to the anon that just sent in an ask about choices i made regarding harry’s grandmother:

i’m sorry, but you’re going to have to ask off anon. it’s not a bad question. there was a reasoning behind it and i don’t mind telling you. but i just don’t feel like opening my blog up to scrutiny, to it being taken out of context by people who haven’t read siat, or managing an influx of other people’s opinions

you and i can have a conversation, but i just don’t have the mental energy to manage the inevitable response if i answer you publicly right now

not to you, anon, specifically, but just in general:

i really really wish you guys would send me stuff that you know has the potential to generate controversy off anon

because now instead of you and i having a conversation, this becomes a matter of performance art of on my end, and a guidebook for how all other internet strangers will interact with me, and invites others to make comments on this topic, and i’m going to have to manage and parse through all that while you just get to. send off a message that never has to be connected to your identity and avoid everything that comes after

obviously i can choose not to answer things, but often there are things i don’t mind answering privately but that i don’t want to turn into a performance. i just wish you guys would think about the type of spot you put me in when you send things like this on anon. because either i don’t respond, or now i’m not just responding to you, right now, in this moment. but i have to talk as if i’m talking to thousands of people, with no context for this ask or my work or me, because, well, i am. that’s the internet.

i’m not trying to make anyone feel bad for asking me questions or questioning my choices. there’s nothing wrong with that. but it makes it easier for me to answer things like that if it’s you and me just talking rather than something i have formulate with public consumption in mind
