I have been going to the Vidant Cancer Center in Greenville, NC since Jan 2019. I started in February 2019 doing outpatient treatments in the Infusion Center, located in the Cancer Center. During this time I have met people who are outstanding, caring, loving, and who have become not just friends but family. I call them my Cancer Family. I want to bless them with a Pack it Pocket to show them how much their support of us, all their patients, means. They deal with us when we are often at our worst, either due to learning we have this horrible disease, or we may be having bad days, or we may even be at our last days...they still smile at us, they still cheer us on, they still pray for us and with us, or they hold our hand. They answer questions over and over again. They watch us and at times can do nothing but watch as we struggle to deal with our new reality. But still they are THERE. They try to make us laugh, they ask about our families, our lives, they end up taking a piece of each of us with them. This is more than a job to them, it's a calling. I see it when I go. I feel it when I'm there. I hear it in their voices. I watch it in their actions. So I'd like to show them that WE see them. We may not always give them grace, in fact we as patients are often short with them, rude, ugly, angry and yet they take it and smile at us. For that I want them to KNOW that they are loved. That they are special. That they are more than HEROES. I couldn't do what they do, day in and day out. So I'm coming to you my very special VIP group and anyone else who wants to help will help me show them this. Help me give them a little bit of love in the form a Pack it Pocket filled with goodness! My goal is 30 for the Infusion Center, however I'd love to get 100 so I can give one to the rest of the team at the cancer center, the check in desk staff, labs and if we can get to it the people in radiation.
