It’s just kinda… sad? I guess, not really or whatever but the family who had ties to NOLA initially was the Martin’s and they were all slaughtered and most of the fandom doesnt remember them. They think Greta and think of that girl that wanted to kill Hayley and Hope which again is a consequence of klaus actions but-

So I'm watching Season 2 of TVD and up till now every witch/warlock introduced is coloured/half-African. Is there a reason for this or is it like a necessary prerequisite, to be Black so you can be a witch/warlock?

This is very confusing and also. Quite differentiating. But I haven't decided yet if that's good or bad. Also it's... kind of creepy.
I'd have the Bennett's and Martins be old family friends. Sheila would introduce Bonnie to the Martins so that she'd have able to grow her own witch circle / meet more people like her. Have Bonnie form a friendship with Luka and Greta. Greta eventually going missing and Bonnie and Luka trying to find only for them to later find out she's working with an original to break his curse.

Dr. Jonas Martin was a witch who teamed up with one of the original Vampires, Elijah Mikaelson to kill Klaus who he believed kidnapped his daughter.

Bonnie couldn't help her slight smile as she watched her Grams debating over Elijah's plan. She was pretty easily ignoring Damon who was glaring at her, and Elijah who also looked a level of stormy as he watched the coven.
Especially as Sheila completely dismissed Elijah's version of the spell, "well, with a coven, this could work better, split magic between them, and work without being too much to kill someone." She offered.
"Wait, you were going to Die for this?" Luka asked.
"It was a possibility." Jonas said simply.

"There are five of us, would that work?" Jonas asked Sheila, who looked to Bonnie and Lucy.
"Are we sure we want to include the children?"
"You're not doing this without me." Bonnie said immediately.
"I'm with her, this is for my sister." Luka spoke up quickly.
"I guess a coven should stick together." Sheila said with a slight sigh. Bonnie nodded, Jonas gave a slight smile, "this way, the power we'd need to complete the spell, and the vampire doesn't get his way." She added.
"Ms Bennett-"
"Your opinion I don't care about." Sheila cut Elijah off, "I'm simply helping with this because my grand daughter won't be leaving it alone." She looked towards him for a moment, "and you got those vampires out making more trouble for us all." She reminded him, Damon's glare hardened as Elijah raised an eyebrow.
"I simply did what Elena requested." Elijah told her.
