who up for valgrace yuri
Why is it just a collective fandom thing that we all draw Leo Valdez in a shirt and suspenders? It’s not like Nico’s aviator jacket- like it only mentions him wearing that outfit once, and it mentions more times about his army jacket and how that’s his favourite outfit because pockets so what’s with the suspenders? Why have we all just decided that that’s his thing? Even in fanarts where everyone else is in their chb t-shirts, Leo’s always wearing a white shirt with suspenders. It has become synonymous with his character at this point, and it’s almost hard to recognise him in fanarts where he’s not wearing them. Why is nobody talking about this???? Am I going crazy?? SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THE SUSPENDERS, GUYS????
Again on fandom misinterpretations:
Yes, Leo Valdez is skinny. He is by no means buff.
However, he is not weak.
He literally held (comfortably!) an 80 pound dragon head in his arms. That requires a lot of muscle.
So while he doesn't have visible, egg-sized biceps, that boy can definitely lift at least 120 pounds.
Find the nuance in characters, I beg you.
Woe, Valdangelo be upon ye

Day 18: Pet names
Pairing(s): Leo Valdez x Gn!Reader
TW: Genuinely cringey pet names
Divider Creds (in order): @/enchanthings, @/uzmacchiato
The Second Titan War, the Second Giant War, your life as a whole– it was all too much. You have seen friends, family, even strangers die before your eyes. And yet, the thing haunting you most wasn’t grief or the weight of the loss. It was your boyfriend, Leo.
You two had started dating after he returned to camp miraculously alive only to be whisked away again by none other than the now mortal god, Apollo. When he came back from that quest, he’d told you about a new place where you both could finally settle down. Somewhere you could try for the normal life you’d secretly dreamed of.
When you finally arrived, it didn’t take long to understand why Leo had fallen in love with the place. The people were kind, the community close knit, and for once, there was a sense of safety, something stable to build a life on.
It was all perfect, really, except for one tiny detail. Leo was still Leo.
It started one morning when you were about to leave for school. You had your bag slung over your shoulder, a half finished toast in one of your hands, and were about to shout goodbye to Jo or Emmie– whichever heard you first– when Leo appeared at the bottom of the stairs, seemingly ready for the school day.
“See you later, sunshine,” he said with his familiar grin.
You blinked, halfway out the door. “...Sunshine?”
He winked, which just weirded you out even more, and ran off to walk your usual route. “You brighten my day! Don’t be late!”
And then he was gone, just like that.
It was small, harmless, maybe even kind of sweet. You stood there for a second, thinking maybe it was his way of saying that he liked you without actually saying it. You smiled, a bit flustered, then hurried off to catch up with him. You brushed the warmth in your chest aside.
The warmth, as it turned out, should’ve been a warning.
By the next day, “sunshine” had turned into “my radiant beam of solar energy.”
Then “My Little Rotisserie Chicken.”
Then “My Little Expired Yogurt.”
It didn’t stop. It only got worse.
You were in the kitchen one morning, pouring cereal while Jo and Emmie cooked breakfast nearby. Leo came in humming, immediately beelining for you as if you had your own personal gravity.
“Morning, my Sugarplum Cutiepie.”
The spoon in your hand paused mid air. Emmie and Jo even stopped. Emmie’s eyebrows rose and Jo choked back a laugh.
“Leo,” you said slowly, “please tell me that wasn’t directed at me.”
He leaned his elbows on the counter, grin unbothered. “Who else would it be directed at? You’re the only Sugarplum Cutiepie in my life.”
Jo snorted so hard she had to turn away.
You dragged a hand down your face. “You’re insufferable.”
Leo only winked. “You love me.”
“Against my better judgment.”
But he didn’t stop there. No, Leo didn’t know how to stop.
By the end of the week, you’d been called “cuddle muffin,” “buttercup,” “pookie,” and, worst of all, “sweetcheeks of eternal sunshine.”
You’d been serenaded in the hallway with a wrench as his pretend microphone. You’d been greeted in front of Waystation residents as “Honeybuns extraordinaire.” You’d even found little notes hidden around the place with doodles and pet names written in barely legible handwriting.
One time, you’d walked into the living room, and Leo was sprawled across the couch dramatically.
“Ah, my dazzling bundle of emotional equilibrium returns!” he said, clutching his chest like some kind of Shakespearean actor. Part of you questioned how he was coming up with the over the top ones.
Emmie didn’t even look up from her book. “You’re lucky they haven’t strangled you yet.”
“Pfft,” Leo said, waving his hand dismissively. “They adore me. Don’t you, mi amor?”
You threw a pillow at him.
And yet, for all the times you’d rolled your eyes or muttered something about how annoying he was being, there was still that flicker of affection underneath it all. Because you knew him. You knew this was his way of keeping things light, and maybe even entertain you.
Still, he was playing with fire– figuratively and literally.
One afternoon, you were helping him in the workshop, handing him tools as he tightened bolts on some strange contraption you didn’t dare ask the purpose of.
“Pass me the wrench, my sparkling orb of endless warmth,” he said casually.
You blinked. “...Your what?”
“Wrench, please,” he said innocently, holding out his hand.
You smacked it into his palm. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”
He smirked. “You think I’m cute?”
“Don’t push it.”
You tried to stay serious, you really did. But after weeks of enduring every terrible nickname imaginable, it started getting hard to tell whether you wanted to strangle him or laugh.
By the time he called you “My Little Rotisserie Chicken” again, you were at your limit.
-
It was late, one of those quiet evenings where the Waystation residents were all busy doing something. Emmie was humming to herself in the kitchen, Jo was tinkering with the radio, and you were curled up on the couch, trying to read. Leo flopped down beside you, smelling faintly of smoke and grease like he always did.
“Hey, my little rotisserie chicken,” he said, leaning in close.
You closed your book with a slow, deliberate motion. “Leo.”
“Yes, my luminous potato of pure devotion?”
“That’s it,” you said, standing up.
He sat up, watching you with a mix of curiosity and amusement. “Uh oh. You’re using that tone.”
“You’ve been calling me the most ridiculous things for weeks. I think it’s time for payback.”
His grin faltered just slightly. “Payback?”
You leaned closer, mirroring his usual grin. “Yeah, Payback.”
At that, you left the living room and went to your room, leaving him confused. You’d strike again another day, when your victim was unsuspecting and unprepared.
Finally, the day came. Leo had seemed a little more restrained lately– maybe out of fear, maybe out of something else entirely– but today, you were back in the living room, idly flipping through a book while he tinkered nearby. He glanced up at you, clearly with a plan, and walked over. It wasn’t unusual for him to come over, but the way he lingered made you feel on guard.
“Hey…” he began, a little too cheerfully, “My delightful heap of infinite love?”
You froze mid page. That was it. The straw that broke the camel’s back.
You set the book down slowly, looking up at him with mock seriousness, letting your eyes linger just a fraction too long. And your lips formed the softest, most deliberate smile you could.
“Okay, sweetheart,” you said, your voice unusually gentle, almost convincing him that you weren’t joking at all.
Then, before he could even process it, you reached out and cupped his cheek, bringing him a little closer. Your thumb brushed lightly over his jaw, your palm warm against his skin. He froze instantly, eyes wide, caught off guard by the sudden closeness.
You leaned just slightly, your forehead brushing against his temple, and whispered softly, “I missed you, my love.”
Leo’s jaw went slack. His usual confident smirk vanished, replaced with a stunned, almost comical expression. His hands twitched at his sides, uncertain where to go, and then before you knew it, tiny flames flickered across his fingertips. They were bright, little bursts of fire, the kind that hadn’t happened since the very beginning of your relationship, when everything between you two was unpredictable and new.
“You… you– uh,” he stuttered, fumbling slightly as he tried to pull his hands back, “you can… say that?”
You couldn’t help it, you laughed. “Yes. I can. And I will. Especially if it makes you look like this.”
He groaned, fumbling, face flushing from ears to cheeks as he tried to distinguish the little flames that kept erupting from his palms. “I– uh– I’m… you’re… this is… unfair!”
“So you can dish it but can’t take it?,” you said, grinning, your fingers still lightly holding his cheeks, “You’ve spent weeks calling me the most ridiculous things imaginable. I think I’m owed one moment of fun.”
Leo groaned again, but it was mixed with a laugh that was a bit breathless and a bit flustered. He leaned back slightly, trying to regain some composure, but his hands were still fidgeting with something you couldn’t quite make out. “You’re evil,” he admitted.
“Maybe,” you teased,“but it’s also kind of cute. You’re cute like this.”
That earned you a groan and an embarrassed sputter. “I’m not cute.”
You only laughed again, especially given that he had received that compliment in stride a few weeks back. You reached over to gently take both of his hands in yours, guiding them down from his face. “Alright, truce?” you asked.
“Truce?” He looked cautiously hopeful, his face still pink.
“Yes,” you said. “No more ridiculous pet names for now. At least, not the bad ones. We shake on it?”
He hesitated, then smiled shyly, holding out a hand. “We shake.”
You grasped his hand firmly, and for a moment, you just looked at each other, laughing quietly at the absurdity of it all.
Then, leaning up, you pressed a soft kiss to his forehead.
His eyes went wide, ears and cheeks flaming redder, and he stuttered, “I– uh…”
You only chuckled, resting your forehead against his temple. “It’s okay, Leo.… at least until the next petname war.”
He shook his head, a small, shy smile creeping over his face. “You’re impossible,” he muttered, and the flames on his hands fizzled out, leaving him warm, flushed, and utterly defeated.
“Maybe,” you admitted, “but you love me anyway.”
He exhaled slowly, finally relaxed, and leaned into you. The two of you just sat there in the quiet comfort of the living room, laughter lingering between you.
Maybe, just maybe, a little chaos in the form of pet names wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
