The GQ studio was quieter than you expected.
There were only a few cameras set up around the room, two chairs positioned beside each other, and a small table stacked with cards containing the questions you and Jackson were supposed to answer.
You had done plenty of interviews alone.
You had done award-show interviews, radio appearances, album press tours, livestreams, and even a few ridiculous games where you had to rank your own songs while trying not to offend your friends.
But sitting beside your boyfriend while knowing every little thing you said could potentially become a headline felt different.
Especially because Jackson seemed completely comfortable.
He was sitting beside you with one ankle resting over his knee, casually adjusting one of his rings while you kept glancing at the stack of cards.
“You’re nervous,” Jackson said, turning toward you with an amused smile.
“I’m not nervous,” you said, shaking your head as you tried to sound convincing.
“You are,” Jackson said, reaching over and gently tapping the back of your hand with his fingers.
“I’m just thinking,” you said, looking down at your cards.
“You’ve been thinking for ten minutes,” Jackson said, laughing quietly.
You finally looked at him.
“Maybe I’m thinking about how annoying you’re going to be,” you said, giving him a pointed look.
Jackson laughed and leaned back in his chair.
“Me?” he asked, pointing at himself with an innocent expression.
“Yes, you,” you said, nodding firmly.
“I’m always well-behaved,” Jackson said, placing a hand over his chest.
You stared at him for a second.
“That’s a lie,” you said, shaking your head.
The crew laughed.
Jackson looked toward the cameras with a grin.
“See what I deal with?” he asked, gesturing toward you.
“You love it,” you said, folding your arms.
“I do,” Jackson said, smiling as he reached over and briefly squeezed your hand.
You immediately looked away.
The producer noticed.
“Oh, this is going to be fun,” they said from behind the camera.
You groaned.
“Please don’t encourage him,” you said, covering your face for a second.
Jackson laughed beside you.
The producer counted down.
“Three, two, one.”
The cameras started rolling.
“Hi, GQ,” you said, smiling toward the camera.
“I’m Jackson Wang,” Jackson said, giving the camera a small wave.
“And I’m Y/N,” you said, gesturing toward yourself.
“And today, we’re doing the GQ Couples Quiz,” Jackson said, smiling.
“Which means we’re about to find out who actually pays attention,” you added, glancing at him.
Jackson turned toward you.
“I pay attention to everything you do,” he said, giving you a small smile.
You immediately felt your face warm.
“Okay,” you said, looking down at the cards. “We’re starting.”
Jackson laughed.
The first card was yours.
You picked it up and read the question.
“How long does it take me to do my hair?”
You looked at Jackson.
He didn’t even hesitate.
“Okay so— It depends,” Jackson said, holding up one finger.
You nodded.
“Correct answer,” you said, smiling.
“If you’re doing something simple, maybe forty-five minutes,” Jackson said, counting on his fingers. “If you’re doing something more complicated, I’m not seeing you for at least two hours.”
You laughed.
“That is actually accurate,” you said, nodding.
“And if you say you’re almost done, that means I have another thirty minutes,” Jackson added, shaking his head.
“That is so rude,” you said, lightly bumping your shoulder against his.
“Okay but… Am I wrong?” Jackson asked, raising an eyebrow.
You tried not to smile.
“No,” you admitted, laughing softly.
Jackson reached over and took your hand.
“You’re beautiful either way,” he said, giving your knuckles a quick kiss.
Your eyes widened.
“Jackson,” you said, immediately looking toward the camera.
“What?” Jackson asked, smiling innocently.
“You know exactly what you’re doing,” you said, pulling your hand back while trying not to laugh.
The crew laughed again.
Jackson simply leaned back.
“Next question,” he said, looking entirely too pleased with himself.
You picked up another card.
“What is my favorite thing to do when I have a completely free day?”
Jackson thought for a moment.
“Stay home, with me,” he said confidently.
You nodded.
“Keep going,” you said, encouraging him.
“Watch something you’ve already watched twelve times,” Jackson continued, pointing at you.
“Okay,” you said, laughing.
“Order food even though you said you were going to cook,” Jackson added.
“I don’t do that every time,” you protested, shaking your head.
“You do,” Jackson said, smiling.
“Okay, maybe sometimes,” you admitted.
“And sleep,” Jackson finished.
You nodded.
“That is correct.”
Jackson smiled proudly.
“I know my girl.”
You rolled your eyes.
“Don’t start.”
He laughed.
Your next card had a question that immediately made you smile.
“What is the first thing I do when I wake up?”
Jackson tilted his head.
“Check your phone,” he said.
“No.”
He looked surprised.
“No?”
“No,” you said, shaking your head.
“Check your messages?”
“No.”
“Check social media?”
“No.”
Jackson stared at you for a moment.
“Then what?”
You smiled.
“I stare at the ceiling for approximately five minutes and question why I woke up.”
Jackson burst out laughing.
“I knew you wouldn’t get it,” you said, laughing.
“No— I’ve literally watched you do that,” Jackson said, shaking his head.
“Exactly,” you said, pointing at him. “You should have known.”
Jackson reached over and took your hand again.
“I was distracted,” he said, rubbing his thumb across your knuckles.
“By what?” you asked.
“You.”
You immediately looked away.
“Oh my God.”
Jackson laughed.
“You’re so easy,” he said, smiling.
“I hate you,” you said, trying not to smile.
“No, you don’t,” Jackson said, leaning closer.
You gave him a look.
“Next question,” you said, quickly picking up another card.
Jackson laughed under his breath.
The next question was for him.
You read it aloud.
“What is your favorite tattoo of mine?”
Jackson’s expression changed immediately.
“Oh, I know this one,” he said, sitting up.
“You better,” you said, pointing at him.
He thought for a second.
“The one on your thigh,” Jackson said.
Your eyes widened.
“Which one?” you asked.
“The one behind your thigh,” Jackson said, smiling.
You stared at him.
“You’re being very specific.”
“I know all your tattoos,” Jackson said, shrugging.
“You do,” you said, trying not to smile.
“I like that one the most,” Jackson said, nodding.
“Why?” you asked.
Jackson looked at you for a moment.
“Because you don’t show it very often,” he said, resting his arm against the chair. “It’s kind of private.”
You smiled.
“That’s actually a good answer,” you said, nodding.
Jackson held out his hand.
You looked at it suspiciously.
“What?” you asked.
“Give me your hand,” Jackson said, smiling.
You sighed but placed your hand in his.
He turned it over and kissed the back of it.
You immediately pulled your hand away.
“You’re doing too much,” you said, laughing.
“I’m answering the question,” Jackson said, laughing with you.
“No, you’re flirting.”
“We’re a couple,” Jackson said, shrugging. “I’m allowed.”
You shook your head.
“Okay,” you said, picking up another card. “My turn.”
Jackson nodded.
You looked at the question.
“What is my favorite song of yours?”
Jackson smiled.
“That’s easy.”
“Go ahead,” you said.
“‘Slow,’” he said immediately.
You nodded.
“Correct.”
“Our song,” Jackson said, smiling.
“Our song,” you repeated, smiling.
Jackson reached over and wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
You leaned away slightly because you could already tell he was about to make you embarrassed again.
“What?” Jackson asked, laughing.
“Nothing.”
“You’re avoiding me,” Jackson said, pulling you a little closer.
“I’m trying to survive this interview,” you said, laughing.
“You’re doing great.”
“I’m not,” you said, shaking your head.
Jackson kissed the side of your head before letting you go.
You stared straight at the camera.
“I’m getting revenge,” you said calmly.
Jackson’s smile disappeared for half a second.
“Revenge for what?” he asked, narrowing his eyes.
“You’ll see.”
The crew laughed.
You picked up the next card.
“What is something Jackson does that annoys me?”
Jackson immediately groaned.
“Oh, no.”
You smiled.
“Go ahead.”
“You hate when I leave my clothes around,” Jackson said.
“That is one.”
“You hate when I steal your food.”
“That is two.”
“You hate when I interrupt you when you’re working.”
“That is three.”
Jackson pointed at you.
“See? I know everything.”
You nodded.
“You do.”
You paused.
“But you forgot one.”
Jackson frowned.
“What?”
“You flirt with me when I’m trying to be serious.”
The crew laughed.
Jackson smiled.
“That’s not annoying.”
“It is when we’re supposed to be having a serious conversation,” you said, crossing your arms.
Jackson leaned toward you.
“But you like it.”
You stared at him.
“You’re proving my point right now.”
Jackson laughed.
You picked up another card.
“Okay, your turn.”
Jackson took the card from your hand and read it.
“What is Y/N’s favorite nickname that I call her?”
He looked at you.
“Baby.”
You nodded.
“That’s one.”
“Princess.”
You smiled.
“That’s two.”
“My girl.”
You nodded.
“And…” Jackson paused dramatically.
You narrowed your eyes.
“Don’t.”
Jackson grinned.
“亲爱的.” (qīn'ài de)Dear / Darling
You immediately covered your face with both hands.
The crew started laughing.
“Why are you embarrassed?” Jackson asked, laughing.
“Because you’re saying all of them in front of people,” you said, peeking through your fingers.
“You’re my girlfriend,” Jackson said, smiling.
“That doesn’t mean you need to list every nickname you’ve ever called me.”
Jackson gently pulled your hands away from your face.
“You’re cute when you’re embarrassed,” he said, smiling.
You stared at him.
“Okay.”
Your voice had suddenly become much calmer.
Jackson noticed.
“Why did you say it like that?” he asked, suspiciously.
You smiled.
“Nothing.”
“You’re plotting something,” Jackson said, pointing at you.
“No.”
“You are.”
You picked up your next card.
“Question for you.”
Jackson sighed.
“Okay.”
“What is my favorite thing about you?”
He immediately looked at you.
“That one’s easy.”
“Go ahead.”
“My personality.”
You raised an eyebrow.
“Wrong.”
Jackson blinked.
“Wrong?”
“Very wrong.”
He laughed.
“Then what?”
You smiled.
“Your hands.”
Jackson stared at you.
“My hands?”
“Yes.”
He looked down at his hands, then back at you.
“Why?”
You shrugged.
“I just like them.”
Jackson smiled slowly.
“You’re teasing me now.”
“Maybe.”
He laughed and shook his head.
“Okay, I like this version of you.”
You smiled.
“Good.”
Jackson reached over and intertwined his fingers with yours.
“You’re still shy, though.”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“I’m not,” you repeated, laughing.
Jackson lifted your joined hands and kissed them again.
You immediately looked at him.
“You are impossible.”
“And you love me,” Jackson said, smiling.
You rolled your eyes.
“Unfortunately.”
Jackson laughed.
The producer gave you both a few seconds before announcing the final question.
You picked up the last card.
“Last one.”
Jackson nodded.
“Read it.”
You looked at the card.
“Who fell first?”
Jackson looked at you.
You looked at him.
Neither of you answered immediately.
Then Jackson slowly raised his hand.
“Me,” he said.
You smiled.
“Definitely.”
Jackson laughed.
“You agree too quickly.”
“Because it’s true.”
“I tried to play it cool,” Jackson said, shaking his head.
“You were terrible at it,” you said, laughing.
“I was not.”
“You were.”
Jackson leaned closer.
“You noticed?”
“Of course I noticed.”
He smiled.
“Then I guess I wasn’t very subtle.”
“No,” you said, shaking your head.
Jackson laughed before pulling you into a quick side hug.
You laughed against his shoulder and lightly pushed at his arm.
“Okay, we’re done.”
“We’re done?” Jackson asked, still smiling.
“Yes.”
“You’re escaping.”
“Yes.”
Jackson finally let you go.
You looked toward the camera.
“Thank you for watching the GQ Couples Quiz,” you said, smiling.
“And apparently I’ve learned that my girlfriend knows everything about me,” Jackson said, looking at you.
“And apparently I’ve learned that Jackson has absolutely no shame,” you added, laughing.
