not technically a paraphilia, but i thought this was related: i just saw someone try to use someone’s hypersexuality to indict them as a predator. this isn’t the first time i’ve seen this and it likely won’t be the last. i’ve had hypersexual behavior as long as i can remember, and it’s one of the hardest things i’ve ever had to deal with. it’s not fun, it’s not hot, it just makes me feel like sexual activity is the only thing i’m worth, and being seen as a predator because of my trauma does nothing to help.
i guess what i’m trying to say is, even if a lot of the recent discourse comes from people with good intentions (calling out groomers and predatory behavior), it hurts a lot of people with sexual trauma who don’t have palatable symptoms, like people with paraphilias or hypersexuality. which especially sucks because a lot of us have trauma from the exact people the discoursers are trying to protect us from, so it feels like we’re just doomed to repeat the cycle
This is purity culture, ableism, and paramisia.
Yeah, it's really disheartening how people treat those they deem as "sexual deviants." Trauma and neurodivergence can cause hypersexuality, and so can certain physical conditions, as well as certain intersex variations (especially ones that impact sex hormones.)
Deeming anyone as a "predator" based on their sexual desires is just straight up bigotry. Being a predator indicates that you are victimizing other people. Being hypersexual and/or a paraphile does not make you victimize people.
