Hairstyle Name: Hitotsu Hyougo (一つ兵庫) lit. “First Army Warehouse”

    This variation is one of the earliest forms of the Hyougo-mage, a style popular with actual courtesans until the late 17th century in the city of Edo. The origin of Hyougo name is unclear; possibly invented in or around some of the brothels in the city of Kobe. Later variations are easy to recognize as they have easily distinguishable parts, such as forelocks (前髪, maegami), back hair (髱, tabo), and sidelocks (鬢, bin).
