Neither of them were naturally quiet people. Bad was only quiet when he was scheming or angry, and Skeppy knew for a fact he never shut up even at the best of times. Maybe that was why this silence felt so stony.

Two years since they found out they were soulmates. Two years since Skeppy’s heart jumped when he saw the red string tied around his finger connected to Bad’s pinky. Two years since they had given up everything familiar to be together. And for what? Just for that to happen?

Skeppy kept his eyes trained on the phone screen in front of him, knowing full well Bad was only pretending to be asleep. He wouldn’t give in. They both had reasons for doing what they did, but Skeppy thought his reasons were more valid than the piece of shit excuses Bad had given him.

Anger swelled in his gut. It was anger, not sadness. So why did he want to cry?

No. He wouldn’t cry, even if Bad was his soulmate.

Nobody had warned him that soulmates were people, too. Soulmates were imperfect, soulmates made mistakes, soulmates made awful, life-wrecking decisions. And this was one he maybe couldn’t forgive.

But of course, the universe had decided their spirits would be the ones shackled together. This red string was starting to feel more like a chain with every second that passed by.

God damn it. He’d have to say it.

Skeppy swallowed his pride and turned to tap on Bad’s shoulders.
