my controversial (? or is it, i’m not quite sure) whiskey trio take is that bourbon trusted rye more than scotch did. rye was baring his soul trying to save scotch on that rooftop and telling him who he worked for and revealing his real name and then scotch still shot himself in response to this while furuya was out there having enough expectations that rye/akai should have saved scotch (a spy from a different agency than akai) to feel betrayed that he didn’t. the stage of betrayal - you don’t get betrayed by someone you never trusted.
anyway i love imagining how scotch was more cordial with rye than bourbon but that’s just because scotch was polite and cordial with everyone even gin, he got along with rye but was always wary and cautious in a way. bourbon was more short tempered with rye in a way that scotch disapproved of (bourbon claimed “i just dont get along with him. he annoys me” and scotch pointed out that bourbon had enough acting skills to maintain politeness or at least insincere smiles with most people) and scotch thought bourbon was actually letting down his guard around rye by showing realer emotions around him unnecessarily. he also thought back on furuya and matsuda’s friendship that started with arguments and fights and wanted to shake bourbon and say that rye was not matsuda this isn’t the academy you need to be more on your guard. anyway [insert scbb angry sex. rye is forgotten]
manifesting about Scotch having two different sets of claw marks on his back (or more?👀), Vermount comments on it and he just smiles humbly and said: they don't mind
Here are more kissing prompts for you to play with. Have fun!

Thank you for the prompts. <3
(for the kiss prompts)
I'm very excited about these, but I don't want to say much in order not to spoil them ahead of time. I can say this: all three are part of larger stories, one of which is already finished (but I've considered adding smaller sequel-type things to it). I'm not going to explain more than that (I will in comments if people have questions). :)
Enjoy!

♡ 4. lips barely touching
As soon as Akai sits on the couch, Rei goes with him, climbing onto his lap and straddling his hips so that they're facing each other. Akai grins as Rei takes his face in both hands and leans in until their lips are just brushing in an almost-kiss.
"Akai?" he asks, voice low and sultry.
Akai rests his hands on Rei's hips, humming. "Yes, Furuya-kun?"
"Did you make me your tether?"
He'll give Akai some credit – he doesn't jolt at Rei's question. He doesn't panic, or falter in his words. He merely sits back further on the couch, tilting his head slightly in confusion – feigned, of course; Rei is good enough at reading him by now – as he asks, "My tether? What do you mean?"
Rei straightens up, but does not move off Akai's lap; Akai doesn't seem inclined to move him, either. "I know what you are, Akai Shuuichi."
One of the hands at Rei's waist slides down to run fingers along his thigh; Rei doesn't hide his shiver at the touch. "And what is that?" He's still so very calm.
"A time traveler," Rei answers matter-of-factly, his tone suggesting they're discussing something much more mundane. Akai's eyebrow twitches – the very first real reaction he's given. "I started having these strange dreams shortly after we met, and something about you always seemed so… familiar. But we only met a few months ago, right? So how could you be familiar to me? Felt a bit silly looking into the more pseudo-science-y, mystical bullshit, but nothing else made sense, either."
Akai hums again. "What kind of dreams?"
"Of you – always of you. Sometimes your hair is different, or you look older. Sometimes you don't even look like you, and you go by a different name, but I know in my heart that it is you." Rei pauses there, settling on one particularly vivid dream. He reaches up with one hand and gently wipes his thumb along the soft skin under Akai's left eye, as if he's wiping away tears. Quietly, he asks, "Tell me, Akai Shuuichi… Did I die?"
The abject pain on Akai's face tells Rei all he needs to know, which turns out to be a good thing, because Akai doesn't answer that question. "That man you say you know is me. What name did he use?"
Akai closes his eyes and sighs in what can only be resignation when Rei answers, "Okiya Subaru."
"I don't know why you're having these dreams," Akai says, and there's more emotion in his voice than Rei has ever heard outside of his dreams. "You shouldn't be. That's not supposed to happen." He goes quiet for a long moment, his entire body tense, before he speaks again. "So many people died over the years, but you were the one I just couldn't let go. Even if you want nothing to do with me now that you know, I'm happy as long as you're safe."
Rei's heart clenches. He has so many questions, though he suspects Akai won't answer most of them, so, instead, he just leans in and kisses him, pressing as much of himself as he can to Akai, as if to say I'm here.

♡ 40. wake-up kisses
After a little over a year of the three of them living together, the second bedroom – the one with the bed, instead of the tatami room where they lay out the futon – has started to feel a little unnecessary. It still gets used, occasionally, but mostly as a guest room, when either Masumi or Shinichi stops by, so it isn't wholly being wasted, at least. It's nice to have a place for them to sleep.
More often than not, Rei wakes sandwiched between both of his soulmates; he's pretty certain, though he hasn't asked, that they do this to keep him from getting up too early when he doesn't need to. They've been very adamant that he rest as much as he can. After all, he makes his own hours now; he has nobody to answer to except for himself.
This morning is no different, although, with it being mid-summer, the heat of both warm bodies beside him is almost too much, even when he's just in his underwear. He shifts, wanting to get up, but there's no way he'll be able to slip out from under the blanket without disturbing either Hiro or Shuuichi, both of whom still appear to be sleeping; he'll have to wake at least one of them up.
And if he's waking one of them, then it's only fair to wake the other, too, right?
Shuuichi stirs a little, so he becomes Rei's first victim; he's always been a light sleeper, anyway. Shifting closer, Rei slips a hand onto Shuuichi's chest, trailing his fingers along warm skin, tracing the sunflowers, and murmurs, "Shuuichi," before pressing kisses to his arm and shoulder.
If Shuuichi tries to answer, it only comes out as a barely audible questioning noise at first, so Rei tries again.
"Shuuichi, let me up."
"No," Shuuichi responds. His voice is still rough, but of course that comes out clear enough. "Why?"
Rei snorts quietly. "Because you're too hot, that's why."
Shuuichi's mouth quirks up at the corner, though his eyes remain closed. "You too."
Pinching him lightly in retaliation, Rei huffs. "That's not what I meant."
Now actually fully awake, Shuuichi rolls onto his side to face Rei, his pretty eyes glittering with mischief, his hair an utter mess, with curls going in every direction. Even after this long, Rei still isn't quite used to the sight; his heart flutters with affection. "If you want up, you have to pay the toll."
Rei may love this man very much, but Shuuichi is seriously testing his patience this morning – even if he is cute. With an exaggerated eye-roll, Rei laces his voice with as much sarcasm as he can manage as he asks, "And what might the toll be, Shuuichi?"
Shuuichi's sleepy-but-roguish grin does not affect him in the slightest. At least, that's what Rei tells himself. Shuuichi presses a finger to his lips and says, just in case Rei didn't get the obvious hint, "Kiss me."
"Well, if you insist." He leans forward a little, and Shuuichi pulls him the rest of the way, until Rei is practically on top of him, their mouths melding together, Shuuichi's tongue against his sending sparks up Rei's spine.
It goes on for longer than Rei intends, because Rei can't quite find the motivation in him to pull away. When it does finally end, Shuuichi only smiles at him and says, "Now, the other one," his eyes darting over to Hiro at Rei's vaguely baffled expression.
Hiro's on his side, his head propped up on a hand as he watches them. He smiles when Rei looks at him, and reaches out to tug him over. "My turn."
Rei spends a lot longer in bed than he means to that morning.

♡ 58. "forever mine" kisses
When Shuuichi checks the tracker, he expects to find Rei's location to be Hiro's apartment building, or maybe one of his other friends – he'd gone to Matsuda the last time he ran away – but the tracking, instead, shows him near the docks of Tokyo Bay. So Shuuichi grabs his coat and jacket and heads out, the events of the previous hour playing on loop in his head the entire drive.
When he offered the divorce, he had thought Rei would be happy to finally, officially end their mission. But Rei had only looked at the papers before him, expression unreadable, and slowly, shakily, stood from his chair, taking his keys from the hook and walking out without a word. Shuuichi still isn't sure what to make of it. He's seen Rei angry plenty of times, and this wasn't that. This was… hurt. Shuuichi just doesn't know why.
He makes it to the docks in record time, finding Rei parked nearby, leaning against his car, his arms wrapped around himself, probably freezing. He looks up when Shuuichi's headlights draw near, but doesn't move otherwise.
Shuuichi leaves his car running, hoping they won't be out here too long, and grabs his coat from the passenger's seat, then steps out to meet him. As soon as he's close enough, he wraps the coat around Rei's shoulders, then pulls him into a hug, holding him as he shivers.
"How did you find me?" Rei mumbles into his shoulder.
Shuuichi hesitates, sure that this will lead to a fight, before answering, "I put a tracker on your car after last time." Rei will know what he's referring to.
He expects yelling or anger, but what he gets is a tired laugh. "Of course. You would do that."
Part of Shuuichi doesn't even want to bring it up, but he knows they have to talk. So, he forces himself to ask, "Why did you leave? Help me understand."
Rei sighs and sags against him. "I'm being dramatic. I'll sign the papers."
"Set the papers on fire, for all I care," Shuuichi replies, perhaps a little harshly, feeling the way Rei's breath hitches.
There's a long, quiet pause, though Shuuichi would swear he can hear Rei sniffling, almost silently, before Rei finally mutters, "I don't want a divorce." The words feel like a punch directly to Shuuichi's gut, in the best way possible. He lifts his head from Shuuichi's shoulder and pushes away, slipping his arms through the sleeves of Shuuichi's coat. "Isn't that stupid?" he asks, hugging himself. "Tooru is the one who married you, and he's not even real. Furuya Rei has nothing to do with this. But I don't want to lose you."
"It's not stupid," Shuuichi argues, reaching for him again, cupping his face. "Rei has everything to do with this. I don't want to divorce, either; I love you. And, yes, I love Tooru, too, because he's part of you, but when I think of my husband, it's Furuya Rei I think about."
"Then why even ask for a divorce?" Rei's voice comes out distressed, almost pleading.
Shuuichi smiles sadly back at him. "It was the agreement, wasn't it? If I thought for even a second it wasn't what you wanted, then I wouldn't have offered. It's not that I was asking for a divorce, but I wanted to give you your out."
"I don't want an out," Rei shoots back fiercely. "I want you."
Unable to resist his beautiful husband any longer, Shuuichi drags him in, kissing him until they're both breathless. "You have me," he promises. "For as long as you want me."
