I have been debating with myself whether or not to wait until the movie is out and just skip the scenes that cumbendryl is in

Yeah no, I totally get why people are angry about this -- this person did also accuse anyone who writes this kind of fiction of being abusive paedophiles, so. 

(As always though, as a general note for everyone following this wank, please don’t take that anger out on them. Sending hate their way isn’t going to accomplish anything, and it looks like they’ve already been getting a lot of aggressive messages.)

Their argument seems to be that if the Wrong Kind of Fiction exists at all in a way that is publicly accessible, there’s a risk that vulnerable people will read it and be influenced or hurt by it.

And I mean yes, that is a risk. There are an awful lot of people out there who still don’t get the point of Lolita. But censorship carries a whole slew of risks of its own, and makes it harder to discuss why some ideas or attitudes might be dangerous. Again I can’t recommend this post on the subject strongly enough.

If kids are getting on the internet and encountering stories that involve rape, and coming away with skewed perceptions of consent or sex positivity, that’s something we need to address with discussion and education, not censorship.
