Do you think Sylus and Caleb would get along?
i literally love you for asking me this. absolutely not.
i have some more fleshed out posts and a fic idea related to this that may see the light of day eventually but to put it briefly. in the context of mc i think they’d despise each other because they both think the other has done things to hurt her & can’t be trusted. caleb felt threatened by high school boys who got too close to her, so a man like sylus? automatic enemy, on top of the whole dangerous crime lord thing. and if mc told sylus about what caleb did in homecoming wings. well. i cannot imagine that going over too well
even outside the context of mc i think their ideologies are so different they’d hate each other’s guts. or at least caleb would hate sylus, but sylus wouldn’t give caleb the satisfaction/recognition of hating him back. sylus is all about autonomy and agency, caleb will disregard those things if he thinks he’s justified (note: the justification does not have to be good)
bringing mc back into the convo but. one way i look at it is like. imagine sylus and caleb are about to do something that might upset mc. sylus doesn’t make a guess as to how she’ll respond or if she’ll forgive him; he doesn’t dare assume anything about her feelings or decisions that are hers to make. caleb, at his darkest, is audacious enough to guess mc’s reaction & feelings because he thinks he knows her better than she knows herself. he thinks their closeness gives him the authority to make those kinds of judgments about her. tldr caleb has the gall to make assumptions about mc and encroach upon her agency to feel & react to things independently, but sylus doesn’t assume—he leaves her options open and puts his heart on her sleeve for her to break if she desires.
