you were almost ready to melt at the thought of the person you admire walking beside you, holding your hand and whispering tender words. but—of course—these are only thoughts, since he doesn’t suspect your feelings for him.

and probably never will….because things might turn out differently.

you wouldn’t want to distance yourself from this person, especially since you see each other every week at the same university. but for some reason he hasn’t shown up to lectures for the third day in a row now.

and it makes you feel uneasy.

he doesn’t answer your calls or messages and his friends know absolutely nothing. you found this whole situation very strange. so now you’re heading to your classmate’s house.

you remembered the road to james’ house but you weren’t sure if he was actually there now.

what if he had family issues and you’d be the only one bothering him unnecessarily.

as you approached james’ house, you quickly glanced into the windows you passed by on the way to his door. they were covered with curtains so you couldn’t understand anything you questioned yourself about : what if no one open the door for you? was there even anyone home at all?

you rang the doorbell once, then a second time, and finally a third….

suddenly the door swung open and you stepped inside. without any questions you were let in. after taking off your shoes you walked further to james’ room on the second floor.

that’s when you noticed something was wrong. the house was empty. and to your surprise james was alone lying on the floor near his bed. he looked incredibly weak and sick, barely able to open the door, and he couldn’t even lift his head.

but somehow he managed to lift his head a little and smiled when he finally saw your face. he was really happy you were there.

you ran over helping him up, and got him onto the bed. he obviously couldn’t move on his own but with your help he’d get through this.

he kept looking at you like you were the only one in this whole world alone with him, a person he could truly rely on right now. honestly, he probably would’ve just kept dealing with being sick until it went away. james is even feeling bad that he didn’t manage to text you to say he wouldn’t be at lectures this week.

he trusted you so much and worried about you. always asking himself stuff like ‘how’s she feeling right now?’ or ‘is she eating well and taking care of herself?

even if it’s just a simple study day, he cares about whether something’s been bothering you lately. and if it has, he’d be more than happy to offer you his shoulder and support you.

that’s how much he needed you at that moment.

“y/n, you have no idea how much it helps just having you here,” he managed to get out, coughing a little.

his cold clearly sucked, and you couldn’t help but feel sorry for how vulnerable he was right now.

“james, don’t move, i’ll get your medicine now. i’m not gonna leave you here alone,” you said, rushing to the kitchen where his medicine was. quickly going through everything and grabbing what he needed the most, even though you were scared, you still felt responsible for helping him to get better.

when you came back into his room, he didn’t take his eyes off of you, holding onto something he truly believed in. when you gave him the medicine, he immediately grabbed your hand.

james just wanted to feel your touch, something that felt more healing than any medicine.

you were surprised but didn’t show it.

you had always imagined moments where james would take your hand, but you never thought it would actually happen right now.

“y/n, you’re beautiful,” he said without taking his gaze off you. when you felt shy and looked down, he found the strength to move closer, gently lifting your chin and saying, “look at me, baby.”

“when you’re here i almost forget i’m even sick. i don’t care about thinking clearly or anything else, what matters is seeing you look at me with those beautiful eyes. that works better than any medicine.”

you felt a little shy because of what he said, but you were certain you wouldn’t leave his side for even a second from now on. it seemed like your feelings had started growing the moment he began speaking.

even if you convinced yourself that falling for him wasn’t possible, you couldn’t hide it.

you leaned closer to him, still sitting on his bed, when james pulled you closer toward him. you ended up leaning over him. you both looked into each other’s eyes saying more than words ever could. he gently tilted your head closer leaving no room for hesitation, everything felt so tender as your lips met, sharing the sweet, warm feeling of the love that had grown between you both during all the time you’d spent together.
