とても means "very" but

Japanese people rarely use it

when they talk casualy.

とても( totemo) can sound too polite to say in daily conversation!👍

I don't use とても when I talk to my friends or my family.

So, you can use すごく( sugoku) or めっちゃ (meccha) instead of とても!👍to sound more casual and natural!✨

There are so many other ways to say " very " in Japanese!!

「Learn Japanese」 Pre-ます-Form VERB + 終わる as “finish VERBing”

The verb 終わる can be used in conjunction with another VERB in its Pre-ます-Form to form a compound verb that means to “finish VERBING.” Although 終わる is an intransitive verb, the resulting compound verb becomes transitive or stays intransitive depending on the VERB that is used in conjunction (the first verb determines whether the resulting compound verb is intransitive or transitive and 終わる is always the second verb in the form Pre-ます-Form VERB + 終わる so it always conforms to the other verb used). 終わる is mostly used with transitive verbs in this grammar construct.

Example(s):

宿題をし終わった後で夕食を調理しました。 Shukudai o shiowatta ato de yuushoku o chouri shimashita. (After I finished doing my homework, I made dinner.)

やっとエッセイを書き終わりました。 Yatto essay o kakiowarimashita. (I finally finished writing my essay.)

すぐに部屋を掃除し終わる。 Sugu ni heya o souji shiowaru. (I will finish cleaning my room soon.)

「Learn Japanese」 VERB て-Form ＋ みる as “to try and do VERB” or “do VERB and see what it is like”

In  this grammatical construct, みる is most frequently written in hiragana instead of a respective kanji in order to differentiate from other common verbs such as 見る and 観る.

Example(s):

日本料理を作ってみたいです。 Nihon ryouri wo tsukutte mitai desu. (I want to try to make Japanese cuisine.)

テニスをしてみましたがダメでした。 Tennis wo shite mimashita ga dame deshita. (I tried to play tennis but it was hopeless.)

やってみよう！！ Yatte miyou!! (Let’s give it a try!!)

納豆を食べてみましたが全然好きではありませんした。 Nattou wo tabete mimashita ga zenzen suki de ha arimasendeshita. (I tried eating natto but I didn’t like it at all.)
