Some tips for hobbying while being cheap and neurodivergent:

If you, like me, pick up cool rocks and want to show them off and have cool terrain at the same time: glue them into cool piles on a piece of cardboard to make landmarks. People have been stacking large rocks in piles for millennia to mark trails and denote distances. And now everyone can see your cool rocks on the tabletop!

Do you ever worry about mixing up too much Green Stuff or Milliput? Have a leftover epoxy putty project. Don’t rush it, it’s just where you put all the leftover stuff. It doesn’t look like much now, but one day I’ll have a four armed, two headed Chaos Giant because I keep mixing up a little too much putty!

Do you ever want to do make statues for your terrain, but you don’t want to sacrifice a whole mini to make one? Glue extra horns and weapons onto Knights and Warriors style army men from the dollar stores! You’ll have some convincing statues after just a prime and a dry brush or two!

tips i learned as a 4yr writer . . . 📝

i.) don’t delete your drafts. just don’t, your motivation will thank you for your patience.

ii.) write what you’re thinking first, go back and revise/edit later.

iii.) writing is a very LONG process. have mercy on yourself, it will come when the time is ‘write’.

iv.) don’t be afraid to ask for help. sometimes, just a little more perspective can add that final piece of the puzzle.

v.) sit on it. you see it, just sit on it. even if it’s not a complete idea, just write it down and sit on it for a bit.

vi.) find your zone. do you write best during the day or night? cold or warm? phone or laptop? home or the small cafe up the street?

vii.) make use of your resources. look up those synonyms and different ways to phrase something.

viii.) understand what makes you a writer. it’s not about how fast you can dish out a chapter, and it’s not about how many words you can write. It’s about how much passion and effort you put into these stories, these tales, these alternate worlds outside of our own.

ix.) if it’s open to you, take a writing class. (if you can, meet the teacher prior to the class… sometimes teachers can be mood killers for classes with great potential.)

x.) learn to appreciate the internet. yes, it can be corrupting, but try to focus on the informative properties and the other positives!

xi.) don’t punish yourself because you haven’t written anything or made progress in x amount of days. the brain is functioning to keep you healthy.. so sometimes, writing isn’t what you need in that moment.

Are you ever building a model when suddenly *BAM* seam line on a cloak?!

Ew, that's not nice! But we can remove this easily using only 2 tools and 2 glues

A nail polish stick with multiple grits (mines a bit beaten up but it's fine), a hobby knife, Tamiya Extra Thin Cement and another one with bits of sprue added to make sprue goo, some patience for the glue to set is advisable too.

Step 1: Glue the parts together using sprue goo and use a little more where the seam is, then press firmly until some of the soft plastic pushes out then use normal Tamiya Glue to smear the bumps out which doesn't have to be perfect as seen here

Step 2: Go over the seam as if you're cleaning a mould line

Step 3: Sand it over to see where imperfections are and gently clean that with your hobby knife adding less pressure or..

Additional Step 4: Put sprue goo over it again and scrape and sand it down again until you're satisfied. Leaving you with a seamless cloak.

Quick and easy no greenstuff needed. I do again advice to wait for the glue to set other wise it'll tear off leaving ugly marks.

Hobby Tip: use make up brushes for quick an easy dry brishing on terrain pieces

Cause, realistically, who wants to spend that much time painting terrain anyways

I've been in this hobby for over a decade... and this is the first I've heard of warming up your msc before spraying it.

I was refilling my small pot of texture basing paint and thought i would share this tip with you guys.

3 years ago I bought 4 litres of medium house render for about $40. I have used this to cover a 6x4 table and various scenery as well as using it on bases and I have only used a touch over half of it!

I slop it on with a sculpting tool nice and thick and once dry give it a couple of coats of brown wash to give it a mud like look.

It also has the advantage of being able to build it up quickly and easily so miniatures like the Algoryn for Antares which has an integral base I can hide and roughly level the ground off with ease
