A picture that says “A student once asked anthropologist Margaret Mead, “What is the earliest sign of civilization? The student expected her to say a clay pot, a grinding stone, or maybe a weapon.
Margaret Mead thought for a moment, then she said, “A healed femur.”
The second picture is a news headline. It is bolded and a much larger font. “27-year-old who couldn’t afford $1,200 insulin copay dies after trying cheaper version.”
The third picture is the same font and size as the Margaret Mead quote. It’s a continuation. It says, “A femur is the longest bone in the body, linking hip to knee. In societies without the benefits of modern medicine, it takes about six weeks of rest for a fractured femur to heal. A healed femur shows that someone cared for the injured person, did their hunting and gathering, stayed with them, and offered physical protection and human companionship until the injury could mend.”
The fourth picture is another headline. It is in a large and bolded type. “Dying man who couldn’t afford to go to hospital after vomiting blood"
The fifth picture is a screenshot of the Margaret Mead story.
Mead explained that where the law of the jungle—the survival of the fittest—rules, no healed femurs are found. The first sign of civilization is compassion, seen in a healed femur.
The next screenshot is of a slightly different font. The letters are pointier and the lines are a little curvier. It says, “Susan Finley returned to her job at a Walmart retail store in Grand Junction Colorado, after having to call in sick because she was recovering from pneumonia.
The day after she returned, the fifty three year old received her ten year associate award — and was simultaneously laid off, according to her family. She had taken off one day beyond what is permitted by Walmart’s attendance policy.
After losing her job in May 2016, Finley also lost her health insurance coverage and struggled to find a new job. Three months later, Finley was found dead in her apartment after avoiding going to see a doctor for flu-like symptoms.
A screenshot of a bold, bigger headline. It says ‘The house always wins’: Insurers’ record profits.
A final screenshot of smaller text with a slightly gray background. It says “We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized.” /end ID.]
Emergency
Dpxdc Prompt #73
Joining the Justice League is a drawn out, difficult process that has many requirements—a JL sponsor, review of major battles, a 2/3 or more vote from existing members to allow the new hero to join, and that's just naming the bare minimum.
The point is, being a hero is a prerequisite to joining the league, not the other way around. That being said, during world threatening events the League cannot afford to be too choosy about the heroes they are working with, every hand counts.
Which is why Phantom finds himself on Team Delta of the League despite not being a member himself—yet, hopefully—and finds out that even in emergency situations the JL members can be really fun to talk to.
ren and his beautiful gorgeous eyes
I think what I like about Red and Purps dynamic so much is because both parties are conflicted but it’s difficult for them to resolve things and find common ground because of their shared traumas and how it shapes their interactions with others.
Red copes by using what they think is their main purpose (being a captain for MIRA) and believes it’s their most liked thing about them, as well as feeling important for it, so much so that they’ve based their entire identity around it. They’re so used to performing as Captain Red that they forget how to be just Red. Their insecurities about being a leader makes them ignorant to others around them even if they want to do good.
Purple, on the other hand, tries so hard to avoid letting others in because of their pain and struggles to make new connections because of it. They have so much empathy for others but has trouble expressing it. They’d rather do things on their own because they’re scared to rely on others since they’ve been on their own for so long and opening up means being vulnerable. They had to pick up the pieces and put themself back together.
They feel like no one listens to them so they have to shout to be heard. They’re hurting so much, all while being frustrated that Red can’t see the problems in MIRA’s logic until it’s too late.
Not an art req but YAP ABOUT MUGMAN KING!!
Guess what chat???
I'm yapping about Mugman.
ANYYWWAYYYYY this was like,, probably one of the first asks i ever got? I think i sorta answered it without directly doing it but im gonna use it now to yap some more cuz... yeah.
I think it's been in my ask box for like. Idk. A little over a month maybe?? Also happy holidays cuz im posting this on December 25th mwehehehe
Also, these are MY AUS of Mugman.
Yes, these are two different versions. I draw them pretty similarly now that i look at em side by side... anyway first one is from the one with constantly grinning freak bendy and kind hearted himbo cuphead,, aka the bendystraw au!!! The second....
Well,,, he may or may not be from a... qftim au that im working on..... and there may or may not be a second image that kinda spoils some things so i am keeping it hidden
Anyway, for Mugs 1:
He is stubborn (woah,,,, so interesting)
Despite being very cold at times and having a short temper, he's got a good heart and decent morals (Elder Kettle made sure of that <3). He's also very tired, and despite how often i draw him looking pissed off, his resting face is very neutral. Compared to Boris, he's approachable, but he also gives off a "please please do not interact with me i haven't slept in five days" vibe so he's not talked to much.
He is VERY hardworking, and will have moments where he pushes himself too far. Cup was usually the one who would keep him from doing that, but Boris has to do it nowadays. Unlike Cup, who would give him short pep talks and tell him to go to bed or take a break, Boris will drag his ass away from whatever he's focusing on and force him to go chill out (Mugs spends way too much time studying and too little time sleeping)
He likes a good adventure and romance books, but he manages to talk himself out of doing anything that has the slightest chance of getting him hurt and also doesn't know how to flirt so he just. Doesn't. Because he'd get embarrassed if he messed up or was rejected
Mugs and Cup have a rocky relationship in the story (might make a blog for it one day if i FIGURE OUT THE FUCKING NAME) and despite being raised together and rubbing off on each other they are very, very different people. Which, I mean, is pretty normal me thinks (i have many siblings and none of us are similar in the slightest).
Mugs is a casual crossdresser. He likes wearing skirts when he's in his apartment and all comfortable. They're loose, flowy, and look nice. He used to think he looked bad in them, but he's come to find himself pretty. Boris has definitely helped him out with his confidence and treats Mugs in a dress as normal as the dish wearing pants.
He wears eyeliner from time to time.
Nowww for Mugs 2!!!!! I can't say too much without spoiling his character or whatever (i have no clue how people resist the urge to yap about their characters cuz id spoil everything 😭)
He is a fucking TANK. He's over 6'0 and muscular as hell (though he doesn't look like it cuz im not great at drawing really big muscular dudes lol. Im working on that though!!!). I would like to say he wouldn't hurt a fly but he can very easily break your hand. It took him a while to realize his strength and once he did he suddenly started treating everyone like they're more fragile than glass. (Well, everyone that wasn't a target)
He's running on like a gallon of extremely sugary coffee every day and keeps himself super active throughout it and yet sleep refuses to offer him her comforting embrace.
He stutters. Sometimes.
He's emotional.
Don't yap don't yap don't yap stop it stop STOP no yapping grrr contain it do not spoil character don't do it hdhdhsh NOOOO GET OUT OF MY SKINNSNDJSJNN
When drunk he will cry and sob and shake and there is nothing you can do about that besides comfort him. Let him have a good sob. He needs it. (You'd think that would make him avoid alcohol... well, i won't say why he keeps on going for it besides the obvious that it's an addiction, but guess!!)
You don't know how hard it is to resist going deep into his lore and every aspect of him. Why is it that i always give my favorite characters depth and detail last. Bendy and Boris are the main characters and i still don't know what their personalities are gonna be 💔💔 fucking sheba and felix have more lore than them and they're gonna be the last of the main cast to be introduced like huh??? Omg sheba we get it ive been actually working on your design and figuring out what role you'll have in the overall story don't go bragging about it cuz then boris and bendy are gonna make my life harder and refuse to let themselves be designed istg
