We Were Liars Once — Pt. 25
❄ — Anna winds up at the Pole, looking around, at once shocked, confused, lost and afraid, but also... annoyed. Someone had just kidnapped her in the middle of something and she wasn't just going to let that sli— ❄ — A yeti face appears in front of her and she yelps and panics, stumbling within the sack, trying to get away from them. She sees little hummingbird creatures with human faces flitting around, and lots of flying toys (?) which both freak her out and intrigue her. ❄ — Seeing decor up around her, she sees strange depictions hanging off the walls and ceilings. ❄ — She looks for where to go, but there are so many routes... and all of them seem to be occupied by some sort of creature that definitely doesn't look like it should exist. ❄ — There are also tiny, long-eared creatures that are milling about that remind her of... elves? Except... they look otherwise nothing like elves. Don't act like them either. ❄ — They yeti creatures grumble something to one another but she doesn't understand a word of it, and she backs up more, unknowingly walking through a spirit. ❄ — Briefly, she gets distracted when golden sand — sand? — floats through the air, transforming into weird shapes, that leaves her wondering what the heck was doing that, or if she was hallucinating, and if so, why. Some sort of sand creatu— ❄ — When she turns around, she finally sees a short man made of sand and freaks out again, stumbling back and falling flat on her ass. ❄ — What even was this place? ❄ — The elves, the toys, the... well, she wasn't sure if the yetis were supposed to be here, but there was a lot of red. You'd think it was the North Pole— ❄ — "Ah, good. So you do see us, now. That is good." ❄ — She scrambles to her feet, before fully looking at the man in red before her with the long white beard. "What the hell— where am I— you're not, no way—!"
❄ — "Ah, but there is way," the Russian voice exclaims as she looks into jolly looking blue eyes. "You are at Pole. And so is Santa Claus — me — the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy... and Sandman." ❄ — Her eyes widen as the other two spirits finally appear in view. She's not sure if this is a dream come true or a nightmare. ❄ — She's greeted by several people. Well, people. Not all of them look... human. There's a whole, giant-hecking rabbit among them, and a woman covered in bird feathers! ❄ — And said woman immediately zips up to her, scrutinising her, with a lot of focus on her teeth of all things. ❄ — "Tooth, hands away from mouth," a the man from before exclaims and the lady immediately backs off. ❄ — Anna frowns, trying to wrap her head around this. ❄ — North introduces them all by name too, and explains that they are the Guardians of childhood, which doesn't help at all. ❄ — "Then what do you want with me? I'm not a child!" ❄ — The cheery old man chuckles as if she's said some kind of joke and spreads his arms out. "Yes, but you are in need of protecting." ❄ — Anna frowns. "Protecting?" ❄ — It's not that they're necessarily wrong — since her parents have died, she and her sister had come to learn that the world was neither a fair, nor a safe place... — but kidnapping didn't seem like something a group of protectors would do. ❄ — "Exactly what are you trying to protect me from?" ❄ — "Same thing as your sister—" Anna freezes. Was Elsa here somewhere? If she'd been kidnapped, she was no doubt scared. "From Pitch." ❄ — "Pitch?"
❄ — "North! You can't just go kidnapping people whenever you feel like it!" A voice exclaims from above, and something (or rather, someone) flies down and around Anna to land by her side. ❄ — All of the people turn around to look at the young man standing beside her, dressed in a blue hoodie, bare-foot, holding a staff, with white hair and blue eyes. At first, she's not sure who the heck it is, or why he's hear, but it doesn't take long to place that face, and — ❄ — "Jack. Good timing." ❄ — "Jack?" Anna looks at him shock. "You know these— these... kidnappers!?" ❄ — Jack's steps slightly in front of Anna, glaring at North. "Good timing? You didn't even tell me you were going to pull this shit! You can't just keep doing that!" ❄ — "I thought you said you liked the sack and portal thing." ❄ — "I— no— look, the point is, you can't just take people to the Pole against their will and then decide what is good for them," Jack insists. ❄ — "It is for her protection. You know this. Unfortunately, we could not get Elsa—" ❄ — Anna's breath hitches and she's not sure whether she should be relieved or afraid for her sister. ❄ — "I know. I was there. Pitch took her... but that's no reason—" ❄ — "Pitch?" ❄ — "We too think Pitch was behind this, yes. Phil gave word." ❄ — "Yeah, well, maybe he wouldn't have taken her, if you didn't send your yetis to try and snatch her up. She could've just walked away from there—" ❄ — "And then we could've taken her here?" ❄ — Anna just watches, confuses, backing away from both of them, and also anyone who tries to come near her. She almost hits a yeti out of fear and shock when one comes too near. This was not how she would've wanted to find out about childhood myths being real.
❄ — "Look, how about the two of you clowns stop arguing for a moment and start focusing on our guest," an aussie voice exclaims, coming from the rabbit, of all people. ❄ — "Poor thing must be terrified," Toothiana agrees. "Let's not have her thinking we're worse than the person we're trying to protect her from, hmm, boys?" ❄ — North looks almost sheepish at that. ❄ — Sandman looks indignant. ❄ — Jack looks sheepish too, before turning to Anna. "Look, I'm sorry you had to find out like this... I... just, didn't know how to tell you, and..." ❄ — "I just want to know where Elsa is..." she finally says, unable to hide the dread in her voice. If she was kidnapped, then who knows what that Pitch person might do. She wanted to find that asshole who did that to Elsa and— ❄ — "Yeah... well, about that..." Jack started. ❄ — "We do not know where the entrance to Pitch's lair is anymore..." North admitted. ❄ — "Which is why I suggested we don't scare him off prematurely..." Bunny pointed out. ❄ — "Buuuut my fairies are on it!" Toothiana tried to reassure her. Which only leaves Anna with more questions than answers.
❄ — Meanwhile, many miles away and several metres underground... Elsa finds herself having been rather unceremoniously dropped onto a cushioned surface that she does not recognise. She comes to, first slowly, and then suddenly. ❄ — It is dark around her, which doesn't help ease off the tension within her. She tries to figure out where she might be, but all she knows is that she's definitely not in the front garden of the house she lived at. ❄ — "Apologies for the discomfort—" ❄ — She feels a chill as a familiar voice echoes through the room, though it sounds a little less... human now. ❄ — "— but I wasn't in the mood to let those pests take another pawn." ❄ — She whips around, trying to find him. ❄ — "Besides, it's only fair that now that I know some of your secrets, you get to know some of mine, don't you think?" It sounds too casual, too playful, and it leaves her glaring into the darkness, until a dim light fills the room. ❄ — Stepping out of the shadows, a tall figure emerges, familiar, but not quite the same. He doesn't have eyebrows, but the eyes themselves are very similar, the same unusual golden-silver colour. He's dressed in black robes — looking downright villainous, which didn't inspire much trust — and she can swear his skin is not quite human. ❄ — There's an amused hum, and a faint smile on his face. ❄ — "Might as well drop that old name, by the way. These days, I actually go by Pitch Black," as he speaks, she can swear she could see the faint outline of teeth that didn't look human either. Sharper, more shark-like, instead. "But you might know me as the boogeyman." The smile turns into a smirk as he watches confusion and disbelief turn into shock and wariness; fear.
❄ — "As flattering as your reaction is, Elsa, there's really no need to fear for your safety," Pitch's smirk widens seeing her back up. "At least, not as long as you're not one of them." ❄ — He seems pleased by her confusion over them. ❄ — "That fight from a while back? You might remember it? It was with one of the Guardians — those bothersome, meddling fools who think they're protecting the children they bribe into believing in them —, who'd found me wandering around as I am now, in my spirit form..." ❄ — Spirit? This whole thing was starting to sound less and less realistic by the minute, and yet, here he was, looking the same and yet completely different. ❄ — "I can assure you, I am very real," Pitch adds, clearly seeing the way she rubs her wrists and even tries to pinch herself in the vain effort that she might wake up from reality. "So there is not point attempting such foolishness..." ❄ — "Then let me go," she finally speaks. ❄ — "Hmmm... no." ❄ — "No?" Her voice is weak, but she's not about to let him just decide this for her, as she looks around, searching for an escape, hoping that Anna is fine, especially since she's likely told him about her before. ❄ — "Afraid that won't be possible. You see, the moment you're out there, the Guardians will be able to snatch you up... but, more importantly, having you here means I have an advantage over at least one of those pests... really, it's quite fortunate you and I happened to have crossed paths..." ❄ — She feels a sense of hurt and betrayal, seeing the opportunistic glint in his eyes as he speaks about using her against his enemies, as if she were worth that little.
❄ — "But not to worry. Once they're gone from the face of the Earth, there won't be any need to keep you around." It's so casually ominous, it squeezes at her heart. She'd thought they would've at least been friends by now, but the way he said that...? ❄ — Would he really just... get rid of her afterwards? ❄ — For a faint moment, she could have swore she saw the twisted optimism in his features fade. She might've imagined it, though. ❄ — "For now, enjoy your stay here," Pitch adds coolly, fading back into the shadows, leaving her alone in the room once more, mind still reeling from all the information. ❄ — Elsa knew she needed to get out of here right away, except, having no idea how exactly she got here, that wouldn't be an easy task. ❄ — Looking to the bedside drawer on which a lantern (or was it a lamp; hard to say) stood, she noticed a piece of paper, that read, in cursive writing, "I wouldn't think about escaping. There is no way a mortal human can get out of this place. — Pitch". ❄ — She felt tempted to toss it, but then thought better of it and instead got up and tried to find a way out on foot. ❄ — Only for her to step outside and immediately be met by more seemingly neverending darkness. Turning back, tries to grab the lantern, but it's attached, and so is forced to look all over the room for anything that might help. ❄ — Opening the drawers, she finds another note. ❄ — "You're not going to find anything here. — Pitch." ❄ — She could swear he was enjoying this. She could practically read the smirk in his words. ❄ — Still, she ignores it and keeps searching.

Y’know, it’s kinda funny. I’m a massive Scooby Doo fan, but never have I ever actually made my own au with it? But that is for a reason.
And what is that reason, you may be asking. And the answer is: I’m extremely picky when it comes to casting for it. Fun fact: when it comes to making an au with a specific property, I’m very picky about the casting. And even here, it’s not exactly entirely accurate.
Because: while Jack and Anna have Daphne and Fred’s bodies, their roles are actually flipped! And Scooby is himself, for no real reason. It was just easier. While Johnny and Mirabel as Shaggy and Velma was pretty much guaranteed, for simpler reasons.

SO I think my main reservation about shipping romantic Hiccunzel has always been the fact that I stan Hiccanna and Jackunzel so hard, like. I simply cannot look at Rapunzel x Hiccup and NOT go “but what of Jack and Anna??? Are they now fated to not find true love??? They’re gonna be so sad D:”
So the obvious solution all along was to have Hiccup and Rapunzel date Anna, Jack, AND each other, EZ
And HiJack and Annunzel are pretty solid gay ships, so like??? It kinda WORKS???
And thus the RotBTD discord came up with Hijannunzel, which might well be the most blursed ship in existence XD Legit poly ships are too powerful. Once you start shipping them, it’s like “oh, this solves SO many problems??? And also if they all got married and got a tax break they’d be OP as hell??? And having a 3-way support system of awesome people to kiss and cuddle and hang out with would be SICK???”
ANYWAYS! I decided to style this so that I put a thing I think each pair would bond over between their pictures because I think it’d be neat!!!
Rapunzel & Hiccup: Art!!! He sketches, she paints, and they definitely draw each other and nerd out over different art styles together!!! Catch them on an art museum date any day. They’ve also definitely made art of each other, and the rest of the polycule. Rapunzel & Jack: Outdoorsy winter fun!!! Like Rapunzel is literally ALWAYS down for a gigantic, Extra snowball fight and you can’t change my mind. Punz just really likes being outside (I mean, she was locked inside for years, can you blame her???) and appreciates all the seasons, but like...overappreciates winter because she figures it could use the love XD Anna & Jack: Sweets!!! I am 1000% convinced both these kids are sugar junkies. Anna has a preference for chocolate obviously, but Jack will devour anything with a sugar content Tooth would absolutely not approve of. They also both adore hot cocoa, and you can’t change my mind. Anna & Hiccup: Dragons/animals in general!!! Anna’s such an animal whisperer in Frozen 1, like. She gets three ducklings to jump into her hands, befriends Hans’ horse, vents to her own horse, and sees a guy talking to his reindeer like a buddy and just immediately starts doing the same thing. Ain’t no one convincing me Anna wouldn’t think dragons were the coolest shit ever, and she would try to (perhaps unwisely) befriend every single one.
Couldn’t include in this one, BUT ALSO:
Jack & Hiccup: Flying and thrill-seeking!!! Like they both seem to be hardcore adrenaline junkies, if Jack letting the wind blow him around every which way and Hiccup literally inventing a funky winged device so he can fly with Toothless is anything to go by. These two would really love flying and exploring together! The adventures AND the poor decisions would be unparalleled XD Rapunzel & Anna: Flower appreciation!!! They both dun got big springtime vibes, and would probably be constantly picking wildflower bouquets for each other. I feel like they’d get into gardening, and try to befriend all the pollinator bugs--even the scary ones XD Love that they both have floral motifs, and Anna’s is a sunflower while Rapunzel’s is...a literal sun flower XD Also love the idea of them bonding over girly stuff in general, and doing things like dress-shopping and meadow-frolicking together :D
Anyways, they all share an apartment and have movie and video game nights where they all get into a cuddle pile on the couch and it’s wholesome and fantastic. They also like to crash fancy parties paired off and then stage dramatic “reveals” where they get caught cheating on each other and make a whole production out of it, solely to be chaotic. Also to snack on fancy little cheese blocks on toothpicks and crostini. Have a great rest of your night.
