A/N: OK WHERE TO BEGIN, first sorry if this is a bit long, Joshua is my (admin Jess) bias so I may or may not have gotten carried away, also this is a bit different then the normal au's we do /)~(\ . Hope you enjoy!

you don't know who your soulmate is, but everyday you're always scared

scared that if you accidentally trip because you're kinda klutzy, you might get hurt

and if you get even a scratch, your soulmate will too

you don't even know who they are

but how awful would it be to know that you caused them pain, that it was your fault

it's kind of unavoidable

you'll turn the page in your book and get a paper cut

you fell off your bike when you were younger and scraped your shin

you cried for hours, not because it hurt you, but because you knew somewhere, someone else got hurt too

you'd like to think that whoever they are, they're trying their best to not get hurt too

because then you'd be hurt

and sometimes you'll get a bruise somewhere or a scrape

but instead of being angry with your soulmate, whoever they are, you hoped they were ok

and taking care of themselves, because that's just the kind of person you are

luckily this whole soulmate thing only applied to visible injuries

so you twisting your ankle during gymnastics in 3rd grade wouldn't affect them

that didn't stop you from constantly being worried though

you're starting university now

finally moving out and living on your own

this is supposed to be where the rest of your life starts

you sang in choirs when you were little since you liked music

sometimes you get blisters on your fingers which makes you think your soulmate might play a string instrument

it's nice to know you both share music in common and not just visual injuries

but your parents convinced you to pursue a more practical career than music

which is how you ended up getting accepted with an undeclared major

might as well get all the mandatory classes out of the way before deciding how you want to spend the rest of your life

you work part time in this coffee shop, just a few bus stops away from your apartment

it has decent pay and you adjusted well

you already know how to make everything safely and efficiently so as to not get hurt and free coffee for the late night study session

it doesn't stop your hand from shaking sometimes when you're carrying hot drinks

but you can do it, you can prevent accidents so as to not hurt yourself and your soulmate

thoughts wonder across your mind sometimes

would it be better to know who they were?

so that you could apologize for the various pain you caused them over the years?

but would they want anything to do with someone, someone who they were fated to share pain with?

useless thoughts maybe, but you think about them often

one morning you wake up with a cut on your thumb

you don't remember cutting your thumb though

and you want to scream, it stings like crazy

but sadly you can't use sick hours for a cut on your thumb

you're going to be late to work at this rate

and so of course you forget to put on a band aid

and the day seems to pass pretty normally, at least at first

you're familiar with all the regulars in the coffee shop and converse with them while making their regular orders you have memorized

so when a guy comes in with a mask over his face, you're curious who he is

he orders a coffee and gives his name as Hansol

and when you pass him his order...

"How did you get that cut?" his voice has a mix of things you don't quite understand, it sounds a bit like pity and caution and something else

"What?" you ask, you almost forgot it amidst your usual routines

"I was asking how you got that cut?" he said more urgently, but then he catches himself, "I'm sorry, it just looked painful."

he gives you a stiff bow and leaves hurriedly

you didn't know who Hansol was, but he asked about the cut you got because your soulmate must have cut their thumb, and his hand didn't have a cut from what you saw

so why did he ask?

you hear this story much much later

that day after encountering you in the coffee shop, Vernon had went back to Svt's practice room

"Hyung!" Hansol called for Joshua

Joshua looked up at Vernon

"what's up Vernon?"

"You cut your thumb this morning right? while changing the strings on your guitar?"

"Yea I did... why are you...?" Joshua slowed

for him, this whole soulmate ordeal with the injuries was terrifying

what could he do knowing he had caused someone else to get hurt?

when he cut his thumb this morning, he spent thirty minutes low key panicking, knowing that someone also had the same cut on their thumb

he hated knowing it was his fault

while the other members who had found their soulmate like Vernon and Jun were ecstatic

they often repeated the stories of a fated meeting

but Joshua always felt guilty, like he owed more to his soulmate than he could ever repay

because before even knowing them, he had already hurt them

"hyung youcan't always blame yourself, everyone gets hurt sometimes, accidentally. whoever they are, you've got scratches from your soulmate before right?"

everyone in svt thought that this particular fate was hard, especially since it was Joshua

Joshua cared a lot about everyone and knowing that he might have caused someone pain, everyone knew how difficult it would have been for him

"Hansol, did you see someone with a cut on their thumb today?"

"Yea . . . she's working on the coffee shop around the corner"

it's raining when your shift is over

"aish..." welp next time, you'll remember to bring an umbrella

you start speed walking towards the bus station when-

"Yah!!!" the voice sounds familiar

you turn around and you see Hansol and another boy, both wearing masks and coats run through the rain behind you

now when random a random stranger you met through their order of morning coffee, who had also asked you a strange question, comes running towards you with another person next to him

common sense would tell you to turn around and briskly search for witnesses

stranger. danger.

but you stand there frozen while they slow and then walk up to you

you feel the rain slowly soaking into your clothes, it's really pouring now

it's cold

Hansol comes up to you and tries explaining

"You know how I asked about that cut on your finger earlier..."

you realize you're holding your breath

it's really cold now

"well..." Hansol stops and makes eye contact with the person he came here with

he's a bit taller than Hansol and his hair is auburn brown

whether you had meant to show it or not, you felt yourself shivering

Hansol's friend with the auburn hair takes off his coat and drapes it around your shoulders, his dress shirt immediately beginning to get soaked

he looks at you with a sad little smile on his face as he raises his hand

there's a cut on his thumb

the same cut on your thumb
