13th July 1527, birth of Anglo-Welsh Enochian magician, alchemist, occult philosopher and astrologer Dr John Dee, court astronomer and advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. As owner of one of the largest libraries in England at that time, Dee amassed a wealth of knowledge upon alchemy, sorcery, Hermetic philosophy and astrology; and attempting to communicate and summon angels with what he believed to be the universal occult language of Enochian. In 1564, Dee wrote ‘Monas Hieroglyphica’, detailing his view of a cosmic harmony, alongside detailing his use of astrological and alchemical symbols. For these activities Dee was arrested multiple times, but managed to evade prosecution, the first being in 1555, for "calculating", and then treason for his horoscopes of Queen Mary, and her half sister Princess Elizabeth. Later he would serve as Elizabeth’s court astronomer and advisor, advising the creation of a "British Empire", a term coined by him. On the same day in 1579, John Dee’s eldest son physician and alchemist Arthur Dee was born, who served as physician to both Tsar Michael I of Russia and to King Charles I of England. In 1629, Arthur Dee wrote ‘Fasciculus Chemicus’, a collection of writings upon alchemy and its application. The work was translated from Latin into English by Elias Ashmole in 1650, sparking a reemergence of alchemy and esoteric interest. Enochian Table of Practice (Holy Table)

In other words, the Holy Table creates a space wherein man and angel can meet and communicate. The border contains 84 letters and the middle contains the 12 larger letters that fill the center square. The letters themselves form the names of the 7 planetary heptarchic kings and their princes (condensed from 343 letters of a much larger table). Available Variations: 1) The first table variation follows the version supplied by Meric Casaubon in “A True and Faithful Relation" (1659), with contributions made later on by Elias Ashmole who had seen the original table in person before it was later “lost” (c.f., Christopher Whitby’s 1982 dissertation). Here are the Enochian Ensigns of Creation.  They are meant to be either painted onto the Table of Practice (Enochian altar), or engraved into tin.  I have made several copies of some large tin versions for folks, and those are pretty awesome to work with.  I have also made many of these smaller, raised design lost wax cast ones.  These are kind of neat because you can have them made into a pendant and wear the one of them you are currently working with, or just place them all on the altar.

These ensigns are yet another set of magic squares in the Enochian system.  Planetary magic squares to be specific :D.  Each of these Ensigns connects with one of the Heparchical Enochian Kings; this making each of them ruling over a specific day of the week as well as planet.

I have found that the Ensigns work quite well on the altar (Table of Practice), but also place

d around the temple for a strong overall affect.  While they would likely work better laid out in correlation to where each planet currently (during the working) is physically in the sky; I instead tend to arrange them around the temple as they are positioned on the Table of Practice in the diaries, to have overall equally balanced energies of each of the planets.

Obsidian. From The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair. There are many intriguing objects in the collection of the British Museum in London, but one of the most mysterious has to be a thick, dark, and highly polished disk with a small, hooped handle. The Aztecs forged the mirror from obsidian in honor of their god Tezcatlipoca (his name means "smoking mirror"), and it was brought over to the Old World after Cortes's conquest of the region that is now Mexico, in the mid-sixteenth century.~ Obsidian, also known as volcanic glass, is formed when molten lava, erupting from the earth, comes into contact with ice or snow, and cools very quickly. It is very hard, glossy, brittle, and either black or a very dark bronze-green, sometimes with a golden or iridescent sheen caused by layers of tiny gas bubbles that become trapped in the magma as it solidifies. On the label attached to the object's handle he wrote a curious inscription: "The Black Stone into which Dr. Dee used to call his spirits”. Dr. John Dee was Elizabethan England's foremost mathematician, astrologer, and natural philosopher. He was a Cambridge graduate, and the queen's philosopher and adviser; he also spent many years talking to angels about the natural order and the end of the world. These conversations were held using his collection of "shewstones"- of which this mirror may have been one - and through several mediums, most famously Edward Kelley. He died in 1608 or 1609, disgraced and in poverty, after having had to sell off the majority of his possessions, including most of his famous library. His papers, too, were scattered or destroyed. In 1586 an angel, speaking through Kelley, ordered Dee to burn all 28 volumes of his painstaking records of their previous conversations, which was convenient timing seeing as envoys from the papacy were just about to begin questioning the pair about their involvement with witchcraft, a very serious charge indeed.~ If they had discovered his obsidian mirror, it might well have been enough to land Dee on the rack or the pyre. @kassiastclair @secretlivesofcolour #obsidian #dailydrawing #johndee #angels

The layout of the Enochian great table has always been up for debate. What I mean is even the Enochian entities gave Dee and Kelly several different versions of the great table. There are 2 main versions though, the original and the reformed. The Golden Dawn uses the reformed version, but they changed the colours to match their path. The original colours and the original layout of the original great table are shown here in this fun intro video I made one day.

Which version of the Great table do you use? Which colours? If you work the GD system, and/or are initiated into the GD, perhpas their colour layout if the best choice. Personally I prefer the original colours since they are the same colours and layout as was used in several of the older alchemical manuscripts. The best method I feel when deciding which layout to use is to ask the Enochian entities themselves! Also, you can experiment and try the working with each layout and see which feels more correct and stronger to you. I’m curious what others have found with this.
