Everythingās coming up Milhouse
I was apparently not super clear in telling my manager Iād take the role on Wednesday. Friday I got a DM from his boss (letās call him āRonā) asking if I had a few minutes for someĀ āgood newsā. Thereās a couple thing in the works that it could be, so I jumped at talking to him.
Turns out Ron was calling me to give me a pretty significant raise - both salary-wise and year-end-bonus-wise. And this is completely without him being aware that I was going to take the position. So I let him know that was my decision as well - he seemed super excited to hear it.
He wanted to make sure it was clear the the year end bonus increase would be effective for the whole year and not pro-rated to the time my raise took effect.
For the 11.5 years Iāve been with the firm, itās been pretty clear to me that raises come but once a year, so this feels pretty special. (Iāll try to not think that this means my management thought I was UNDERpaid. I mean, thatās the reality of it, but here Iāve been thinking that I was OVERpaid).
So anyhow, I wonāt get a pay adjustment taking the new position until I get to the annual review process - Ron said thatās pretty standard in case a few months down the road I/we decide itās not the best fit. But he hinted that assuming the new role works out Iād probably get a bigger bump.
So yeah, you could say things are pretty OK here.
