Malediction Studies (JJK based idea)
-> canonically speaking cursed objects do exist in canon as do cursed places. Think of the Horcrux locket for example, it radiates curse energy leaking magic passively too. Then we have the Chambers of Secrets, you could argue 12 Grimmauld Place also radiates negative energy. Azaban itself. Then you have blood curses or inherited curses, like the one of Astoria's or the Maledictus (which is a witch who carries a hereditary curse that eventually and irreversibly transforms them into a beast.) So, base on that, we can see that residual dark magic does contaminate the enviroment or object or even a person in canon. Here's where this degree comes in -> after centuries of conflits, war, tension, areas and even heirlooms are cursed from the residual dark magic used upon or in them. When this energy is not treated, it makes the residue spread faster until it manifests in different ways.
The down side -> the dropour rate is brutal for this major as you cannot fully shield yourself from what you're studying. Prolonged exposure to concentrated dark residue is corrosive to the caster's own mind and magic (just like the horcrux affected ron to become cruel and paranoid, and just like the curses ingestion made Geto slowly lose it's sanity). 5 years long degree
Core Years 1-2:
Residue Theory & Detection: sensing and grading dark magical contamination (a scale not unlike the creature X-rating, but for places/objects, e.g. "mild residual taint" up to "actively self-propagating")
Occlumency (mandatory, exam graded) -> non negotiable mental defense; failing this course twice gets you removed from the major.
History of Malediction case studies: Horcrux corruption patterns, Maledictus bloodlines, Azkaban's Dementor ecology, famous cursed objects
Containment Wardcraft I: basic sealing/binding charms and ward theory, used to box in a contaminated object or room before it's safe to study
Curse Breaking Fundamentals: how to disarm a curse on an object without triggering its payload
Specialisation (chosen at the end of your second year):
Warden Track (front line combat) Field response to active residue manifestations -> a haunted site spiraling out of control, a cursed creature born of accumulated dark magic, a contamination event that's started spreading. Yr 5 culminates in Sanctum Casting: an advanced, high risk technique where the caster erects an instantaneous pocket space ward around a contained threat and themselves (a combat-cast hybrid of the Fidelius Charm and Room of Requirement) -> This is the Domain Expansion equivalent, and it's graded pass/fail because a botched attempt risks the ward collapsing inward on the caster instead.
Maledictus & Afflicted Studies (medical/rehabilitative): Working directly with people carrying attached or inherited curses -> blood curses, scar curses, long term contamination victims.
Residue Research (academic): Cataloguing new contamination sites, studying how residue interacts with magical creatures (why do certain contaminated areas breed specific dark creatures?), and feeding findings to Ministry policy on containment law.
Careers: Gringotts curse breaker, Ministry Curse Response Unit (similar to Aurors but for curses only, typical job for the Warden track), St Mungo's Spell Damage healer, Azkaban containment staff (highest paying job but it's grim af), private contractor (clearing cursed manors/heirlooms for wealthy families who don't want the Ministry involved), Department of Mysteries researcher (Residue Research track)
Magical Healthcare
Core years: Magical anatomy, healing charms, potion based treatment, trauma response (curse damage, creature attacks). Specializations: Healer (general St Mungo’s track), spell damage specialist, magical psychiatry (splinching trauma, possession aftereffects, memory charm damage), pediatric specialist. Careers: St Mungo’s Healer, private practice.
Defence Studies
Core years: Defensive and counter attack, dark magic recognition (not casting but identification and defense), duelling. Specializations: Auror track, protective wards for private clients, magical creature defense. Careers: Auror, curse-breaker, private security, professor.

Faculty of Culture & Communication
Journalism & Communications
Specializations: Investigative journalism, propaganda/PR (Ministry press office, seen by some as a morally grey career path given it's chaotic nature), magical broadcasting. Careers: Daily Prophet reporter, Ministry spokesperson, WWN broadcaster, independent/underground press
Magical Arts

Usually the most dramatic performances come from the club, not the actual major Careers: Portrait painter, magical illustrator, textbook artist, WWN/entertainment industry, ballet dancer, orchestra, private musician for high profile balls
Enchanted Textiles & Design
Core years: Enchantment on fabric theory (self cleaning, self sizing, temperature regulating cloth), traditional crafts across the globe (pratical), design history across wizarding cultures (theory base). Specializations: Protective/functional wear (Auror robes, dragon hide processing, curse resistant fabric -> basically the clothes the Warden track people wear), high fashion and glamour craft (self tying bowties, mood changing cloaks, event wear), costume/theatrical enchantment Careers: Designer for a fashion house (which splits in multiple areas: from packaging, to actually making the dress, press, logistics etc..), protective gear manufacturer, costume enchanter, personal glamour consultant, designer for high paying clients (aka a private designer company that works strictly w high paying clients; celebreties and extremely rich purebloods).
