Are baos the new trend nowadays? #throwback My first bao was from Da Bao, non halal essential😌 After trying that twice, decided to try halal baos from @thebaoguys With a full stomach we tried: Big Boy Meal (RM45.90/ USD 11.5) - includes 3 baos, add on fried oyster mushroom. Baos selected : Chuck Norris (Black bun)- fried chicken with yummy sauce. thought this'd be my favourite, but isn't. Tad bit dry even with sauce. If you have this one, you could probably skip the fried mushrooms sides, unless they have some sauce for the mushrooms then it wouldn't be so dry. Pho-king good- is fawking good. That tinge of sourness, vinegar marinated onion opens up our appetite nicely, along with the tender pulled beef. Kinda what we need very refreshing, 2nd favourite Beef Be With You - our favourite among these 3. we love us some fried baos that's outrageously good with the marinated beef slices. Crispy outer bao layer with flavourful beef center. Fried mushroom (add on)- I like that it's a delicate flavour low-carb (well, fried so carbs still 😂) option instead of the typical fries, since bao is already carb-enough. Really crispy, taste wise slight bland & dry, I was looking for the texture contrast. Crispy both inside and outside abit too salty. The juicy and tender natures on the inside was not retained. Could improve maybe with slight powder seasoning choices (original, sichuan pepper, 5 spices etc), or comes with sauce so it's not so dry. TBG chicken poppers (RM8.90) - nothing too memorable , by this time it’s really dry if you order fried chicken bao, fried oyster mushroom and fried chicken cubes(our mistake). Choose wisely. Overall the bao is not bad 3 baos would serve as a decent meal, 1 bao would be a snack. Will I visit again? Yes still need to try other baos. Also, would love to try oyster mushrooms again hope it's better than my first opinion. Any kaki onz? #throwbacktuesday Lockdown 3.0 is kind of the best time to try bakeries too since don’t you always want to try abit of everything from a bakery shop? First visit @good.ground.bakery tucked at quiet suburban SS17, cause pass by, decided to add on into tapaoventures of MCO 3.0 Let’s talk about pastries: Carrot 🥕 cake - or carrot muffin it seems. Lemony soft cream cheese, cake texture is per what you expect of a carrot cake, though you can’t find carrot shreds. That tinge of lemon citrus taste in cream cheese makes it a good balance. Sea salt brownie (RM10)- love the fudge center. You can see for yourself on one of the pic . Sea salt balance out the sweetness, very soft crumbly butter base. 👍🏼fudge without heating up. Raspberry almond tart (RM10) - 4 raspberries nestled inside the frangipane (sweet almond paste) enjoyed the buttery crumbly crust. When you taste pastries made w butter, ya know pastries be good. Pecan cinnamon bun( RM 18)- chewy bun texture, not for me nothing to shout about this one it’s mediocre. cinnamon taste is there. I felt it was abit bland overall. Butter pecan cookies (RM 35?) - for a small size it’s not a lot, however the fragrant butter smell of the cookies justify the price . I guess there’s a lot of butter. Also pecans here aren’t cheap. Crusty crumbly texture, dough done right. 👍🏼 When you taste all these pastries could tell these beauties are made using a good amount of butter. I remember spending like close to RM 100 bucks here (93+) think had some other stuff too someone else ate it so I can’t comment the taste. My wallet just *cries* next post will be on the interior/ pricing. Would I return? A burger or a sandwich ? First pic is always the highlight . Menu on 4th pic. Had a 4 hour+ lunch here back in April. Let’s talk about the food : Beef tongue sandwich - I’m not usually one that eats animal tongue but this one is exceptional . Beef tongue nicely executed soft yet flavourful, smoked to perfection. tender packed with good amount of salt/ flavours. (Dijon mustard ) sauerkraut? Whole grain mustard? Some amount of sourness goes perfectly with the salted smoked meat and buttery soft brioche buns. 👍🏼⭐️ Mackerel pate with eggplant chips - chives complements the smoky flavoured pate. Eggplant chips are soft rather than crispy . Don’t enjoy the chewy texture. However pate is good. 👍🏼 Smoked eggplant - garnished with curry leaves . honestly there’s more smoked taste in the upper 2 dish . Couldn’t taste much jackfruit in hummus, just hummus. Flavours are weak. Hummus + eggplant is a very mushy texture result. Presentation could improve. Chicken poppers - drizzled in hot sauce. Much needed sauce, otherwise too dry for my palate. Batter: Could taste fermented shrimp paste taste in its cincalok batter. Soft batter. Meat: just chicken meat, juicy succulent meat, that’s it. Would be better if the meat is marinated in cincalok itself . Fried chicken sandwich - good, gribiche sauce (take a quick google) goes well with cincalok fried chicken. Adding a slice of cheese (Edam? Possibly?) blankets chicken well with the sauce and buttery soft pillow brioches 👌🏼 . Same fried chicken style as chicken poppers. Overall - sandwiches are the highlight along with the pate( not the chips ). Lunch menu here is very limited , dinner is better , slightly more options . Portions are small. If you’re a big eater suggest you to eat something first then come here otherwise you’ll order everything. Tapaoventures over the weekend. Fresh ikura and salmon sashimi from @topcatchfisheries Pretty fresh, been staying fresh for a few years now . Top catch is getting more popular nowadays - seeing there is a second branch in taman Megah. Used to go to the OUG - think that was first . Salmon sashimi (Rm25-30 i didnt notice) has been my go-to when you have cravings, freshness has stayed consistent . But I think price wise it has increased slightly over time. Or maybe now we have a lot more selections from different sellers to choose from. First time trying ikura (RM 25/ USD 6) from here , as good quality as Isetan KLCC ones (my go-to for ikura, those ikura that pops and melts in your mouth, bliss) Et voilà salmon sashimi bowl, just add a couple chunks of rice and some seaweed to top. Warm bowl of beef soup is good for rainy days comfy for your stomach too - Pre MCO 3.0 food . Not gonna lie I’m super Skeptical when i saw this cafe style looking beef noodle spot. (I’m always skeptical on cafe food 🙃) I mean, yo beef noodles is classic msian Chinese that the best is always found in hawker kinda areas. @beefbowl_my proof that I was wrong though. This post consist of 2 visits. First few pics is mixed beef, beef ball bowl ( RM 15.9”/ USD 4) . First visit . Dumbstruck with how good it is. the green chilli goes so well. Could add chilli flakes if you want . The later pics are Mixed beef, beef ball, tendon and tripe bowl (RM 18.90 / USD 5), the parts is good for health. Soft, easy to bite . But this visit didn’t have enough soup, I felt would be better if more soup was in the bowl. Overall the taste is still rich flavourful. Both bowls come with radish cylinder cubes. Soft easy to bite . Both visits soup is equally flavourful, but more soup would have been better. Note: in my opinion, it’s more of a Thai beef noodle soup kinda taste cause as you see the coriander + chilli flakes results in a very rich Thai spices soup base taste and you get to choose rice noodles. Overall the price is of course more than your average hawker store beef noodles.
