today (well, not just today. unfortunately i'm not living in israel atm) is rosh chodesh, which if you don't know is the beginning of the new month of the jewish calendar. i've taken it upon myself not to sew on rosh chodesh, and you'd think, with sewing being my "main" hobby (read: time waster) (lol) that not sewing would make more time for me to work on my other hobbies. like writing. you'd think so! i would.

so yeah. no writing today lol

but i did work on the cover design of a different book that i'm co-authoring with someone who actually gets things done, which is exciting! that story was put on hold bc they had big ol fancy interviews happening for a cool job but now that book is back in business! we'll see how productive i am for that one lol

Idk why I have to say this, but don’t police what a Jewish writer when they want to write about something Jewish. Jews are a minority and Jewish writer’s shouldn’t have to carter goyim readers.

I want to write a children’s book about three friends creating a golem at a Jewish sleep away camp. I was told by goys to make ‘less Jewish’ for non Jews, I should explain every little bit of Jewish culture, I should make it more ‘diverse’, also telling how I should make my characters that will be based off of me and my friends.

I want to write a children’s book about my culture. I rather read a book specifically with Jewish representation than with general representation. I’m not saying general representation is bad, I’m saying I want to read books with people specifically like me. Books about Jewish culture written by a Jew for Jewish children shouldn’t have to be changed for non Jews to understand. Like I don’t care if my book doesn’t have a big audience, I want to write a book about my culture.

The book will be diverse since all of the characters will be Jewish (takes place at a Jewish sleep away camp) and one of the three friends will be non-binary since my friend is non-binary. The characters will be based off of me and my friends but rated G, so minus all the swearing and dirty jokes.

I had the amazing opprotunity to perform at a pride brunch two sundays ago on pride sunday. i wrote this poem special for the event i hope you enjoy

TEXT OF POEM:

we are to remember the exodus from egypt every day 

so i carry it around with me wherever i go 

i took a frog out of my pocket and lodged it in my throat the night i told my mother 

i like girls (too)

used the darkness to blot out the therapist who told me i was only doing it for attention 

then i got the locust to chew the stalks of my hair short 

followed by the lice so i could scratch out any indecision 

i sent the fire and ice hailing down on the fields of fear 

i released the pestilence on the cruel domesticated animals who unlocked the pen and drove my secrets out

i set the wild beasts upon my shame, watched them claw it out and it died bloody between their teeth 

i made my skin all angry and red and let the boils boil out my rage 

i turned the blood back into water and had my world settle down

we are to remember the exodus from egypt every day 

so i carry it around with me wherever i go 

now, as i walk 

i am not scared of the walls of the split sea buckling  

i have faith and i know there will be a cloud on the other end

to guide me through the wilderness
