Since it's breast cancer awareness month, let's remember that intersex people with hyperestrogenism* have a higher risk for breast cancer! I'm saying this because the general population has a severe lack of awareness on intersex people and intersex traits.

*In basic terms, hyperestrogenism simply means that someone naturally has more estrogen in their body than is typical for a person with their overall sex traits. (Without the use of HRT, that is)

Genuine question because I'm figuring things out:

Why is PCOS considered an intersex condition and not a dysex condition?

Because it causes variations in the sex hormones. You may be operating under the (incorrect) assumption that the hormone disruptions come from the cysts, which is not the case (and - despite its name - not all people with PCOS actually get ovarian cysts, nor do all people with PCOS have ovaries.)

PCOS comes from the body - either the endocrine or reproductive system - producing more or less hormones than expected (hypergonadism or hypogonadism.)

PCOS has very little difference from all other hormonal intersex variations (especially NCAH, which it is commonly misdiagnosed for) in terms of where the hormones (or lack thereof) are being produced.

Fuck people who say that a 'male' with hyperandrogenism isnt intersex, or a 'female' with hyperestrogenism "isn't intersex."

Fuck people who say that hypoandrogenism or hypoestrogenism "isn't intersex."

Fuck people who say that the agenital spectrum or people with absent/small/underdeveloped reproductive organs/gonads "aren't intersex."

Fuck people who say that duplicated or extra primary sex traits "aren't intersex."

Fuck people who say that Turner syndrome (or any other chromosomal variation) "isn't intersex."

Anyone with naturally developed genital, reproductive, hormonal, or chromosomal variations is intersex.

Intersex is a sociopolitical identity, not just a diagnosis. Doctors and the community disagree with each other on what it means to be intersex. Doctors are far behind and taught to be intersexist. They are taught to diagnose any sex variation as a disorder, deformity, or defect, rather than diagnosing it as "intersex."

Idk if this counts but people being grossed out by stretch marks.

90% of AFAB people end up with stretch marks and 40% of AMAB people get stretch marks in their life.

It’s a very common type of scar yet so many people are disgusted by them or are ashamed.

This is lookism, which is closely tied to deformimisia/disfiguremisia.

(Gentle note: "AFAB/AMAB" are not good terms to use here. AFAB/AMAB only describe birth certificates, they don't tell anything about a person's anatomy or legal status.

You are referencing statistics that use "male" and "female" terminology, which isn't actually categorized based on birth certificates. A lot of intersex people AFAB are later reassigned male in their childhood, and a lot of intersex people AMAB are later reassigned female in their childhood. Thus, some AMAB people are categorized under the "female" statistic, and some AFAB people are categorized under the "male" statistic.

The better way to phrase this would be "90% of people legally categorized as "female" and 40% of people legally categorized as "male" get stretch marks in their life."

On the note of intersexuality, fun fact - People with hyperestrogenism [an intersex trait that causes high levels or high responsivity to estrogen] are more likely to get stretch marks and cellulite, due to how estrogen affects the skin.)
