Botti vai ihminen

Ennen asiakkaita palvelivat ja kysymyksiin vastasivat yksinomaan ihmiset. Nykyään monissa verkkokaupoissa ihmisiä palvelevat ensisijaisesti chatbotit.

Chat-robotin hyvät ja huonot puolet

Chat-botissa on paljon hyviä puolia. Se antaa vastauksen yleisimpiin kysymyksiin nopeasti ja kuluttamatta turhia resursseja. Se säästää työntekijöiden aikaa ja yrityksen rahoja. Sitä ei haittaa, vaikka asiakas olisi töykeä ja vihainen. Chatbottia ei voi loukata. Boteista löytyy kuitenkin myös paljon huonoja puolia. Ihminen asiakaspalvelijana on tuttu ja turvallinen vaihtoehto, josta löytyy paljon hyviä puolia ja vain vähän huonoja. Ihminen osaa vastata muihinkin kuin ennalta määriteltyihin kysymyksiin, ja se osaa tarvittaessa hakea tietoa kysymykseen liittyen. Moni kokee ihmisen palvelun miellyttävämpänä ja parempana kokemuksena. Ihminen ei anna niin helposti väärää tietoa vaikeammissa kysymyksissä. Ihminen asiakaspalvelijana vie kuitenkin paljon yrityksen resursseja ja vaatii enemmän huolenpitoa ja koulutusta. Ihminen voi myös loukkaantua kaltoinkohtelusta.

I really, really wanted to use the word I personally use for stepladders here, ’emännänjatke’(*), but then I would’ve had to change the joke that comes after, so I went with a more common word for it that kept the dialogue close to the original. While researching this I found many other Finnish words for stepladders: porrastikkaat (stair ladder), tasotikkaat (level ladder), porrasjakkara (stair stool), tikasjakkara (ladder stool), keittiötikkaat (kitchen ladder), taloustikkaat (household ladder), keittiöporras (kitchen stair), aputikas (aid ladder), tikastuoli (ladder chair), emännänjatko (continuation of the lady of the house), there are some differences in the expected size of the ladder between these, but wow I didn’t expect this to be such a rabbit hole. (*) extension of the lady of the house, this refers to women usually being too short to reach upper shelves in the house by themselves, the first base word is a bit interesting here: emäntä (lady of the house/hostess, basically the woman in charge of a household space, or an event, or anything related to feeding others. It’s a leading role with authority. In casual talk it can also mean ’wife’ or women in general, with a respecting tone.) isäntä (man of the house/host, basically male version of ’emäntä’) emä (mother, could refer to a human too if you’re being silly, but it’s mostly used with farm/wild animals, specifically mammals) isä (father) äiti (mother, usually refers to a human/humanlike mother)

If Papyrus’ second to last line was directly translated to Finnish it’d have a bit of a crass double meaning. ’Munat’(eggs) is close to the word ’balls’ in English, it’s a layman’s name for testicles. And ’munat ulkona’(eggs out) is a common phrase for having genitalia out in the open or being completely naked. Even though the eggs are right there to indicate that he’s talking about them and not the other thing, it still looked wrong to me, so I changed it to ’munat poissa talosta’([keep] the eggs away from the house).

If any of you are learning Finnish and worried about not understanding Temmie there, it’s ok dun wory. From what I understand of how Temmies talk in English (teenager chat talk, right..?), it’s very close to how Sans, Undyne, and sometimes Alphys already speak Finnish in these translations, it would just have spelling mistakes and numbers mixed in or something, so I took a different approach. There are several dialects in Finland and I’m not able to speak any one of them properly, Temmie here is demonstrating how they look and sound to me. There should be at least two separate ones mixed in there (Savo and Turku area).
