I saw this amazing video the other day when @the.root asked @Yahya Abdul Mateen II why it’s important to listen to black women and our Beloved said, “Because they’re geniuses.” And he said it with such certainty and clarity that I believe he believes that and it makes me want to toss confetti in the air for whoever raised him to know that kind of truth so deep in his bones. . . . You know why it’s important to actually #ListenToBlackWomen as much more than just a hashtag tho? Because on #InternationalWomensDay there are still so many folk calling themselves #IntersectionalFeminists that have no clue what #Intersectionality actually means. Listening to Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw and other #blackfeminist and #womanists that’s have been doing this work of “not a separatist except periodically for health” is because there really is #genius level capacity locked up behind the silencing mechanism of a patriarchal white Supremacist society. Imagine how much the world doesn’t know because it has totally not listened to the genius of black women! . . . I wrote a piece on Intersectionality for @cuup. You can find the link In my bio under podcasts|blogs|media. Or in #CUUP’s bio. It’s an opportunity to actually listen to black women by learning about the very specific origin of this term that folk throw around with such ease with no context. . . . Also, I’m currently taking my #Womanism is To #Feminism lecture series on the road where I’m teaching in the inherently intersectional nature of Womanism and how Womanism will save us all. Visit ebonyjanice.com/womanismlecture to get your ticket for Berkeley March 29th, LA April 5th and Chicago April 7th. There is also info there for you to learn more abt how to bring this lecture to your city. . . . #TheFreePeopleProject (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9et5cJJUG9/?igshid=19sens28ck2x4
