A few days ago, you mentioned a potential AU with Iris x Lisa and aromantic Barry...5 hcs about that? 👀

I don't have a full idea with a plot yet, but I think I can come up with a few ideas:

The post did say "coffee shop AU but they're getting robbed" so that is how Iris and Lisa meet. It's maybe 2 months post accelerator switch on, Leonard is being all dramatic that he and Mick have had a tiff and is refusing to involve Lisa in any of his jobs, so she decides to just rob an art gallery by herself, that'll show him. And if Jitters happens to be the perfect place to sit to wait and case the place, well, no one is going to question why Lisa shows up every evening and sits there for a while if she is also flirting with the very cute waitress who works closing shifts.

Iris has not been having a good time, what with Barry's coma (he's in the process of being transferred to S.T.A.R. Labs which is mostly a decision her dad made because the hospital brought up life support decisions and Harrison Wells said he would be able to help. Iris doesn't know if she can trust him, but right now all that matters is Barry waking up), so the distraction of a very pretty woman flirting with her is kind of a welcome one. She is going to have to start asking Lisa to bring back some of the mugs that seem to disappear every time she comes in eventually though, otherwise her boss is going to have something to say about it.

Barry has never been in love with Iris, but that never stopped other people assuming he was. Maybe that was why he said yes when Becky asked him out, he felt like it would prove he wasn't. Maybe he already felt singled out and different from everyone else and dating like them felt like he might fit in better, it wasn't like anyone else had ever asked, or he had ever expected anyone to ask (for some reason, it never occurred to him he could be the one asking, or that some girls might expect him to be the one asking). Maybe he got himself so caught up in his head about not understanding crushes he let himself get swept up in the moment. But for whatever reason, he let himself say yes, and then regretted it. It didn't last long, it ended in a mess that was both of their fault's- despite Iris insisting anyone would be lucky to have Barry (and Barry's unvoiced maybe he didn't want that) and clearly Becky should have been able to see that- and he swore off dating after that. It really wasn't a problem in high school, but it did become more relevant in college. Fortunately Daphne Dean, who asked if he wanted some coffee, was bi and realised Barry's panicky stuttering at the end when she leaned in meant he clearly hadn't realised she meant as a date and maybe she should introduce him to some other options. Including aromanticism.

Iris West is smart. Lisa stops showing up right after the art gallery gets robbed- and Jitters has a load of coffee stolen on the same night- and she has some suspicions. But Lisa shows up a few weeks later claiming she had to visit her brother on short notice and Iris checked, she can't find a criminal record or anything that says Lisa is a suspect and maybe she puts her doubts aside when Lisa asks if she wants to get dinner. Maybe saying yes is something her dad would not approve of and the fact Iris is pretty certain she is not going to be telling her dad about her date is probably not a good sign, but she lets herself be swept up in the moment anyway.

She does not mention any of the theft to Barry when he finds her kissing Lisa just a few hours after waking up from his coma, it's not until Barry recognises the name Snart in the folder Joe gives him that he puts two and two together. But Lisa did tell Iris she was an engineer, and Joe made Barry promise not to tell Iris about Flash stuff (and okay, so maybe he's skirting that a little by visiting her as the Flash, but he can't completely keep her out of this, she's Iris, she's going to get herself involved with or without him), so how exactly he's going to have a conversation about how much Lisa knows about what her brother does for a living is probably going to be tricky.
