After seeing Mystic Flour's "thousand-armed" attack and Burning Spice's "giant foot"
I think the Beasts might symbolize the five parts of the witch's human body and suspected that DE might be harboring the intention of using the Beasts to become a full-fledged witch
The parts of the human body that the Beasts represent include:
“Noa didn't know that the images in his head while he slept were dreams”
What if Noa feels many things but doesn’t know how to name them?
Could Mae be the one to teach him the names of the emotions he feels, among other things?
****
“It all means something and yet nothing to me” (Stranger like me - Phil Collins)
I’ve mentioned that it's good for both Noa and Mae to have had crushes before so they can recognize their attraction to each other.
I was told it would make sense with Mae. Because if she hadn't fallen in love before, it would lead to confusion. But if she knows what a crush feels like, it would give us more room for a sense of alarm.
Especially considering that this time, her romantic interest would be an ape, supposedly the beasts she wants to defeat.
Now, let's talk about Noa. The same should apply to him. BUT...
Remember the deleted scene:
<<Noa didn't know what dreams were.>>
That makes me think Noa doesn’t know many things, actually. He feels them, sees them, but can’t name them all.
Which creates an opportunity for Mae to explain/teach him things. Like a guide or teacher.
Because who else would he talk to?
Noa knows she knows a lot of things. And he’s very curious.
They just need to break that barrier where Mae doesn’t want to show him much. Give her a sign of trust.
But once Noa can identify his feelings, then he’ll be able to differentiate what he feels for Soona. Whether it’s platonic or something more romantic.
I like that more.
Hence, he could point out that his thing with Soona is platonic.
The point is that Noa can express his feelings to show that the apes are evolving by leaps and bounds. And that they just need guidance.
The “Dark Forest Hypothesis” is a scary answer to the Fermi paradox. It says advanced alien civilizations may stay quiet and hidden, because any species that reveals its location could get wiped out by older, paranoid civilizations that see strangers as a threat.
first things first, great movie. love the blood. i NEED to see a CBC and PBS. are there any spherocytes in there???
i like the idea that the light is an anglerfish or something similar trying to draw Simon in to his doom
i like the idea that the light is a portal (back to the actual world? to the afterlife?) even more
"I see you"
the lines between science and spirituality and psychosis blur so much. i love it. were we hearing the souls of the dead or just Simon's hallucinations? is the blood a hallucinogenic? a parasite?
the blood grew plants? fungus?? but it gave off oxygen! the blood gave off life! in a universe with no planets, no stars, life still goes on- even if it isn't in humanity's best interest
someone give me a theory to connect everything please and thank you
Is it possible Riddler has OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive PERSONALITY Disorder)? I’m not saying he doesn’t have OCD as well, but I’m also not ruling out the possibility of him having been misdiagnosed (at least for some versions). I actually have a few reasons for this theory.
1. OCD mostly involves distressing and unwanted intrusive thoughts. OCPD is mostly involves a need for control. And as we know, Edward is a VERY controlling person. He plans everything out, always has plan after plan, has been know to have contingency plans, and when things don’t go his way or he doesn’t understand or know something (he wants to be in control of the information and knowledge he has) he breaks down.
2. With OCD, the symptoms are connected to anxiety and tend to fluctuate with it. With OCPD, it’s a persistent issue. And Edward’s compulsion for riddles and need for control don’t seem to ever really “turn off” or ebb and flow. There’s never really a less and more with those traits, at least no instances I’ve noticed.
3. A common symptom of OCPD is perfectionism. OCD (at least in my experience) doesn’t necessarily manifest into perfectionism. It’s something similar to perfectionism, but not quite.
4. People with OCD tend to be more aware of when their thoughts and behaviors are excessive, and they usually don’t like when it’s a problem. People with OCPD don’t tend to be as self aware. They see no problem with their behaviors, and view it as perfectly rational. It’s tied to their own self-perception and values. This one could actually go either way. Most of the time, Edward doesn’t seem to think there’s anything wrong with him, and sure that could be tied to his NPD, but there have been times when he negatively responds to the very suggestion that there’s ANYTHING wrong with him or that he’s “crazy”. He can’t handle criticism, refuses to acknowledge ANY of his flaws, doesn’t like being viewed as anything less than perfect and admirable. But… there have been the occasional moments of… clarity? Vulnerability? Honesty with himself? Moments where he realizes he’s obsessive (does he view this as a flaw or a strength?), moments when he’s tired and wants to stop, moments when he wonders if he’s actually crazy, moments when he genuinely wants help. Of course, comorbidity is possible.
5. OCPD symptoms can include a lack of emotional empathy as well. Edward is usually not depicted as an especially empathetic person. But again, this could just be the NPD, or literally any of the other disorders he probably (realistically) has (albeit undiagnosed).
6. Craving control as a means of safety/as a defense mechanism from discomfort/perceived flaws/inadequacies. As I’ve mentioned before, Edward has a very high opinion of himself, stemming from a superiority complex to hide just how broken he really is. He doesn’t like attacks on his character (narcissistic injury). He doesn’t want to be perceived negatively. Even as a bad guy, he wants to be viewed as the BEST villain. He also grew up will very little control himself. His parents hated him, his dad beat him and called him stupid, he was frequently bullied and beaten even more. He was never safe. Whenever he tried to change things, it only made his situation worse. He had no control over any of it or how it would turn out for him. So Edward having a defense mechanism based on control seems well within the realm of possibility.
7. Prone to fixation on a single idea, task, or belief. Edward’s obsessed with a few things, all interconnected. He’s obsessed with riddles, riddles he uses to try and outsmart Batman, who he’s obsessed with defeating. Occasionally he’ll find another fixation, but the point is that he can’t just be casual about any of them, he becomes obsessed to a very unhealthy degree. This type of fixation can typically manifest itself into a sort of unhealthy workaholic nature, which Edward has displayed multiple times. The trait can also interfere with the interpersonal relationships of the person with OCPD. Edward typically doesn’t really excel in forming and maintaining interpersonal relationships. He doesn’t really have friends, or much luck in romance. There’s no evidence to suggest this particular trait is the reason WHY he has no friends or a consistent partner. This is mostly because he’s never shown to have anyone he’s particularly and consistently emotionally close to to begin with, and any love interest he has never lasts longer than one or two issues, and we rarely see why they don’t work out. But that lack of information means it can’t be proven that this trait *ISN’T* the reason either. Since most comics tend not to really show us much in terms of Edward’s relationships, there’s very little information to work with.
Anyway, those are just some of the reasons I believe there’s a likely possibility that Riddler has OCPD. But I am more than open for this to be a discussion and hearing your opinions on the matter.
i think kinger and queenie were the original creators who went into the game in order to stay tg forever (one of them had a terminal illness?) and they made a little ai assistant (caine), but when queenie abstracted kinger went crazy and caine, being an assistant, took over the circus
A few years ago I had some builds of some of the various Rahi I'd assembled sitting around on my desk and I was idly messing around with the fish one day and came to a sudden realization that wasn't really obvious looking at the builds digitally: the larger one naturally has its head angled up, and combining that with the smaller one also having a gap between its front rod and the ground made me wonder if some sort of fishing mini game wasn't planed for these designs.
I got a Gali hook and tried it out, and it worked surprisingly well!
Another thing that made me really interested in the idea of fishing as an intended game was this image from a Quest for the Masks card game manual that featured a bunch of Ga-Koronans fishing with rods for a lost staff and mask. The idea that this game seemed to exist enough to have been featured in official renders was very interesting to me.
I made a quick mock-up of what a Bionicle fishing rod could be like, but that was as far as it went.
Recently I've been getting in to the wonderful world of non-major named brand brick parts, and I found how to buy individual parts for pretty cheap. This kinda revitalized my interest in the fish, as up to this point this is the best I could do colour wise:
But now thanks to ali express.....
The tiny fish is quite neat in that every single part it uses is currently available in a multitude of colours. I even went and used black low friction pins to show off. Honestly the cam part they make is closer to the original part available back in 2001 compared the the current official one.
I was also able to finally finish the larger fish. It required tan and red painting, both of which I was a bit trepidatious about, so seeing that they had the parts I needed in the colours I needed was fun.
Also had a lot of spare parts after so I managed to make a couple extra in light green.
And this really motivated me to finally try out some ideas for the fishing game I'd been thinking about for a while. I made a couple rods.
One has a simple winch builtin to it, while the other features a more fixed design, like what you would see in other similarly scaled children's fishing toys. This was an artistic decision, not driven by me lacking the parts to do another winch.
They work pretty well! The smaller fish are harder, there's more of a knack to it, so logically they'd be worth more, just like real fishing.
The larger fish also can be reconfigred to be more or less difficult, with their tail being able to angle them up and down and their front fins can be positioned to stick their head in the air.
Also features some alternative ways of being caught!
Its quite fun once you mess around with it for a bit. The winch rod can also function as a difficulty slider, as the longer the string is the harder it is to control.
She needs a smaller shark.
Feels quite good to get this thing that's been floating around in my head realised in some form.
Since its a new year I'd also like to point out how, starting with this post in July of 2023, I've managed to do at least 1 post of some substance a month, even if its a joke that only I find funny. I think that's quite an accomplishment personally, that's 31 months! It started with me doing a whole year without noticing it, but since then I haven't really forced it. I'll occasionally schedule a post for a few days later to get in in the next month if one month already has a few (definitely not writing this post in 2025 no siree...).
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here's a video of me accidentally throwing a hook at a fish.
