Damn, 4 weeks of consistent updates??? Yeah, I'm definitely procrastinating other things 🤡
Words written: 8,258 (prologue - part 4)
Previous week's goal: Outline part 8, evaluate story and determine how close I am to the end. Start drafting part 3.
What actually occurred last week: Since I had outlined 8 parts but misnumbered the scenes, I actually was on part 9, not 8. Also, I reworked part 8 a lil bit. Writing wise, I drafted parts 3 and 4.
Plan of attack for the upcoming week: Outline part 9, the LAST PART OF THIS FREAKIN' PROJECT (I consulted myself and she said yea). Reach 10k milestone. If time permits, see if I can draft parts 6-9. Which...time probably won't b/c I'll be with my family lol.
I feel like the finished project might be anywhere between 12-18k words, which is cool. This is a kinetic experience, and my first at that, so not too shabby.
On Ellipsus: It's a solid program, but it really isn't Google Docs and I mean that with love and with panic. I haven't use them yet, but the focus and timer are awesome tools to have. I love dark mode, I love the template options that can be used for all kinds of writing projects. I really like how customizable the site is, and I suspect they'll be a beast once they get a working app.
On the flip side, the search word/phrase feature is a thorn in my side, it doesn't work more than it does. I'm not a fan of the comment feature only working on the draft page and not on the original document (like G-Docs). I'm still salty about the lack of other import options (markdown is okay but losing my formatting along the way is very much NOT.) I've said it before, but Ellipsus is not very kind if you're importing from elsewhere. I'm very glad I started this project and others here instead of trying to bring them over from G-Docs and crying myself into a headache 😂
Additional thoughts, feelings, emotions, complaints: Once Love, Fighter is completely drafted and I can read it from top to bottom, this is gonna be a great project to have in my back pocket. I'm looking ahead to 2026 and I'm sure the Black VN Jam and maybe a second game jam will catch my eye. But I really plan to make next year the final push to finish HSD. I want finished routes and to commission my sprite artist for all the things the game needs.
But I know I get antsy sometimes when working, or HSD 2 just beats my brain to a pulp, so having a project that I already don't have plans to put on the HBG banner will be a nice safety net LOL!
That concludes this week's update! Next Sunday will be the last day of this experiment and we'll get to see how successful I truly was in this endeavor and MAYBE if I'll do something similar next November.
