“I call Alex ‘Eagle’. A lot of guys call him Eddie. “Our old D coach used to call him Eagle, so it stuck for me.” Tanev learned the Eagle moniker from Rick Bowness, but according to Edler, the nickname is actually derived from former Canucks captain and president Trevor Linden. “I’m pretty sure it was Linden who first gave it to me,” Edler said.
At least 10 or 12 of the guys grabbed me, pulled me aside, and said, ‘Just go play. Be confident in your abilities and go have fun. Guys like Eagle [Alex Edler] on the back end and [Nate Schmidt], and I’m living with [Quinn] Hughes right now, so every one of them had a little something to say and definitely helped me feel a bit more comfortable.
