as the Supernatural fans say, "It's subtext." You can't tell me out of context, that this scene does not scream,,,

But even still. This pairing legitimately seems scarce from what I've seen, and I'm super shocked, because after rewatching Hotel Transylvania for the second time since I was 12, I was hit with ✨ALL THE VIBES✨ from these two,, Ship aside for a second. You can't tell me this movie was actually about Johnny and Mavis falling falling in love, and not about Dracula's relationship with Johnny and his daughter. The romance feels like it's just a sideplot ╮⁠(⁠.⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ᴗ⁠ ⁠❛⁠.⁠)⁠╭

___ Johnny and Mavis don't go through any big character progression or monumental shift that you would expect to see in a movie about a couple falling in love. They are who they are the entire movie. All the change and development is put on Dracula from start to finish, and I really love that. But that's beside the point,, His relationship with Johnny gives me all the undertone bi feels, and it keeps me coming back to rewatch this movie every couple years. I MEAN C'MON, they have more interaction and scenes together than Johnny and Mavis do! At least it I'm pretty fuckin' sure ! Dracula would have never changed without Johnny's influence. The gradual shift from being cold and dismissive, to being more himself, becoming vulnerable and open, then full acceptance,, is just,, chef's kiss ~ I love how Dracula goes from just wanting Johnny out of his hotel by any means necessary, to going through so much effort to keep him out of harm's way. I just realized too that Drac told the story about his wife's death and why he hates humans so much, to Johnny, BEFORE Mavis, who really deserved to know her family history first. This man opened up to this whacky heartfelt human before his own daughter, shared his feelings and gave someone his trust for the first time in a long time, and let himself change. The bond has been struck! I love a good unexpected vampire romance story ^^ Mavis and Johnny are cute n' all, I won't lie,, but we know what's really up. I could talk about my DraculaXJohnny shipping A LOT MORE, but I'll save that for later..

Great question. I have no idea lol.

Well, I can come up with two guesses: firstly, that a lot of the MXTX characters have... subtextual pairings. Like even if MXTX insists she didn't intend to write other canon pairings, there's enough subtext around certain pairings to be like "r u sure":

Jun Wu and Mei Nianqing (the parallels at the end with Hualian)

Shi Qingxuan and He Xuan (no explanation needed)

Quan Yizhen and Yin Yu (they're just... too similar to Bingqiu)

Feng Xin and Mu Qing (even goes out of the way to include that Jian Lan does not love Feng Xin anymore)

Ban Yue and Pei Su (I think this is implicitly canon)

Yushi Huang and Pei Ming (I also think this is implicitly canon at least in a one-sided way; Xuan Ji's curse is pretty telling)

You could even potentially argue about Ling Wen and Bai Jing but there's not enough there for me.

Sooo considering who else is alive, people are going to probably want to ship Lang Qianqiu with someone. He doesn't interact with Shi Wudu and he's dead (I mean so is Qi Rong but more questionably lol), and he doesn't interact with Ling Wen and straight side ships are always less popular in danmei. He does have not only terrible beef with Qi Rong, but takes in Guzi (Qi Rong's adopted son) at the end. They could be the real enemies to lovers, but with a kid too.

At least, that's my guess. I'm not really into it but not opposed either lol. True neutral.
