Happy pride month from my Hero's Vessel boys :) These are labels that I'm using as I write them and imagine them, not necessarily ones that they use themselves. I had so much fun drawing these headshots goodness gracious look how CUTE.

Alby: intersex, because... He's a statue. He was carved and came to life with clothes on. He got them carved off later and had to make several Decisions. He's never thought of himself as anything other than a man, though he might have some interesting things to say about humanity and gender if the question occurred to him. He's currently in a romantic relationship with Ignac, the man who took over the studio of his original sculptor.

Beast: I'm undecided! To quote a friend, he's into guys sometimes. But not all the time. He does grieve what he thinks he and Midna could've had, but he does want a partner someday, probably a woman.

Clay: bisexual, he flirts around a fair amount but hasn't ever let himself think he'd pick someone to stay with forever.

Doll: genderfluid, trans, and straight. He/they/she at like a 85/10/5 ratio. Exclusively into women (almost, anyway) and honestly doesn't think about it much. Good friends with the LBW Zelda, they're warming up to each other and are pretty sure they'll be married.

Oak: trans, bi. Trans mostly because he came out of a forest and Zelda called him "he" so he shrugged and adopted it. There are so many capable and confident people around him in the knighthood post-adventure. Help him.

Sheik: agender, aroace. He has so many best friends and the idea of picking just one baffles him.

Hero's Vessel Oak was pretty and I liked the way his face was massed with tree bits, so I got deeper into it. For funsies. ALso did his back, and while I haven't coloured it yet, Zarvasace did! Under the cut, because it's a full back shot with a bit more obvious body horror than this.

Don't worry about the part where it's inserted into his skin around his spine. That's no big deal! Definitely not vital to his health by now or anything...

Late, but have some art for Trans Day! These are the characters I have that are explicitly trans in-text. (Others in different AUs may be, but I don't generally make firm decisions about gender or sexuality. I did for all the pathfinder AU though, which is why there are so many there.)

Because I want to, descriptions of each character below the cut. Left to right, top to bottom:

Linked Nexus Time: Time: ftm trans. grew up on a planet that didn't really care about gender expression and just generally landed in an ambiguous he/him space.

Linked Nexus Wild: intersex, doesn't remember his childhood but does prefer a masculine presentation.

Pathfinder Chain Sky: afab intersex! Chose a masculine presentation partly because his culture is woman-led and he didn't feel up to the task of leading like that

Pathfinder Chain Four: amab nonbinary but goes with he/him pronouns partly because he jist doesn't care. Specific colors might be different genders but I didn't get into that.

Pathfinder Chain Twilight: ftm trans, actually a sentient wolf. Figured out shapeshifting into a half-elf partially for trans reasons.

Pathfinder Chain Wild: ftm, not physically transitioned at all

Pathfinder Chain Warriors: ftm trans, joined the military of his country partially to gain access to and earn money for a sex change potion, of which he's taken several as he settles into himself.

Percy Jackson AU Twilight: ftm trans, spent decades in the Hunters of Artemis before leaving peacefully.

Hero's Vessel Doll: genderfluid. Had to replace his pelvis with a porcelain recreation, chose something sexless. Masculine most days, feminine sometimes.

Hero's Vessel Alby: uh. Carved as a male statue, never saw himself as anything other than male, but he did get his clothes carved off at some point and had to pick what was going on, picked female.

Hero's Vessel Oak: ftm, similar to LN Time just in the "didn't grow up with gender, settled into mostly masculine eventually."

Bad End Links Aconite: very intentional ftm, enchanted a series of gems that acted as puberty blockers from a preteen age.

Bad End Links Acon's Zelda: mtf, Aconite gave her the same sort of enchantments a little while after making his own when she decided she wanted them.

Oak

Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask

19 years (26 if you count the extra 7 he did and didn't live), 5'4" (163 cm)

Hero's Vessel Masterpost

An illness as a child left Oak with hemiplegia on his left side—the Hero's Spirit possessed him from birth, and its magic gave Oak the ability to absorb some tree and brace what he had left. Since then, some of him might have been cannibalized by the tree, but it isn't like he's really checking. His tree parts need water and sunlight, and he can manipulate their shape given some time and energy.

Oak is more confused than offended when people react to him negatively, but he's learned that hiding his... less-than-human traits means that people react more positively. He's largely content with who and what he is. It can be difficult to hide, but he tries sometimes, for others' comfort.

After the rather traumatic events of Majora's Mask, Oak went home and, after getting a bit older again, eventually joined up with Hyrule's military, gaining knighthood due to his unusual skills. He's been living with other knights in and around the castle, occasionally going to battle in the war that's brewing. He's eager to help, but usually keeps to himself, which to others gives him a sense of ~mystery~ but means that he's failed to form any really significant attachments to anyone.

Oak's tree gets a little stiff in the cold. He also loses his leaves in the winter. Sorry my guy.

Wait in Hero's Vessel AU, how would Oak use Din's Fire? It's literally necessary to use to get into the Shadow Temple, but wouldn't his plant side go up in flames too?

Hey good thought!! :D I do actually have an answer for this.

First, Oak's tree is living wood, so more difficult to catch on fire. Second, the spell expands outward quickly, and doesn't catch any of Link's clothes or hair, so I'd assume that the heat when it's nearby isn't enough to be dangerous. Not that the spell couldn't be misused.....
