AFTER LOSING A JOB:
KNOW THE SIGNS OF DEPRESSION
Feeling down or blue is normal when you experience a significant loss. But if your depressed mood lasts longer than two to three weeks and your feelings of anger, sadness, or hopelessness seem to be getting worse, consider getting professional help.
Ask yourself the following questions to determine if you are experiencing depression:
- Do I have little interest in things that would normally bring me pleasure?
- Am I feeling down or depressed most of the time?
- Am I having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep?
- Is my energy level low, leaving me feeling tired?
- Has my appetite changed significantly?
- Do I feel like a failure or guilty for no good reason?
- Am I having trouble concentrating or thinking clearly?
- Am I moving more slowly, or do I feel fidgety?
KNOW THE SIGNS OF ANXIETY
Job loss is intensely stressful. You may be feeling a variety of physical reactions. With stress and anxiety, your fight-or-flight response gets activated—your blood pressure rises, your breathing accelerates, your heart rate increases, and your mind races. If it’s hard to shut off this fight-or-flight response, you may be struggling with anxiety.
You may also find it hard to sleep. Your appetite might change, and you might feel tense or agitated.
Anxiety can result in a panic attack. A panic attack is a surge of overwhelming anxiety and fear. Panic attacks can cause several physical reactions—heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, lightheadedness, trembling, shaking, a feeling of choking, chest pain, fear of losing control, chills or hot flashes, disturbed thoughts, and more. Panic attacks often strike away from home, but they can
Just a little intro post for the new account.
My name is Britany and I'm an Australian based photographer. I also work a casual job at the International Airport and raise 3 young girls as a single mum. This is a new blog (couldn't access/lost my old one). I will try to update it as much as possible but I love everyone.
A little about me.
I adore Taylor Swift, I love chocolate, my favourite animal is a tiger, my favourite colour is sage. My favourite movie is the lion king and I enjoy baking/cooking on occasion.
Recently, due to my employment being at the International Airport and the borders worldwide being shut, I was stood down whilst on maternity leave and I was due to return mid April. My work will be closed for at least 3 months so I'm now lost on what will happen financially for the next 3 months minimum. So if anyone has any ideas (aside from my photography as I have halted all sessions for the safety of not only my clients families but my own) please send them to me! I have bills out my butt and have no idea what to do haha
Anyways I love you all, we will get through this and remember to be kind to those still risking their lives everyday during this time.
“I’m sorry, we just can’t afford to keep you.” My managers gaze was distraught. “We don’t have the money.” In reality I knew it was something different, I had done something out of line, according to them. I tried to help with front end, but my dyscalcia got in the way, as I couldn’t handle the till. So then I tried helping with prep, chopping tomato’s and making dough, but then I messed up the dough and messed up the cake cutting, and spent thirty minutes fixing it. They had to throw away the batch of dough, while the manager was ranting in the background about how I wasted them money. After trying to work out hours for three weeks, not getting paid for that amount, only to be told that they couldn’t keep me, I was fuming. I bought Mac and Cheese, a big bowl, and took it home on the bus ride. Unknown was sitting besides me. “You know you will find another job, it just takes some time and effort. Apply first thing tomorrow morning to ten jobs, then the same thing the next morning. I know you can do this.” I nodded, looking out the window as the outside world flashed by. His words where of comfort, but I still felt down and depressed. Flunked out of college then lost my job in the same month, sent the letter to my ex, fell out of love with my boyfriend, having issues with my mother...it just kept stacking. I seriously wished I could just take a day to be comfortable, to not have to worry about so many pressing issues. Hell, even my friends say I’m going through too much shit! Unknown nudged me, “Remember your Grandmother’s offer?” Oh right, I forgotten all about it. I told my Grandmother my woes, and she had handed me the keys to her house, telling me I could go there anytime I’d like, even when she wasn’t home. It was the perfect vacation I needed, and one I could afford.
“Buy some bath bombs, some soaps, bring it to her house. Just relax, and take a nice long bath.” He smoothly said, rising from his seat as the bus crawled to a stop, as I walked off, he straightened his suit.
We all face multitude of problems every day — physical pain, emotional suffering, financial struggles. We worry, “How will I ever make it?” The truth is, not one of these terrible things has surprised God, including the present crisis. But through the word, the Lord teaches us how to face the problems. “You shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the Lord your God did” (Deuteronomy 7:18). God has not left us to fend for ourselves. He commands us again and again in scripture, “Fear not!” Your heavenly Father sees every bit of your suffering and He makes this wonderful promise to you: ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear.” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

What a 401(k) loan taught me about emergency savings
# When Unemployment Forces a 401(k) Loan: Lessons in Financial Resilience The sudden loss of a steady paycheck can turn even the most disciplined financial plan upside down. In one recent account, a consultant with aggressive billing rates but no immediate cash flow turned to a 401(k) loan to bridge the gap. The experience highlighted how thin emergency buffers, the mechanics of retirement‑account borrowing, and the long‑term cost of tapping retirement savings intersect in a crisis. Recent data shows a 13 % uptick in 401(k) loan activity among workers facing job displacement, underscoring a growing reliance on retirement assets as short‑term stopgaps. ## Key Takeaways - **Liquidity Gap:** A rapid drop in income often forces individuals to borrow against retirement accounts when traditional emergency funds are insufficient. - **Loan Mechanics:** 401(k) loans must be repaid with interest, typically through payroll deductions, and any missed payments are treated as taxable distributions. - **Long‑Term Opportunity Cost:** Removing funds from market exposure can erode compound growth, reducing retirement readiness. - **Rising Trend:** Research indicates a 13 % increase in 401(k) loan utilization among workers who have recently become unemployed. - **Regulatory Constraints:** Loans are limited to the lesser of $50,000 or 50 % of the vested balance, and a default can trigger penalties and early‑withdrawal taxes. - **Emergency‑Savings Gap:** The episode illustrates the critical importance of maintaining a separate, readily accessible emergency fund to avoid compromising retirement assets. - **Psychological Impact:** Borrowing from a retirement account can create added stress, as borrowers balance immediate needs against future security. - **Alternative Options:** Prioritizing short‑term credit lines, community assistance programs, or negotiated payroll advances may be less costly than a 401(k) loan. #401kLoan #EmergencySavings #JobLoss #FinancialResilience #RetirementPlanning #CashFlowCrisis #PersonalFinance #Unemployment #LoanPitfalls #newsababil360 [Read Full Article](https://news.ababil360.com/what-a-401k-loan-taught-me-about-emergency-savings/)
