negated his "letting her go" and it made the relationship with the mom nothing but a plot device because "oh right we do have to put a mom in here because we made that twist."  Sometimes, the way you originally intended to go with the plot doesn't work out, and good writers will rewrite that because they realize how shitty clinging to a first draft is.  

Robin blatantly said she didn't love Ted - it was over.  She said yes to another guy.  He wasn't her first choice, at this point it is borderline STALKERISH for him to continue to try.  Then, he "let her go" which was apparently just a big fat lie of an episode.  l - o - l.

And then the writers proved to be counted among those delusional fuckwards that apparently don't give a SHIT about what women want or say they want.  Because really girls don't fucking know what they want, right?  It just takes seeing the guy they were "destined to be with" happily married to someone else for them to realize OH WAIT YES I REALLY DID ALWAYS WANT YOU. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WOMEN DO. Robin wasn't supposed to be like that.  She found happiness in an unconventional marriage, and she chose her career, and there wasn't a damn thing wrong with that.

But no, the HIMYM writers turned this into the most obnoxious story I've ever seen by saying that Robin was never happy because she wasn't with Ted. And that "women" can never really complete anybody since Ted had to go back to Robin after the supposed "love of his life" died, and Barney had to have a fucking kid, which he DIDN'T WANT AND WAS WITH A RANDOM FUCKING WOMAN.  Despite the fact that we were shown multiple times that Ted and Robin had fucking NOTHING IN COMMON, they shoved them together to cling to a first draft of a show that didn't suit the ending anymore.  And how disrespectful was it to the mother that they killed her and had the entire "meaningful" story about her be just a ploy to ask Robin out? 

Ted Mosby is a stalker and a creep and a jerk, and so are the HIMYM writers.  Fuck, I was just supposed to say I wanted to blacklist HIMYM and be done with it.
