Daily MCO Drink #673: BLACK THORN IRISH, made with 45ml Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey, 45ml Dolin Dry vermouth, 3 dashes each of Angostura Aromatic Bitters and absinthe. Dry and sharp, the choice of Irish Whiskey and dry vermouth really makes or break this drink. Good thing Black Barrel is one of my favourites for Irish whiskey cocktails, and Dolin never lets me down. Got this from Difford’s Guide, which split the vermouth to dry and sweet, but I made mine based on the original recipe in Harry Johnson's 1900 Bartender's Manual, which just calls for “French vermouth”. Johnson’s recipe also calls for “Boker’s genuine only” for his choice of bitters. I wonder how big a difference it would make if I used that instead of Angostura. (Note: Harry Craddock’s Savoy Cocktail Book uses Angostura). There’s another Blackthorn cocktail that uses sloe gin instead, will probably get to that tomorrow. #dailymcodrink #tipsyturvywhisky #jameson #jamesonmy #jamesonblackbarrel #tipsyturvycocktails #tipsyturvyvermouth #dolin #angostura #mytipsyturvy https://www.instagram.com/mytipsyturvy/p/CZEstFWpFX0/?utm_medium=tumblr
