Crawl Micro Review - An estranged father and daughter become trapped in their family home hunted by alligators as a Category 5 hurricane approaches. Crawl is a wonderful example of genre storytelling fully accomplishing what it sets out to be - a creature feature. Traditionally, genre storytelling will take current societal issues as use them as a backdrop to tell an exploitative story. While Crawl's premis is in this spirit, wild animals pushed out of their natural habitat, the film makes no attempt to push a message. The premise is only a set up for a well paced ninety minutes of escalating family versus alligator versus hurricane batahit craziness. While a certain audience will show up for alligator attacks and body count, Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper's performances elevate the film specifically in one emotionally impacting character scene.
