Full Background:

Born in Manchester, England, Joanne was indoctrinated early into the life of crime. It was the natural turn to make in an environment of frequently absent parents and having to fend for oneself. Once her two older brothers began running with a gang during their teenage years, Joanne didn’t take long to join them. She committed several minor crimes, graduating to armed robbery and burglary when she was older. There was the thrill of the moment that she couldn’t deny loving. Besides, she always advocated for crimes that were low risk for them and others.

Her perspective on a life beyond this only began to take shape when one of her brothers, Deshawn, had a near-fatal gang shootout and left for New York. He cut ties with their family and friends. Unlike the rest, Joanne understood his hope and worry. 3 years passed by with no contact between them. Finally, after losing a close friend, she decided to cut ties as well and left on a plane in the dead of night.

She arrived in New York, hoping to search out Deshawn to help guide her in the world of normalcy. It took her several weeks to track him down. The reunion was tense, but when she was able to show her seriousness, they had a happy 6 months of her crashing in his spare room. She was looking into the citizenship process and had a job with a temp agency. Things were looking bright….until Deshawn was killed by a terrakinetic that had created a sink hole where he worked.

Joanne snapped in grief. When the bodies were being pulled out, the terrakinetic unearthed themselves with minor scratches. She followed them for 4 days, watched them drown their sorrows in the bottle without offering even an apology to the family members like her. She stabbed them to death in an alley, only feeling the thrilling adrenaline surge and sense of purpose return. It was those with abilities. They were only a problem.

Joanne hunted and killed Evo’s for months before meeting Luke. There was something about him that she couldn’t quite place, but he made her feel like a person again. A few more months passed and then they started dating. Luke never told her about his ability, afraid of what she’d think, and Joanne never told him took much about her past. Especially not murdering Evo’s for revenge.

They’ve been together ever since and it wasn’t long before the two got married. Even with the death of so many by the hands of Evo’s and the EHRA, Joanne managed to keep herself in check, feeling content with her life. For now.
